Deaths at sea: from the Titan to the Mediterranean : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 27/6/2023

Mortality at sea is becoming a theme of late. The nature of how that mortality has been represented, however, has varied.

Any country has the right to repel invaders, & should do so with what ever force is required to achieve that objective.

The death of a passenger on an overcrowded boat smuggling refugees is arguably more tragic than the death of a millionaire in an imploding submersible trying to reach the wreck of the Titanic, but it is less newsworthy.

NO ONE should undertake a dangerous activity, unless there is a strong reason to do so.
It doesn't matter whether it is going to the moon, climbing everest, exploring deep caves, or anything else.
Doing something dangerous for 'a lark', or to have just another 'experience' to brag about, is stupid.
I know our youthful instincts can lead us astray, but we must curb their excesses, and drive them in a fruitful direction instead.
Those men should not have undertaken a deep see dive unless there was a compelling reason for it.
And a rubiks cube certainly is not a good reason.
I am saddened that a young man lost his life.
The older ones just should have known better.
But I think the young man was influenced by his father at the very least.
He doesn't exist any more, so it is pointless to conjecture now.
Except perhaps to learn a lesson from the lack of foresight and good reason that was shown.
And by the way: it was 4000 metres not feet?
But I am sure they did lose their footing.

Ditto Canem Malum, ttbn & Alan B.
Why is it always that other people get portrayed as heartless but not once the Govts who make their citizens take the risks to leave their homelands ?
I recently saw videos from a country at war where people frequented night clubs & bars as if nothing happened ??
Yet, some reports question countries' not giving enough or not what is being asked for ?
Forgive my ignorance but it all is starting to look like some evil game to me that exploits goode will ! I see parallels here !

Good call on the repelling invaders Hasbeen. "Any country has the right to repel invaders, & should do so with what ever force is required to achieve that objective." Kudos.
