“The Coalition has no enduring principles anyway so it needs to put away pretence and get down to brass tacks; that is, if it wants to win the next election. Energy is the key.” (Economist Peter Smith).

Smith's advice to Dutton is to get stuck into Bowen, whom he describes as “a gift that will keep on giving.  Abandon Net Zero.  Abandon subsidies for wind and solar, electric cars and charging stations. Promote gas power stations. Forget the Teal seats and go for the regional and suburban communities where there is “plenty of commonsense”.

Village idiot,

This is a rolled gold promise by Labor, having broken every other promise so far one would have thought that they would try to keep one.

Admittedly it's not wise politically when promises by
political parties are broken. The immediate reactions
are usually severe criticisms by the opposition and their
supporters.

In the case of these tax cuts - the changes were approved
unanimously by the Labor caucus.

"The consensus was this was morally the best things to do,"
said a Labor MP.

The Prime Minister said he was making "the right decision for
for the right reasons," because conditions had changed and
many households needed more help with the cost of living.

The cost of living as we know usually impacts low and
middle income earners.

Since 2019 there's been many impacts. We've had a pandemic,
a recession, global inflation, and 2 wars.

Economists however support these changes. The Coalition
attacks the broken promise. Cassandra Winzar,
Chief Economist for the ?Committee for Economic Development
in Australia said:

"It does make sense to not give quite as big a cut to that
top tax bracket as was previously going to be the case."

The Prime Minister said he was not in government to
"occupy the space " but to make a difference to individuals
and the nation.

"The job is to respond (as things change), to seek advice, and
to make a difference. Make the right decision - not an easy
decision."

Only time will tell whether the voters agree that the right
decision has been made.

The GST saved Australia’s Bacon. The unintended consequence is that the parasitic Left gained more from it than most !

Fester,

I don't understand your objections. I tried to present
a balanced viewpoint.

I gave quotes -
and I did also say that only time will tell - that it
will be up to the voters to decide if the government
made the right decision.

Why are you so anti anything
to do with the current government? After all the topic
of this discussion is the government's stage 3 tax cuts.

Thank you for the back handed compliment that I'm
"more interesting." Does that mean that if I would agree
with the Coalition's criticisms - you'd find me even
" much more interesting," perhaps "inspirational?"

I did say in my opening sentence that any political party
that doesn't keep it's promises will receive criticisms.
But you and I both know that circumstances do change
and all political parties have to adapt to those
circumstances.

Anyhoo - Just letting you know that I am a writer - and
anything you say may be used in a story.
