It is modern day Oz, Hasbeen and what you are objecting to quite rightly is the Nanny State.

Once the BOM used to be conservative in its warnings so as not to cause alarm, which is not something any responsible organisation would want to do. However the highly dependent, frightened public, made so by the incessant alarmism on all manner of things by people who should know better and a tabloid media out for sensationalism, would be in a pink fit if there was (say) some rattling of the windows during a thunderstorm despite the fact that any weather event can have localised effects.

To top it off, I am sure the BOM also has to consider the possible weather damage effects on poorly constructed and under-maintained buildings.

So out of the range of possibilities the BOM is forced to upgrade its warnings to the highest of the possibilities to protect itself from the complaints of the serially upset and hysterical who can no longer think for themselves.

Don't be silly Poirot, there have been others pointing out that the
BOMs rating of the cyclone does not match weather station recordings.

By the way re Willy Soon, I have not heard of but your accusation
that he faked his findings because of his funding source has become
the badge of the intellectuality corrupt.

To use that as a proof has become b^)*(y pathetic.

otb,

".... However the highly dependent, frightened public, made so by the incessant alarmism on all manner of things by people who should know better and a tabloid media out for sensationalism..."

I can't wait to hear what you have to to say about Abbott and his performance today on national security - since he's ticking just about every box in your quote above...for political mileage.

Somehow, I don't imagine you'll be singing from the same song sheet on that one.

Bazz,

"To use that as a proof has become b^)*(y pathetic."

Come now, we all know of the mighty connection between Exxon, Koch Brothers, etc and "skeptics".

Nice to hear of a bit of concrete evidence regarding Soon.

As for proof - denier scientists are forever being shot down in flames by the vast majority of other climate scientists - this kind of revelation merely confirms what we already know.

Bazz,

What's so funny?

It's well accepted that deniers regularly wheel out a handful of scientists to back up their guff. Some of them actually have qualifications in the relevant disciplines - although most denier experts have qualifications in areas outside the expertise required to comment on climate with any real authority.

When we strike one like Soon and we find "evidence" that he's being remunerated handsomely for "deliverables"...well....
