How much are the tax reductions giving to low-income earners? Only enough to buy two loaves of bread and a chicken roast each week. Does nothing to support rising rents, or mortgages. On $60,000 - about $100 month, on $150,000 - about $310 a month.
What he should have done was leave stage 3 in place and given extra tax relief to the low-income earners, especially those below $150,000.

"If you want to stay poor, live under constant surveillance in restricted cities, submit to being governed by social credit scores and Digital ID’s, by all means keep voting for the same toxic political class that have ruined every ‘free’ society’ in the Western World.

But do not complain when you get exactly what you voted for…"

"I think a discussion on what "Negative Gearing" is might be helpful from different perspectives."

There's quite a lot of things that are negatively geared, not just rental housing. Essentially, the tax system says that interest paid is a valid expense that can be offset against other income eg rents, share dividends, profits or wages. We would have a very different economy if interest wasn't considered a legitimate business expense. Most of our resource sector is funded by borrowings and the costs of those borrowings(the interest) is offset against the revenue. Equally most farms run interest incurring debt during at least some part of their seasonal cycle and that is also deductible.

Its not as easy as just saying let's get rid of it.... the economic ramifications are enormous.

What we really have is a bunch of people who don't fully understand how it works but who believe that someone is getting a benefit not available to them and therefore want it stopped. The politics of envy where ending the deductibility of interest would have dire consequences for many who don't own a rental property.

Some here appear to think that the term “Public Housing” infers free housing. It doesn’t. Public Housing should be first of all to house people living in this Nation & paying Tax during their first years of working life with families. In other words, give them a decent start. As I stated before, the rent could be a quarter of their income which would give them a fair living standard at no-one’s cost. For the less fortunate suffering disability State run accommodation should be provided again at affordable rent instead of being at the mercy of greed-saturated investor landlords. Also, as I have stated many times before, young single unemployed would be housed & fed by a National Service scheme, cheaper & far more effective to build a better society. Council too should be made to cooperate by providing basic accommodation i.e. Dongas or prefabs etc so any National Service participants allocated to Councils. The opportunities are there for anyone if only we keep Leftist do-gooders & negative gearing greed merchants at bay.
