Radiation level in water at reactor 2 tested 10 million times above normal today.

Apparently that alarming report was inaccurate.

Tokyo Electric now says that the spike is mere 100,000 times normal level for reactor coolant - not 10 million times.

Oh well, that's all right then....

Poirot,We will not know for years the truth. Our media are down playing it.Alex Jones says 10 million times.Who knows. They say the reactor cores have not melted down. They are getting low radiation readings in the USA.

I do not see any attempts to bury the reactors in concrete like they did at Chernobyl. There is no news on the strategies being used to stop it other than cooling via water.

This radiation will disperse around the planet raising our background radiation levels to new highs for thousands of years. What will be the long term health results?

*What will be the long term health results?*

There you go Arjay, my long term prediction is on track. Humans
are smart enough to invent new and interesting things, not smart
enough to use them wisely. Eventually the planet will spin with
little but cockroaches and ants on board. Mammals will have been
a blimp in the planet's history. That evolving of a bit larger
brain in one of those species, was not sustainable after all.

Arjay,

My take on it is that they purposely released the 10 Million figure....it makes the correction of 100,000 times normal sound so much more positive.

If you don't mind me saying so, Yabby, I agree with your prognosis.

Now back to Fukushima...

and the latest is that water has been detected in an external tunnel connected to reactor 2. This water is in the range of 100,000 times normal reactor coolant radioactivity - so the same as the water detected inside the reactor.

This tunnel contains electrical cables and goes around 76 metres towards the ocean, although it does not go to the ocean. Nevertheless, there is a danger of seepage if more of this stuff gets out - and, surprise, surprise - officials have no idea how the puddle eventuated in the tunnel.

Of course, the word "puddle" is also open to interpretation - there was no mention just what constitutes a puddle in this situation.
