Have both major parties got it wrong with their bi-partisan immigration and their agreement not to discuss immigration.

Recently A Current Affair did a story based on Angry Anderson's bid for a Senate seat. They did a survey after the story asking if viewers agreed or not with his views about stopping Muslim immigration and 95% agreed with Angry's views. Apparently 7000 people responded.

Does this tell us two things? 1. That people think that immigration is an important issue for election discussion and. 2. That people overwhelmingly think that muslim immigration should be stopped.

Are the major parties wrong to not debate immigration and what of their moratorium on discussion. Is Bob Hawke's brokered agreement out dated?

Interested in views of OLO posters.

Yes Banjo, it is the elephant in the corner of the political room.
The only person I know who believes all moslems are loverly is my
daughter in law school teacher in Melbourne.
That says it all.

I have yet to meet someone who is in favour of Islamic immigration.
I think France and Belgium are giving us a warning that we are being
stupid to ignore. From something I read recently the French government
is now considering it to be a matter of sovereignty.
What their PM said was they have to re-establish French sovereighty ln
French cities.

It has been suggested that 40% of these immigrants are illiterate in their own language.

Our welfare system is the problem as these people have come to realize that Australia will pay you for every child you have and, should you choose not to work, not only will they still pay you, but they will also provide free medical and medicines for as many children you choose to have.

Why on earth would anyone not want to come to Australia.

The reality is that the time is fast approaching where every person unemployed will be treated like scabs simply because our system has been so soft on the offenders for decades. And that's just not fair.

THE ONLY people who should be invited here are those with something to offer and given we are heading south, ALL immigration should be put on hold immediately until we turn the ship around, and that im afraid could take years if not decades, but so be it because that is the result of our soft approach to immigration and welfare

Of course the major parties have got it wrong on immigration, both looking for an increase of 200,000 per year, plus 'refugees'. Immigration should cease altogether. Muslim immigration should never have been; neither should the immigration of people of backward, tribal people from warring countries ever happened. The results of allowing these people into our midst has been ignored by Australian politicians. They are ignoring it now, during an election campaign! That's how stupid they think we are! Immigration is a major issue, and if politicians do not see that, we should not be voting for any of them.

//Immigration is a major issue, and if politicians do not see that, we should not be voting for any of them.//

I encourage every person who is opposed to immigration to follow ttbn's example and vote informal in both houses. This will send an unequivocal message to the politicians that they are out of touch with their electorates and that they need to take a good hard look at themselves.

Maybe the politicians just don't listen to the 'majority' of voters on any major issues?

They don't listen to the vast majority of people in our community who would allow laws for gay marriage or euthanasia either, so why is everyone surprised they won't listen to voters concerned about Islamic immigrants?
