It's known that about 300 Indonesian words are used in north Australia from visits by Macassan fishermen. There seem to be many examples of these words in SE Australia.

Ah Nick, your thread is about entymology. Given that, your premise may hold water for the Aboriginal language, but English is a West Germanic language that originated from Anglo-Frisian dialects so the Yanks don't come into it.

Dear all,

After reading the above I am now absolutely convinced that all you people on the Forum who have only had a vocational education (at the best!) actually wish you had been archaeologists, anthropologists, historians, or sociologists. I sympathise with your position because those are the things I really wanted to pursue ever since I was a child, instead of being something ordinary like an engineer, lawyer, architect, etc.

Either that or you only want to be a member of the LNP coalition government so that you can get your hands on one of those free fake $40K Rolexes.
