Bezza,
I wouldn't know what Antonio Guterres was campaigning for 30 years ago, you seem to think you do, all good and well. As for being a "fool" I doubt that, the man is head of the UN, but then those of the hard right believe the UN is some Commie plot, hell bent on destroying the good matured Capitalism of the West, I'm not so sure about that either. Yes lets apply the good old tried and tested, nothing to see here nonsense, when we don't don't want to believe what before our eyes. Those fires, nothing more than a stray box of matches, and as for floods, a burst water pipe somewhere. Now who is the fool? Posted by Paul1405, Monday, 31 July 2023 5:21:33 AM

"mhaze on another thread was quick to claim Aboriginal people were clubbing each other to death in massive inter tribal wars on 30 July 12023BC, but when evidence is presented that doesn't fit his far right extreme narrative he yells "CONSPIRACY"!"
Neither of those things are true. You can always tell when Paul realises he's out of his depth...he releases the inner 5 yr old. As to "massive inter tribal wars" Paul himself offered proof of that when he showed us the reports from Moreton Bay. Posted by mhaze, Monday, 31 July 2023 9:09:07 AM

Talking about the CSIRO:
In case we dismiss intervention in science as a thing of the past we need to be aware that on issues which require solutions that are likely to harm vested economic and political interests censorship very much exists today. For example, in Australia in 2006, leading climatologists with the country's pre-eminent public research organisation, CSIRO were forbidden by the organisation's management from publicly discussing the implications of climate change. Management was acting on behalf of government. And Australia is one of the standout countries in terms of human development status. It is not corrupt, its science is world class. None of this matters. In 2006, the Australian Government's position was to cast doubt on global warming and refuse to enter into UN agreements such as the Kyoto Protocol. With the release of the Stern Report on climate change the Australian Government's position had changed - yet the PM remained half-hearted about a commitment to counter global warming. Little has changed for some people when ignorance and vested interests are confronted by scientific facts. New ideas, instead of being welcomed for the opportunities they open up for the improvement of the human lot are considered as threats by those who are comfortable in their ideologies. "In regards to the CSIRO and The Washington Post- I trust neither as I suspect they have become corrupted...."
Yep, not just them but large parts of the media and the science fraternity. The Washington Post has been shown to have acted without the slightest regard for the truth in issues like Covid, the so-called vaccines, the Steele dossier and the Kavanaugh witch-hunt. The CSIRO was of course outed as regards temperature manipulation through the Rutherglen database debacle. We now know that the science community outright lied about the vaccines, the original of the WuFlu and the effects of lockdowns. Now we have the famed science magazine Lancet outed for fudging data to try to hide the fact that warmer temperatures result in less deaths than cold temperatures. This has been known for decades but still the climate fraternity try to portray the opposite in deference to the climate gods. http://co2coalition.org/2023/07/26/the-lancets-graphical-deception-too-common/ Posted by mhaze, Monday, 31 July 2023 1:48:19 PM

The Washington Post ranks in the top five news
brands. Many will remember its coverage of the Watergate scandals in the 1970s led by reporter Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward. And of course its recent coverages of the Trump fiascos. As for CSIRO? Public good research has been the absolute foundation of what the CSIRO has been doing over its long history. Of course it needs money to continue its work and to attract top scientists and students. Unfortunately, certain governments in the past with their severe cuts to funding, especially on climate-based research CSIRO's reputation as being world class is beginning to suffer. Hopefully, this will be rectified by new governments and will once again be able to attract top scientists and students. Cuts to climate research - then what else follows? So sad really. The CSIRO seems to have become very woke and detached from the local Australian people that it was originally constructed for- just like the universities. It was once perhaps a great organisation.
