Dear Shadow Minister,
How to deal with asylum seekers will remain a complex issue no matter who wins the election. Just to jog a few memories here's a link that sums up its past history: http://www.refugeecouncil.org.au/r/spn/131002-SPN-bg.pdf Posted by Foxy, Monday, 20 June 2016 12:11:13 PM

Foxy - A link from August 13, 2012 is not very relevant now as in most countries the population are against what the so called leaders of that country are doing about the growing numbers of so called refugees.
Your second link 404 - "Page not found" Too many economic refugees, and totally ungrateful people who for example in Germany demanded money not food. There are lots of real refugees but sorting the trash from the treasure is a virtually impossible task. Posted by Philip S, Monday, 20 June 2016 1:23:38 PM

As Fox says,

Dear Philip,
Of course there will always be people who will abuse the system. But in this discussion the 30,000 or so referred to by the Courier Mail were already assessed as being genuine refugees. What Mr Shorten is proposing regarding these particular refugees is apparently old news - and therefore the Courier Mail is not representing the truth. John Howard had already promised then a path towards permanent residency. Then many changes occurred in government. Things got delayed and more hard line policies were put in place. If this was not an election year - this matter would not have arisen. But it is an election year - and finger- pointing is a game that's being played. The "Page not found," link was due to a typo. It was rectified - you may want to read it as well as the other link I cited. The point that I am trying to make is that this being an election year both leaders of the two major parties will milk the "fear card" for all its worth. Pointing out the "faults" of their opponents be it regarding asylum seekers, unions, medicare, health, education, tax cuts for the big end of town and anything else they can resurrect. The challenge for voters is to look beyond the spin (including from the newspapers that support them) and decide which party they think will be good for their families, and the nation. And what kind of society they want Australia to be. I personally am still trying to decide who to vote for. With that in mind I shall be watching Mr Turnbull on "Q and A" tonight. I trust it may help me make up my mind. Posted by Foxy, Monday, 20 June 2016 1:44:25 PM

Paul,
We all know that you are unhappy with any newspaper that does not submit its articles for approval by the labor/green ministry of truth as does the SMH and ABC. As for your niece, has she been able to decide her gender by herself without the help from the labor/green ministry of love? Foxy, The rolling disaster of the asylum seeker crisis was caused by the idiot Rudd dismantling the Pacific solution in spite of promising before the election not to, the most significant cock ups were the dismantling of off shore processing, the removal of TPVs, and the refusal to turn back boats. Now in spite of Shorten claiming to maintain the coalition's successful policies already he is promising to eliminate the TPVs, stop boat turnbacks, and has a near majority of labor MPs wanting to stop off shore processing. Essentially we can expect the same chaos as under Juliar. Posted by Shadow Minister, Monday, 20 June 2016 2:29:59 PM
