Well, the Senate found Trump not guilty - all that time, money and angst for nothing - and he could be back in four years time. He has survived two idiotic impeachments, and will be able to have another go if he chooses to. Why he would bother with that bunch of crooked ingrates I don't know. But he is the Superman of global politics.

Banjo, I am certainly not writing Biden off. I expect he will do better than Trump.

Now Hilary Clinton is at risk of being impeached over her time as secretary of state, according to some bigwig, after what was done to Trump despite his being out of office, too.
What a bunch of idiots over politics the Yanks are. Posted by ttbn, Monday, 15 February 2021 11:02:22 AM

The Republican senators voted for an acquittal because the party wants to win at the next presidential election in fours years.
And I think they will be forced to run with Trump otherwise he will run independently probably attracting a majority of Republican voters with the outcome that the Democrats' candidate will romp home. So it looks like the Republicans are going to be stuck with Trump as their candidate. Hopefully the Democrats will win again otherwise I think we will see Trump strutting around as if he is a Hitler or Mussolini. Posted by Mr Opinion, Monday, 15 February 2021 11:36:31 AM

Trump may well end up doing a Biden. Get elected, run one term, then hand over to one of his kids !
Just you wait when Kamala Harris steps in before long. She'll inherit a big mess & then just implode ! Posted by individual, Monday, 15 February 2021 11:46:07 AM

Ttbn,
The Senate found Trumpf guilty by 57 to 43 votes - not enough in a tilted system that required 67 votes. So only 57 % of the Senate believe the turd was guilty of incitement, leading to public damage, deaths and probably a spate of future criminal cases. After all, if you were Mike Pence, would you be so Christian as to let the mongrel off after his calling for your lynching ? Possibly. Perhaps the Washington DC Mayor and her police department could find herself tempted to bring serious charges against Trumpf. Then there's the state of Georgia and Trumpf's attempts to force the governor to create 12,000-odd fraudulent votes. Then there's Michigan, where Trumpf incited hick mobs to attack the Capitol Buildings and lynch the governor. What a worthless waste of space. In the process, he may have destroyed the Republican Party which can't decide whether to run with power or principle. That's usually a recipe for party oblivion. Agree with most of this Chris except the loudhailer (poke a stick into the hornet's nest) diplomacy of the former President.
I should like to visit China as a medical tourist? To avail myself ASAP of the availability of the miracle cancer cure, the alpha particle, bismuth 213. Given China seems to be, the only place on earth with several operational MS thorium reactors? Which then produce bismuth 213 as a virtually free byproduct! However, even if I could afford now that I have been robbed by treacherous betrayal, [evil personified,] of my (years to accrue) nest egg travel money! Even then, should I embark on such a, for me, perilous journey? Would wonder if I'd ever get back, now after the Trump's entirely unhelpful, grandstanding megaphone diplomacy! Alan B. I smile. Chris makes no attempt to hide his bias, fear and thin grasp of history. Through his constellation of fears, he fails to draw conclusions at all.
Historically, the West was captured in the first wave of Chinese economic expansion, by its own greed and disregard of the human rights of its own citizens; however the academic Chris would naturally omit this critical starting point. The anti Chinese rhetoric spewing forth from our abysmal political class in Australia right now, is as credible as a bottle shop at the front door of a mosque. The gutless response we expect from that breed of rats, still remains thinly veiled. Any attempt to confront Chinese expansion at this late stage, is designed by them to save themselves, and move the bottle shop to a safer and more exploitive location. We add to this division of truth and lies, the continued line taken by politicians and academics such as Chris, that the Chinese are actually divided into the good ones and the bad ones. But as we know, the we that cling permanently to the bottom rungs of the ladder, Chinese are Chinese, there are no good ones! And just as the Chinese perfected the economics principle of the Heckscher-Ohlin Model, by the exploitation of its substantial peasant class as cheap labour in exchange for precious foreign investment, so too did the West advantage itself from the double-dip of the same exploitative system, only to be caught in the web of its own greed. It’s galling to witness the results of dispossession of an ever growing class at home, dispossessed by the exact same method of economics the Chinese exploited, maintaining their grip on power with authoritarian Communist rulers. Greed of the West, created the precedent where trade was opened up to Communists, against whom they waged an undeclared war over fifty years. It’s the exploiters of this unprecedented event who should pay the price, but as with the Communists, so with the West, they accuse themselves by increasingly turning their opposition into official terrorists, for their own safety and convenience. ttbn. For mine a 57 for to 43 against is a guilty vote! As is the irrefutable body of evidence. Methinks a secret ballot would have resulted in a conviction. Albeit, with a lot of (you turncoats) pointing fingers?
A few holdouts in the, neo-Nazi, opps, republican party used their minority numbers to acquit Mr Trump! Acquittal by minority, conflicted, frightened cronies, is not a proven, not guilty verdict, as you and a few others claim! The primaries these spineless, integrity free Senators are afraid of, won the day? Remember their names and how they voted as a minority cabal! Make sure they are not returned in the secondaries! The Dems have got around two years to plan and strategize for an even bigger voter turn out, to remove these ideology-free, integrity-free, halfwit holdouts Alan B.! Chris Lewis: Banjo, I am certainly not writing Biden off. I expect he will do better than Trump.
Just imagine Biden negotiating in person with Xi Jinping or Putin. Poor old Joe is lost without the assistance of a teleprompter. Sadly, he gets confused even when he follows one. Posted by Raycom, Monday, 15 February 2021 1:08:45 PM

"Banjo, I am certainly not writing Biden off. I expect he will do better than Trump". Chris.
Really Chris, did you have a look at the executive orders he has signed in the first few days. Just the free immigration policy will turn the USA into something very unlike the USA we mostly know & love. Every migrant from one of the sh1t heap countries makes the US a little closer to a sh1t heap than before, just as it has done in Oz. 4 years of Biden & co may be enough for the US to never be great again, just as the "Great" is long gone from Britain. Hasbeen,
I am merely focusing on the response to China, but I would think that Biden will do better than Trump on many issues. Diver Dan, no there are plenty of good Chinese, just like there are some ....head Australians. Good and bad, stupid and silly, exist in all societies. My grasp of history may be poor, albeit I did pretty good at such subjects at university, but your failure to recognise virtue in western aims is also ignorant and flawed. Hi Has Been,
That nom-de-plume has an appropriate fifties ring to it :) No wonder: "Every migrant from one of the sh1t heap countries makes the US a little closer to a sh!t heap than before, just as it has done in Oz." In Oz ? Really ? In what way has immigration turned Australia into a sh!t-heap country like the US ? I was in hospital over-night last week, and was enormously impressed with the medical and nursing staff: incredibly busy people, Welsh, English, Filipino, Vietnamese; one incredibly beautiful Scottish nurse, Afro-Caribbean I think, I wished I could have been sicker, but only on her shifts. Seasonal fruit growers are crying out for Pacific labourers while local bludgers watch day-time TV. So where are the dreadful shortcomings of immigration ? What, nobody calls you 'bwana' any more ? Come out of your cave, Has Been ! It's a fascinating new world ! But you'll be up against very stiff competition :) Ah, is that the problem ? Really Joe. You like the criminal street gangs of African or Islander appearance mugging, breaking & entering & pinching cars daily. Some are even doing it while on bail. They have been killing a few innocent recently with stolen cars.
Admitted we do have some aboriginal gangs fighting these others for control of the streets in some suburbs, but we have far too many whities running scared, or bleeding all over the problem. Try stopping for a cup of coffee in San Souci some time. I did a the threatening waves of hate drove us off very quickly. A nice place before the ethnic clensing. If you aren't seeing it you must live an isolated life in a lucky area. I do too, but the garbage of Brisbane is flowing out to engulf us. Posted by Hasbeen, Monday, 15 February 2021 10:13:44 PM

Chris - this is my "second" attempt at response to your article.
"While Trump's economic response was driven by an understanding that the US is finding it increasingly harder to maintain large trade deficits, a reality only maintained by a reliance upon much greater debt to fuel international economic activity, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has exploited the situation to increase China's wealth and influence around the world through its growing economic prowess and substantial military spending." Response - Trump's negotiating with China was a "first" for American trade agreements, in order to bring back "parity" within said Agreements. So now with Biden at the helm - who we all know will "bend" to China - we shall see. Biden as a problem with family ties to China - will he be impeached? Chris - so what do I see as an Aussie viewing Trump in power - let's put aside his posture.
1. Prior to election he said he would "build a wall" - he did....and it continued. Why did he want to "build a wall" it was to ensure any person/s seeking refuge within USA had "legal" credentials to do so. This included childhood slavery and/or abuse. They were held on the Mexican Border for "verification" of details, to ensure any/all parties were legitimate parties for entry. We now have Biden - no funds for completing wall. And now "open borders", for entry into U.S.A. Seriously - and he is stated as saying we will "unite" U.S.A. So totally disgusting to any person seeking the welfare and care of children. According to the 2020 Scanlon “Mapping Social Cohesion Survey” : « In 2020, there was also significant increase in agreement with the proposition that in the local area ‘people from different national or ethnic groups get on well together,’ 84% in 2020, compared with 76% in 2018 and 78% in 2019. Concern over becoming a victim of crime in the local area was significantly lower in 2020 than in the previous two years. In 2020, 26% indicated that they were worried about becoming a victim of crime, compared with 34% in both 2018 and 2019. There was a substantial increase in the proportion indicating that they were ‘not very worried’ or ‘not at all worried’ about becoming a victim of crime, 74% in 2020 compared with 66% in the previous two years. Just 16% agreed with the proposition that ‘living in your local area is becoming ... worse,’ compared with 22% in 2018 and 20% in 2019. A large majority, 70%, indicated that it was unchanged. As noted, there is concern based on historical evidence that in a time of crisis people will look for scapegoats and discriminate against those who they identify as outsiders. There can also be increased demand for government to adopt policies preferencing to their own citizens, including protectionist policies to safeguard local industries, irrespective of the global impact of such policies. With regard to openness to the world, as indicated by trade policies, the survey asked: ‘Thinking about the growing economic ties between Australia and other countries, sometimes referred to as globalisation, do you think this is very good, fairly good, fairly bad or very bad for Australia?’ A substantial majority, 72%, considered that it was ‘very good’ or ‘fairly good,’ only marginally lower than 76% in 2018 and 75% in 2019 ». Here is the report : http://scanloninstitute.org.au/sites/default/files/2021-02/SC2020%20Report%20Final.pdf . Posted by Banjo Paterson, Tuesday, 16 February 2021 2:41:04 AM

Hasbeen,
Can I get you to sign up to my petition to get the Commonwealth to let China transmigrate 50 million of its people to Australia. They're an invasive species and sure to get rid of all the criminals you mention above. Just don't let them near any casino board meetings sitting to discuss money laundering before midnight otherwise they all turn into crime lords. Hi Banjo
Re the 2020 Scanlon “Mapping Social Cohesion Survey” :" 1. This report was obviously produced before the disgusting violence and destruction we all saw over many cities throughout 2020 within USA whilst all Aussies being in lock down. Stats can change - maybe Scanlon should do a Re-Mapping of Social Cohesion Survey. The destruction to businesses including "mum and dad" businesses who put their livelihoods into their businesses - destroyed via looting, hoons. Where was their protection against the mob?
