Hasbeen,
"I can only assume they want to add to the bulldust that cyclones are getting stronger due to the paused global warming. I really would love to know what is in it for them...." You've got an uncanny knack lately for coining the right thread title - this one "Telling lies again" is most appropriate for one of the stars of climate change denial movement, Willie Soon, who's been sprung nicely according to this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/22/us/ties-to-corporate-cash-for-climate-change-researcher-Wei-Hock-Soon.html?smid=tw-share&_r=1 "For years, politicians wanting to block legislation on climate change have bolstered their arguments by pointing to the work of a handful of scientists who claim that greenhouse gases pose little risk to humanity. One of the names they invoke most often is Wei-Hock Soon, known as Willie, a scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics who claims that variations in the sun’s energy can largely explain recent global warming. He has often appeared on conservative news programs, testified before Congress and in state capitals, and starred at conferences of people who deny the risks of global warming. But newly released documents show the extent to which Dr. Soon’s work has been tied to funding he received from corporate interests. He has accepted more than $1.2 million in money from the fossil-fuel industry over the last decade while failing to disclose that conflict of interest in most of his scientific papers. At least 11 papers he has published since 2008 omitted such a disclosure, and in at least eight of those cases, he appears to have violated ethical guidelines of the journals that published his work. The documents show that Dr. Soon, in correspondence with his corporate funders, described many of his scientific papers as “deliverables” that he completed in exchange for their money. He used the same term to describe testimony he prepared for Congress." Posted by Poirot, Sunday, 22 February 2015 8:58:22 PM

Just what the hell Poirot, does your post have to do with the weather bureau telling straight out lies about the strength of this cyclone.
The details are showing up all over the place, & many have recorded the actual wind strengths, before they disappear from the official sites. Do wake up a little lady, do you want to be a sucker all your life. Posted by Hasbeen, Sunday, 22 February 2015 11:18:57 PM

Hasbeen,
Well, little man, I merely reacted to your latest attempt to paint climate scientists as frauds. Just pointed out a little dodgy goings on the denialist camp - to even things up a bit. Cheers.... Posted by Poirot, Sunday, 22 February 2015 11:35:53 PM

Hasbeen, I doubt all these 'friends' of yours have the sophisticated weather equipment that the BOM have in their arsenal.
I really don't care what all your old mates think constitutes what category of cyclone has hit Queensland, I would sooner listen to the experts....including the far more numerous scientists who study climate change. Sure, the BOM gets their predictions wrong on occasions, but still are well worth listening to. I can just hear you and your mates ranting and raving if the bureau called it a category 2 cyclone, and it roared through your towns as a category 4 instead. You guys are never happy! Abbott is talking up terrorism and Hasbeen is talking down a cyclone. They would make a good pair.

When it passed over Middle Percy, 70 miles off MacKay, the BOM were reporting it as a Cat 5. Middle Percy island belonging to a mate, he registered one gust of 198 Km/h, & 1079 Mb, making it a low middle cat 3. This was confirmed by the readings from Pine Island light, 3 miles off Percy, which registered similar readings.
From the damage at Yeppoon this thing was under cat 2 when it passed there, & the BOM were still claiming cat4 at that time.
Just how stupid do these people think we are. Surely they realise many people have the capacity to record these things today. They must just not care that many know they are lying in their teeth with this rubbish. Another friend in Yeppoon registered one gust of 156Km/H, with constant readings of 60/70 Km/H.
I can only assume they want to add to the bulldust that cyclones are getting stronger due to the paused global warming. I really would love to know what is in it for them, spreading false information every time there is another cyclone.
