How can those who offend not understand that Child will grow up and one day look in to their eyes.
How can those organizations [now the YMCA] tell them selves hiding such a life destroying crime is an action they should even think off.
Yes time and again we revisit this and other subjects but as the Royal Commission and other inquiry's remind us daily we should have held this conversation long ago.
In matters of sex we and some Churches seem lost.

first, of course the RC church's sex offences are awful, but it wasn't only sex abuse, and it wasn't just the RCs either. I know you care, so have a look into the treatment of the children shipped here from WW2. State and ors treatment of State wards too.

One under God, yes, child sexual abuse is awful and criminal, no matter who the perpetrators are.

I think the Catholic Church is brought up so often because their paedophile priests and brothers and lay people were based, and offended at, all over the world. So the offending against kids was on a much bigger scale than other organisations.

However, the main reason that the so-called holy catholic church is mentioned so often is the fact that they have always put themselves out there as being pillars of society, the word of god, the fight against evil, protectors of the downtrodden etc etc.

So the fact they have done these atrocities, and have, and still do, try to to hide and protect the paedophiles in their midst is doubly disgusting...

Once a real life victim posted here, and his words told a story, his written words told of just one of his on going troubled life.
We have had many threads and few who do not mirror my feelings.

And too hiding the offense and offenders continues.
YMCA openly told us, it both had no policy,s in place to protect kids and nothing was done about it when offense,s did take place.
Looking back at past revelations I have a clear memory of staff at an orphanage saying openly they gave a boy toa police officer ever weekend he asked!
No effort to protect those kids has emerged.
There is the basic awfulness of the crime, some will never tell what they know about ministers and police.
And we call our selfs human.
The victim has a life ruined and some times some of us refuse to believe their cry for help.

I suspect that Pell has lied to the commission about not being told anything about the wide spread abuse going on in their UnHoly places, but that he maintains in his own mind that it is acceptable as they were matters discussed in the "confessional cone of silence" so to speak.

Labor has done well with implementing the Royal Commission
to investigate this issue. Hopefully it will be allowed to
continue to do so and that good results will come out of
it all. As I've written in the past - no one can deny
that sexual abuse of children is horrendous and intolerable
and that the failure of the church to deal with it
effectively has done immeasurable damage to victims. The cover-
ups, the protection of abusive clergy and the refusal to admit
egregious mistakes are unjustifiable. In the past we've
seen abusive priests moved from parish to parish, thus
giving them access to new victims - hopefully with the Royal
Commission laws will be enacted to dis-allow this from
happening again.

I would like to add that the issue of "Gay marriage," is a
different issue altogether. Some posters seem to confuse
homosexuality with that of pedophilia.

There is a big difference between homosexuality and
pedophilia. Homosexuality involves two consenting
adults. No one is hurt.
