"THE last federal election to produce a hung parliament was in 1940. On that occasion, the incumbent government limped on but the prime minister faced growing party dissent. The opposition, previously in disarray, looked increasingly like a credible alternative government. Eighteen months later, after a parliamentary vote of no confidence, the independents changed sides and the new government won a landslide at the next election, held at the normal time."

History repeating itself?

We will know in 18 months SM.
While it may happen can you say another election held then or today will put you in charge with any certainty.
Seems you are like a kid waiting for Santa he will come but your gift may well be a bitter one.

I go back to what I said before. Labor will no doubt make a meal of the next three years as they would not be game to call a DD election.

So, we simply wait another three years, take back the riens and start to plug the much larger hole left be another term from these incompitent fools.

Remember, the three indp are in no mans land now.

If labor fails, they are doomed.

My bet is they would be S## bricks about now as they need only look back at labors past records, then look forward to what they think they can achieve,'within budget' over the next three.

As the saying goes. Give them enough rope and they will hang themselves.

Happy days ahead.

Isn't it refreshing to have such positive
clairvoyants predicting our country's
future.

I suppose you can live and hope, which is
all very well, but it does seem to overlook
the inconvenient fact that the Opposition in
its entirety failed in their campaign to
persuade voters, or those pesky independents,
that Labors NBN vision was a multibillion-dollar
mistake.

Tony Abbott has likened politics to a game of
snakes and ladders, but so far has made very
few moves on his board, sending off only
one shadow cabinet minister to free up space
for Malcolm Turnbull. The other 18 clung on,
including those Howard-era stalwarts
Bronwyn Bishop, Kevin Andrews and Ian Macfarlane.

Abbott, is still (and some obvious OLO posters),
not persuaded that the campaign
is over and has been talking up the promise
that his line-up gives a safe (some might say calcified)
pair of hands, ready, willing and able to seize the
baton as soon as the independents realise the error
of their ways. Funny though, neither Rob Oakeshott
nor Tony Windsor have given Abbott any encouragement
in this idea.

However as I 've stated previously,
it seems that at least a few of our posters
believe everything that Abbott says. Take the tax on
carbon as an example. When the world's largest
mining company calls for a tax on carbon, it gets
attention. BHP Billiton chief executive
Marius Kloppers took the front pages when he urged
the government to act on climate change without
waiting for other countries to go first, and to look
beyond coal for the future.

For the Coalition of course,
a carbon price is still a great big tax on everything!

But what can we expect from a political party whose
Motto is: "Omnia Deducenda." (Latin for "Everything
Should be Deductible!").

No one can say with any certainty how long a government will last. That is doubly so for this one. This one could be very good or collapse quickly. There is no crystal ball that predicts how a re-run of the election would go. Mr. Abbott appears to have changed track. He is now talking about the independents changing alliance from Labor to him. His poll figures must be telling him that a new election is not to his advantage. The problem for Mr. Abbott is that they do not trust him
