Lidia would love the spotlight of being a noisy headline seeking missile as an Independent Senator until 2028.
Here are some main milestones in Lidia's anti-Voice career:
May 2017 - Among a small group of delegates who walk out of the Uluru national convention.
June 2021 - Accused of verbally abusing Indigenous elder Aunty Geraldine Atkinson during a meeting in Parliament House.
May 2022 - Elected to the Federal Senate representing herself and, to an extent, Victoria.
August 2022 - At her swearing-in to federal parliament she has to repeat her oath after initially referring to the “colonising” Queen.
September 2022 - Lidia calls the Voice to Parliament Referendum a “WASTE OF MONEY”, saying the funds could be better spent in Indigenous communities.
January 25, 2023 - Clears the way for a split with her Greens colleagues on the Voice in a formal deal in the party room that gives her free rein to vote against the proposal while others give it their support.
January 26, 2023 - Among speakers who denounce the Voice proposal and [INSTEAD] demand a treaty to give First Nations people more power at Invasion Day marches.
“We are sovereign and this is our land. And we deserve better than an advisory body,” she tells the Melbourne march.
February 4, 2023 - Thorpe demanded that none of her fellow Greens MPs, including another Indigenous senator, meet with Indigenous community members about the Voice, insisting only she was allowed to do so.
February 6, 2023 - Splits from the Greens after a long-running dispute over the Voice to parliament referendum and will move to the crossbench.
