rehctub,

Blame it on the whingers and the litigious.

A fellow boatie who wore his overalls to the shops recently was accosted by a woman who demanded to be 'informed'(!) if some broken vinyl floor tiles in building rubble in a skip were 'asbestos'. Taken aback, he asked why and of course she was just one of the many serial nuisances out to make a bit of trouble for a tradie that day. The sort of person who would have a fit and ring 'someone' about your mower.

On the other hand consider the contractor who mows near us. With his hearing protection and highly mobile, noisy machinery he is always 'in the zone'. Of course there are many stupid pedestrians do not give him a wide berth. Some even try to walk past him while he is circling objects.

The Nanny State is 'necessary' because people can't take care of themselves because they are used to living in a Nanny State. Welcome to modern Oz: 98% urbanites and many couldn't survive a fortnight without Centrelink, Coles and their government minders.

You're right OTB, but what does registering a ride in mower have to do with public safety, because to be a contractor these days, one already has to have public liability insurance, which is also there to protect the idiots you speak of. The problem is, you can't legislate against stupidity, so we all pay.

My main point of this thread, is why do we need rego for a ride on, but not a push bike?

Because after all, a push bike is a means of transport and, it is allowed on most roads, in all states. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I'd like to know if anyone can actually put some light on this as there appears to be a huge lack of consistency in these laws.

Is it just revenue raising perhaps!

I thought the law was the norm. Maybe it's a case of not knowing the law. Anything over so many cc's have to have permits to enter public property. Small fish,

Well, until there's some sign of improvement don't know how to do it Campbell is not receiving any support from me anymore. I gave all I had to help get rid of the morons but not to be replaced by what we have now. I say get your butt into gear Clive.

Hey rehctub, is this some new law, or one we've had for years, that sensible coppers just ignore? Individual same thing, are you sure this is down to the new government, it's probably years old. Perhaps we need a regulations bonfire up here to compliment Abbotts efforts there.

If it starts to be enforced the councils are going to need a workforce of millions to mow all the verges & footpaths, [what are they, I can't remember seeing one of them around here] or suburbia will really become an urban jungle. well it would if it ever rains again.

Hasbeen,
Yes, you do have a point there. In my outfit we have the decision makers who are still vehemment ALP & they are not changing their destructive & divisive ways. My gripes is why doesn't can do get rid of them ? I have spoken with many blue collar lads who had workmates put off yet the ALP cronies bureaucrats are still there stuffing it all up. I say do your job Campbell or move over.
