So single mums and disability pensioners are in the news again

I see the new one nation candidate for WA is stiring the honey pot which will no doubt be faced with its fair share of backlash.

The simple fact is there are good and bad in all, but there are many so called 'single mums' who, despite being in a relationship, claim to be single and living alone, just as there are in fact plenty of so called 'disabillity pensioners' who do drive around the countryside, launch boats, dig yabbies, fish, crab and generally enjoy life, all at the expense of the tax payer.

The fact is, if you can do all this, you can also work.

The other scam is the carers pension. Another grey area that needs to be sorted.

So good on him for bring these topics up because after all, for every scamer out there, hundreds of honest needy people are being tared with the same brush.

The government needs to cut off the Muslim "refugees" who are doing most of the gouging of our welfare. They come here with no intention of working. In their culture, Allah provides all. What better way to hasten the downfall of our economy - and everthing else - by sucking the welfare system, and hence the economy, dry? Single mothers are a problem, but nowhere near the problem caused by bludgers posing as refugees.

Cost cutting should start with the burgeoning public service; immigration of all kinds; foreign aid and big government. At the moment, we have two political leaders, Turnbull and Shorten, who are interested ONLY in being Prime Minister - nothing else. So, nothing will change. These two jerks are blind to everything but their own ambitions and egos.

Yes ttbn i agree, we should have an imediate ban on any potential Muslims, whether they apply legally, or arrive illegally. Enough is enough.

While i admire what Trump has done, i did say at the time that all those with ligit papers should have been allowed to complete their travel, but in any case lets hope our powder puff brigade take some notice.

As for single mums, you can thank Howard for that one with his stupid baby bonus. At best it should have been a childcare bonus for return to work mums.

As for so called disabillity pensioners, many have been scaming the system for decades, along with this lame carers benefit con. Time to cut them off.

A very complex issue and not clear cut. Generally you can not be a carer to your own wife. As a couple you are naturally each others carer. The wife had a severe stroke, and went on a disability pension. she needed full time attention. The husband was not eligible for age pension or disability pension, he was awarded a carers pension. Without that what happens, she would possibly end up in a home for disability patients, if one exists.

Doog, i have no issues with ligit arrangements, however, there are many situations where couples, claiming to be single, are actually collecting welfare while leading a couples life. These are the ones who need to be caught, cut off and fined.

There are also single mothers, lying about living with their partner, while caliming single parent pension despite bing in a defacto relationship. Again, these need to be caught, cut off and fined.

Butch, I actually agree with most of your opening post. Then under the influence of a RRR in the form of ttbn, you fly into unfounded hysteria about Muslims. The facts are different to the nonsense as presented, in 2015/16 Australia's migrant intake was around 190,000 about 6,000 were resettled refugees the majority of that 6,000 Muslim refugees as you would have it, about 75%, are in fact Christians.
Only a few weeks ago I met an Iranian refugee, who has been here a number of years, with his wife and two children, speaks perfect English, and has a very good professional job, and to what would be to your astonishment he is a Christian. Butch you need to get a grip on reality, unfortunately for ttbn he is too far gone to the right to ever be rehabilitated.

I know quite a few of the types you refer to in your opening, and shock horror, they tend almost exclusively to be Australian born, dinky di Aussie dingoes. These guys have turned welfare bludging into an art form, long before you ever heard of Muslims.

A real case, the Disability Support Pension, due to alcoholism, the amount, just under $880/fortnight with supplements. The pension funds 3 boxes of Toohey's a week, 90 cans, plus a bottle of vodka now and then. There seems to be a paradox, needs a pension due to alcoholism, but the pension buys the alcohol, and has done so for 20 years. A miracle. how has this dinky di Aussie lived so long and got away with it. He has got progressively worse over recent years.

The backlash is about an article written in Quadrant way back in March 2015. Here is some of it,

"DAVID ARCHIBALD

Lifestyle Choices? Here’s a Few More

Why focus only on the cost of supporting Aboriginal communities in godforsaken locations when so many other Australians have their impractical and expensive preferences richly subsidised. Be they single mums or "disabled" Islamist firebrands, should the much-taxed rest of us pay for them?

We spent $30.3 billion on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the 2013 financial year, more than what is currently spent on defence. How did we get to this sorry pass? Aboriginal tribes wandered around the continent for millennia. Occasionally they were joined by others. For example, there was in influx of boat people from southern India 4,230 years ago that has contributed about 10% of the modern Aboriginal gene pool in northern Australia. After European settlement, missionaries went out into the desert to save souls. They handed out free flour, so Aboriginal groups came out of the desert because that beat having to search for dinner.

Then Gough Whitlam became prime minister and he resented the role of the churches in running Aboriginal missions. So he nationalised them. What had been done very cheaply is now accomplished at great expense, compounded by a romantic notion of Aboriginals living on the land. So the descendants of Whitlam have pushed Aboriginal settlements as far out into the desert as they can.
..

Now comes federally funded childcare. This is a lifestyle choice. Looking after children is very labour-intensive. We evolved that way, with a prolonged childhood, to allow for synapse refinement in our big, energy-consuming brains. Some mothers elect to look after their children themselves, or do so because distance from a job makes work impractical. Mothers who do work are, in effect, cross-subsidising those who also leave their children to the care of strangers. If society wishes to encourage childbearing, it should reward that with tax rebates to the childbearing pair and leave it at that.

That is a few for starters. There are plenty more."https://quadrant.org.au/opinion/qed/2015/03/lifestyle-choices-heres/

Paul, few would disagree that while every Muslim is not a terrorist, pretty much every terrorist is a Muslim. So for me, the risk of allowing just ONE potential terrorist in is one too many.

It is not our religion, it is there's and if they choose a non Muslim country to resettle into, then they should have to forgo their religion, it truley is that simple.

As for you disabillity guy, there is another simple answer, STOP PAYING THEM CASH.

So long as they are given cash that can be wasted, many will waste it.

"while every Muslim is not a terrorist, pretty much every terrorist is a Muslim. So for me, the risk of allowing just ONE potential terrorist in is one too many."

Butch, at fist glance that may seem reasonable, but the fact is the vast majority, more than 99% are not terrorists. Taking that attitude you unfairly target one group, and risk alienating even more from that group. Because you see Muslims as different to you, then you do not see yourself as a possible target for discrimination. The reality in the world today is Muslims themselves are the biggest target by far for terrorists, who also happen to be Muslim. I am in no way a support or apologists for the Islamic religion, it makes no sense to me what so ever, but it does not seem to be the root cause of terrorism, more an excuse to mask the real reasons people act as they do. If they did not have the commonality of the Islamic faith to hide behind, they would find something else to justify their cause.

One of the worse acts of terrorism in the Western world was the attack by the Norwegian Anders Breivik, which left 77 dead. Do you suggest we also target Norwegians. Sexual abuse of children by clergy in our society seems mostly confined to Catholic clergy, should we single out Catholic clergy for special attention, after all every priest and brother is a potential pedophile.

What about the Muslims who are already in Australia? Do you want them to walk around with a distinguishing crescent symbol sown onto their clothing? The Nazi's had Jews wear the Star of David to distinguish them from the general population, and it was very effective. Fortunately you are not like them. It is not crazed radials that allow society to degenerate into a perverted totalitarian state, it is the ordinary people who will stand ideally by and allow it to happen.

Hi Butch, your suggestion that 'Centrelink' payment for some be broken down into two components, one; a debit card which can only be used to purchase non alcoholic products and services has merit, the second payment should be to a bank account with free access as per normal. This system should not be universal, for example people who have no such problems with drugs and alcohol, like many old age pensioners and others, should not be subjected to that system. Nor do I see it necessary to limit tobacco products, although I am anti smoking myself.

In no way should it be used as a big stick to belt the disadvantaged.

Below ia info on the government trial being conducted at the moment.

https://www.dss.gov.au/families-and-children/programmes-services/welfare-conditionality/cashless-debit-card-trial-overview

Unofficially, a system has operated in the community where some who cannot manage money, through a lack of mental capacity to do so, have rent paid and other bills, leaving them $100/fortnight spending money which they can draw on.

Butch you are happy with individual rules. Now the cost of that would be another social security bill on its own. The rules say a husband or wife cannot be carer for the other. The mentality of your beloved govt; is the rules are the rules without exception.
It is ok for them to get around in lear jets, because it is entitlement. But to bend a rule it takes court cases, and most in need cannot do that.
You are just having one of your grimy whinges again.

Dear paul1405,

'Age of Anger', seems like it would be a good read;

"Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and World Trade Center bomber Ramzi Yousef became friends in the late 1990s, when the men were held in nearby cells at the federal supermax prison, outside Florence, Colo. After McVeigh was executed in 2001, Yousef said he’d never known “anyone in my life who has so similar a personality to my own as his.”"

Lego, our governments collectively, go from stuff up to stuff up only to be rewarded with a 'set for life' pension, it is truely bizar to say the least.

In the past decade or so we have seen doozies like the 'baby bonus', first home owners grant, the war we should never have become involved in, the insulation debarcle and the illegals debacle to name just a few, deplete our finacial resources beyond repair.

A for the indiginous waste fest, that is a joke beyond words.

I liken our governments to someone wanting to build a nice house. They engage the best draftsman, the best designers, then because of their lack of knoledge, and sheer arrogance, employ a useless builder that stuffs the project to the point where they have spent so much money, yet ended up with so little. My point being that all the best laid plans are worthless if you are incapable of implimenting and managing them.

This is pretty much the story of our lives and now, those who have contributed all their lives are being forced to fend for themselves simply because issues like illegals take precidence of their own position. It sucks!

Funny how everyone being equal and an individual goes out the window when money is
involved.

If everyone is an individual, then everyone should be entitled to centrelink payments
if they can show proof that they are actively looking for a job.

Suddenly you belong to a couple and are not entitled to your own independence moneywise as an individual.

I had an uncle in his 50s who lived with his elderly father. They were both entitled
to the single pension each.

But if you are married suddenly you are no longer an individual entitled to anything.

Also for every single mother, there is a single father. Not contributing nearly enough
in time or money to support their children. The mothers just about take on the whole
burden of raising and paying for the children themselves, while the husbands
are off with their new younger girlfriend who resents one dime being spent on the ex's children.

These single fathers are busy having kids to the new younger wife when they are not
even doing anything much, monetarily or in caring for the kids they already have.
They are conviently never available on their mobiles.

CHERFUL, surely seems like you are speaking from experience.

Firstly, the governments looks at singles differently because as a couple many of the expenses are shared, therefore the pension amount is less. So what many do is claim to be single, yet live in a relationship , although the likes of social media are catching up with some.

As for fathers abandoning their children, this is often caused through the mother wasting much of the funds he is paying, while others are just grubs. The baby bonus has a lot to do with causing this as well.

There are currently over 700,000 people unemployed in Australia and there are 181,000 job vacancies; do the math and single mums and disability pensioners who may be rorting the system pale into insignificance.

Is Mise, what also must be of concern to the dollar and cent brigade is the 2,400,000 old fogey Australians (National Commission of Audit) receiving an 'Aged Pension', and at a substantially higher rate than those layabouts on 'Newstart'. With the old folks living longer than ever, I roll my eyes on that one, medical science has a lot to answer for in that regard. These aged relics have no prospect of ever working, and yet still they are lapping it up with a life of luxury, well compared to the dole'ise that is! What is to be done?

Shock horror, what I have discovered is there's an epidemic of wastefulness among the geriatrics! What could it be you ask? BINGOISM that is what it is, make no mistake! Yes, unfortunately so many of the elderly are sadly, BINGOHOLICS, addicted to the high life of the game of BINGO. Some of the most seriously addicted are not content with such wastefulness on a Monday, by are doing the rounds of the BINGO DENS, five and six days a week. Some have even been known to partake in this disgusting addiction on the Lords day itself, do they have no shame?

Who is propagating and prospering from this insidious disease, its none other that those friendly old farts at your local RSL. Yes sad but true, our living war relics, fellas who served in the Peninsular Campaign, and the Napoleonic Wars, men who should know better. These guys are not simply contented to gouge the merge pittance of a payment from the dole'ies through the pokes, they are pocketing most of the old age pension payments, around $40,000,000 annually, in return they payout in trashy toasters, waffle irons and cheese boards at nothing else than the call of BINGO! If you are very quiet, around 10am this morning, outside any RSL in town or country, you will hear the unmistakable sounds of the taxpayers dosh being gobbled up, with the shrill call of: Number eleven!... legs eleven! followed by BINGO!

I have not mentioned the problems of the "Weekly Meat Raffle".

Paul, while I too hate the amount that is wasted by pensioners, anyone who has in any war involving our nation deserves looking after in my view.

As for pensions, if I had my way those who have done well in their lives would be rewarded with a hefty pension, while the underachievers would get anti starvation money only. The system is arse about face.

Ismis, you cant keep changing the goal posts and make it more difficult to employ people, then expect business to invest and create jobs.

For every action there is a reaction, and the reaction here is loss of business confidence resulting in less jobs. But some of us get it, while others don't and never will because all they think of is wages and conditions and think little about where wages come from. Profits

Flatmates who share the rent, electricity etc are granted two single incomes.

I see no difference between flatmates living together and two individuals in a love
relationship living together. The costs are the same.

Yes I do have experience. My daughter has 4children, she worked full time, the whole time they were babies.
Even going back to work a couple of weeks after the birth
for a couple of them. Her husband never pulled his weight with providing money or looking after the children.
He only did as much as what it suited him to do.
He still has low paying jobs never taking up the option of becoming a teacher which
he has a university degree in.
He now has 4 children to his new partner. He's pushed to provide a roof over their heads so my daughter has just given up and does the lt herself with very little assistance from him.

I hear stories like that from women all the time. Or theres the other story where the man has a younger version in the wings and his wife was totally unaware until he left her with the kids.

He. has most of his weekends free and never answers his mobile phone if this lady needs him to take the kids.
Theres a whole lot of men out there flying incognito under the single father banner because they are free of the kids hanging off their shirt tail 24hours a day, so they cant be pointed out and badmouthed like single mothers are.
A lot of single mothers are single mothers because men dont pull their weight
with chlldraising.. The government has even had to run adds on Tv encouraging men
to act like fathers to their children.
The government wouldnt run adds like that if they hadnt picked up on the problem.

Well theyve talked about the looming crisis in aging demographics for nearly 30years
I know that because of the age I was when it became a talked about topic, by governments and superannuation funds.

All that time, billions of dollars, which represented a fair percentage of the now retired
pensioners taxes was handed out to 3rd world countries.
Now those 3rd world countries are still in poverty and with all that money dont seem to
be able to build pipelines to provide their people with clean drinkng water. still.

Now this, "save the world generation" is bitching about the money they dont have to look.after their aging parents and grandparents.
Well, you gave it all away in foreign aid, didnt you. Didnt put any in the kitty for a rainy day or a demographic time bomb, you knew was tickng. So suck it up.
