A very complex issue and not clear cut. Generally you can not be a carer to your own wife. As a couple you are naturally each others carer. The wife had a severe stroke, and went on a disability pension. she needed full time attention. The husband was not eligible for age pension or disability pension, he was awarded a carers pension. Without that what happens, she would possibly end up in a home for disability patients, if one exists.
