Learning about the change of European & American societies it begs the question if Australia should hold a referendum before the next federal Election to once & for all stipulate what kind of Nation Australia is desired to be & take steps now to achieve this !
There are a couple of serious contenders at play now to gradually end its course from a Christianity-based so-so Democracy-based society to a literal Dictatorship-Autocracy ! One group is openly flaunting their obvious support for this whilst the other is quietly & rather effectively working behind the scene by subtle (rumoured foreign State sponsored) infiltration of Public service & business & IT. Either way, neither group will yield to the other when the numbers are large enough & due to the blasé mentality of many, Australians will find themselves being the meat in the sandwich.
Sticking the head in the sand & expecting pleasant surprises has never provided positive outcomes !

There should have been a referendum years ago. Had we as voters reminded the political class that they are supposed to be serving us, not us serving them, Australia would not be the elected dictatorship it is today. You don't get or retain democracy just by voting for the same sorts of people every three years. You have to keep at them all the time. It beggars belief that the ALP aka the Australian Liars Party is still in power. Well, OK, it's amazing that the voters gave them the power again after the slow but sure decline in their first term.

But, indyvidual, which party you think could be a contender for government is the Christian based one. The only Christian-based party I know of is Family First, and they got less than 2% of the vote in the last election.

The only party that claims to be interested in the demographic, with already almost one third of it born overseas, and mass immigration still climbing despite the lying, is non-religious One Nation.

While the polls have One Nation ahead of the rest, there's still 2 years of Socialist horror to get through. And, the ON member for Farrer has gone off the tracks with his two-flags-in-my-office nonsense; he has been connected to other parties, and reportedly attempted to get Labor pre-selection in the past. Dear old Barnaby came up with the idea of whipping non-citizens houses from them, then said it was not going to happen, and there is a history of people getting into upper house seats, state and federal, on the ON ticket then deciding to go independent.

I don't think there is much hope for this benighted country. It's shot to s..t.

Indyvidual,

Not much happening mate.

The main problem with pretty much everything wrong with Australia is the Albanese Socialist government. It has to go.

The only way it will go is if the Right side of politics gets together. So far, they don't seem keen on that. The Liberals are still treating One Nation like a leper - as if they think they will get back on their own.

The Nationals seem to be ahead of the Liberals on the need to rid Australia of crushing Socialism. They, the Liberals and One Nation should be cooperating to oust the Albanese regime.

I noticed today the Nationals saying that Albanese should have the guts to take his most unpopular ever budget to an election now, after all of his lies about what he wouldn't do before the horrors of it were revealed.

As if! He'll hang on for the next two years like s..t to a rug.

Hi Indy,

"(referendum) stipulate what kind of Nation Australia is desired to be & take steps now to achieve this !" You want something new inserted into the Australian Constitution, is that what YOU want? Then what is the question that YOU think Australians should be asked?

The rantings of ttbn about "Socialist horror" is not what the vast majority of Australians think. These far right nut jobs want Australia to become a one party totalitarian state, dominated by the politics of hate and divisions, with total state control.

On the very first issues raised with a One Nation leader, Barnaby Joyce, that being the issue of home ownership, he displayed the parties true colours, the politics of hate, demanding the forced sale of the homes of all non-citizens, even those who have lived here for all of their lives as permanent residents. To me it demonstrates a kinship with Nazi fascism, where Jews were force by the state to sell their property to "Aryan" Germans. Is this what we want for Australia?

Appalling Paul,

You recently advised that I take against anyone with an opinion other than mine; now I'm a ranter because you don't like my opinions.

You are not the slightest bit interested in what indyvidual has to say: you just want to have a go at a “right nut job”.

You probably think that ‘projecting’ means showing your holiday slides on a sheet or screen.

But, projecting also means “the cognitive act of imposing one’s own thoughts, emotions, or values onto external objects, behaviors, or other people”.

And that's what you do, sunshine, with your own desire to see a “one party totalitarian state, dominated by the politics of hate and divisions, with total state control”.

That describes your Socialism to a tee. You are talking about yourself and your Green Labor/Communist mates.

You (no need for upper case) don't have a clue what “the vast majority of Australians think”; particularly after the extreme Socialist budget, brought down by the lying Socialists. Neither do I. But I'm smart enough to know that I don't.

You lack the education (you project that, too) and understanding necessary to be taken seriously. Barnaby Joyce's faux pas had nothing to do with “the politics of hate”. It was just his own, not unusual for him, bombast.

Joyce is like you: he thinks being bombastic impresses people. You could be seen as the Barnaby Joyce of the Greens.

Your remark about Jews being forced to sell their homes overlooks the fact that the vast majority of Jews were German citizens; Australia's permanent residents are not Australian citizens, and a significant proportion of Australians do object to them owning property in a country they take advantage of while spurning citizenship of it. ON doesn't hold that view; I don't know if the Coalition does, and the Albanese Socialist government protects them. So they have nothing to worry about. I don't think anyone actually uses the “politics of hate” against” them, but ‘hate’ is just one more thing you project onto others.

Hi Indy,
I support your idea but I think not a referendum (one question) but a national survey. (Multiple questions)
If we can do a census every few years with multiple questions I'm sure we can do this;
But it should've been done decades back, we may get some results we don't like...
It could be that you have to be in the country for a decade to take part?
You could still have the newcomers opinions as well I guess.
