I just love people know nothing about a subject, but spout the party line. It tells us their posts are nothing to do with considered or researched opinion, just regurgitation of the dogma.

Anyone who has run boats in the cyclone prone Whitsundays would be dead if they depended on the BOM.

It must be nice to go through life with this extreme faith in authority, & academics. I can only assume you have no experience in putting their pontifications to the test.

In the instance where I have real knowledge of a subject I have found the boffins not only wanting in their knowledge & understanding, but so insular that they are not interested in learning from real experience.

While the BOM's forecasts are well representative of what is now expected of government agencies in the politically correct Nanny State that is Australia, they spell slow death for tourist operators.

International visitors plan long and the negative consequences of over-the-top forecasts and the inevitable tabloid media commentary that sensationalises any destruction no matter how minor DO have a lasting negative effect on international tourism.

The other problem of PC Nanny State hysteria is that locals, having experienced well-meaning but nonetheless apparent Chicken Little forecasts in the past, they might not prepare when the real one comes along.
