"Can someone help... I log in and look up and down about 15 displayed messages trying to work out which ones have new posts based on the times they were left.
I am guessing there is an easier way to do this? Something I can click on so that I just get the New posts?"
There is an easier way, Jewely. Just click on the words 'Last post' at the top of the right-hand-most column on either the Articles index page or the General Discussion index page. All topics will then be re-displayed in the order of recency of the last posts made to them.
All of the index page column headings are clickable 'buttons', although this is not necessarily obvious to anyone new to the Forum. Clicking the heading 'Posts' re-orders the index page from the topic having had the greatest number of posts made to it at the top, and in descending order from there.
These display preferences do not stick: after a period of inactivity on your part of I think around two hours, any index display refresh will default to listing of topics in order of publication date, until you again click, for example, 'Last post'.
There is a saying amongst web page designers that "if it ain't obvious, it ain't obvious". Even on fora run by geeks for geeks, highly experienced web designers frequently fail to make features obvious or self-explanatory. This is why I say forums need page pages (and an obvious 'page page' button) to facilitate use.
It also pays to enter the 'display topics one quarter back' display option to reveal recent posts on topics that may be more than one month old. 'Sexting it up', in the Articles index, is a topical example.
