Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke has “overruled his department” and aborted a consultation process involving the ability of workers to carry their leave entitlements from employer to employer. (Closer to the coming election).

He OVERRULED HIS DEPARTMENT. Is that further proof that the idea for rubbish legislation is coming from unelected, lurking-in-the-background bureaucrats, and not politicians? That circus is being ring-mastered by “faceless” men and women and not our elected politicians?

The Minerals Council of Australia claims that federal environment bureaucrats are already assessing mining projects in line with Albanese's secretive “Nature Positive” principles even though those principles are not yet law.

Plibersek denies it; but it is only the very naive who believe politicians in 2024. And, and there is no evidence that she and other ministers know what their departments are up to all the time or,indeed, at any particular time.

Who are the un-elected faceless men of the Minerals Council, representing 0.001% of the population. A pressure group of vested interests. The bureaucracy performs a necessary function to facilitate good government. They don't get it right all the time, just like our elected representatives.

ttbn, I'm not sure what the point is here, its an important and necessary function of the PS to advise the minister, who can't be expected to be across all aspects of various proposals presented. Then there is the mechanics of drafting complex legislation, another function of the PS.

They are not “faceless men”; they can be identified with a quick Google search

The Minerals Council, like any business entity, does not “represent” anyone but itself. It does supply jobs, revenue and taxes to help 27 million Australians enjoy their standard of living, make profits for shareholders: things that the real faceless bureaucrats seem intent on destroying under a gutless Left-wing government.

Public servants are just that - servants. I used to be one. Public servants are beholden to us through our elected representatives. They are, or should be, controlled by those elected representatives; they do their bidding, investigate, and advise. They don’t make policy.
