Not seen the stats, but I'm sure you're right about the relative travel distances and if the time on the road were taken into account, I suspect the difference would be even more stark. There is a long history of dodgy statistics being used to justify ever-more draconian laws. I'm sure there is also a sexist component to it. Those producing the figures are well aware that such a statistic would be jumped on and beaten up wildly by an avowedly feminist and activist Premier.
I seem to recall some statistics that show the proportion of accidents involving people under the influence of illicit drugs is far lower than the proportion of people found to have drugs in their system whilst driving, which suggests that illicit drugs are not a high risk factor for accidents. I haven't heard any suggestion that drug testing should therefore be curtailed. I suspect it won't be long before there is a directive issued to target "high risk groups", which will no doubt include all males under 60...
