I have to agree with you on that, snogget. It really does look like the Aussies are becoming just a annoyed with her, her movies, and her pathetic public displays, in just the few years she's tried to re-establish herself as the "aussie queen" bringing along the dead weight as a suposedly "aussie king". I wouldnt be surpised that by the time this bloated and overwraught Australia movie comes out, they will had enough of her manufacured personal trauma, and not be interested in her manufactured celluloid trauma. She truly is overdoing the angst.

Thanks Snoggett. That was great. At least there appears to be one Aussie journalist out there who is not mesmerised by La Kidman. The beige cardie etc. she wore to court was a vast contrast to the recent mag. cover photo of her leaning towards the camera pulling out her false boobs

Well so heres an early review of golden compass...pretty much what was expected.... doubtful if it'll be Lord of the rings, for sure, and no doubt a poor mans Narnia...
The Golden Compass Review Samson Dangerfield Christopher, aged ten, will never forgive me for two things: a) his birth certificate, and b) the sheer disappointment he felt after watching the first leg of Chris Weitz’s cinematic adaptation of Philip Pullman’s trilogy, "His Dark Materials". I can understand his grievance concerning a). But I’m not sure why I should take the blame for Weitz’s spectacular shambles. The books weave a magic that the film simply cannot match. rest of review: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/film_reviews/article2956068.ece Posted by MACLEN, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 6:42:37 AM

Thanks maclean for this link. Interesting the comments 'John, London' makes.
I am actually interested in this film because I like fantasy but I won't rush out and see it on the big screen unless I hear more positive reviews, this could be one for a raining Sunday afternoon at home using the DVD player. Posted by WAKINGS, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 9:25:30 AM

Yes, wakings, it just premiered in London, and random reviews are trickling out... no consensus yet. Well, as for Margot, it came out a couple of weeks ago... with so so reviews, limited release, it will fade of course now with focus on Compass.... and with it losing the few noms at the indie Gotham awards, I proclaim its over. As for Golden Compass, with its 180 mill price tag, it will have to do at least as well as Narnia to be considered a success... and Narnia grossed $291,710,957 in the US, and $744,783,957 worldwide. And i dont seriously see that much appeal for compass, whereas Lord of the Rings had an immense generational appeal as the three novels were written 50 years ago, and Harry Potter is a recent phenomenon that equals Tolkien in appeal. Chronicles of Narnia also had that generational appeal as they were written over 50 yrs ago as well, and The Golden Compass was written in 1995. Id say that's a pretty pale comparison in time to build a meaningful fanbase. I would be willing to bet that compass will be more in step with something like Bridge to Terabithia, which came out earlier this year, and was also very "Narniaesque" and grossed only $82,272,442 in the US and $133,279,576 world wide. Just because it has alot of expensive CGI sequences doesnt nessasarily mean it will be huge, i mean, look at the recent Beowulf...

Yes my gut instinct tells me it won't do as well as the movies you have mentioned. I think her star status is slowly fading and she is desperately trying to cling onto it. Her whole identity is based on her public image IMHO. She has two adopted children she could focus on more but it is quite evident her career is more important.
