Inequality : Comments

By David Leyonhjelm, published 10/1/2019

Echoing the rhetoric of Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn, Bill Shorten recently claimed in a speech that rising inequality was the single biggest threat to Australia's social cohesion and the economy.

For starters Electricity Bill is talking Bollocks. The GINI index of inequality has remained constant for roughly 3 decades.

That the liberalizing of the economy started by Keating and continued by Howard delivered the greatest increase in living standards of the bottom 25% over 2 decades ever recorded in Aus seems to be ignored by the economic ignoramuses in Labor.

Winding back these reforms may reduce the "inequality" but make everyone substantially less well off.

David: You don't normally come across as El Stupido. But Equality has nothing whatsoever to do with how much hair you or I retain or the size of the penis etc.

The sort of equality all the speakers you referred to was economic equality and opportunity. And ensuring an equal start that just doesn't leave our best and brightest, left to clean toilets and drive cabs etc.

That country kids are not similarly disadvantaged by economic conditions applicable only to them when they attend uni.

Equality is simply about fair and equal treatment as a civilized universal goal!

The same universal civilized goal and humanity that tried, without complete success, to outlaw child labour and slavery.

With numerous examples now emerging and marked by the sheer calloused indifference of folk of the far right, who like all their similarly dispositioned forerunners, lack the normal human empathy to know that these and quite deliberately contrived inequality! Is just plain wrong!

And if you would understand just how wrong, suggest you read, Schindler's list?

Not that that would change anything about you or your, I believe, current narcissistic fundamentally flawed (me, me) personality.

For evil to prosper, good men only need do nothing!

Of coarse, equality is one of those mantras much beloved of the left. Its one of those things that doesn't have to be explained or defended because, like motherhood, who can be opposed to equality.

And let's all pretend to not notice that the drive to equality always ends in tears. Ultimately it leads to everyone, or almost everyone, being equally disadvantaged.

How long did it take for the constitution of Manor Farm to change from "All animals are equal" to "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."?

T'was always thus.

The Green/Labor sort of 'equality' that we are threatened with next year is the sort that has everyone equally stuffed and dependent on the Commissars, who will be a good deal more equal than the rest of us. 'Equality' has been turned into a dirty word, and outstandingly smart people who could save us are going under the bulldozer in the socialists' mania for levelling.

Oh, and the really horrifying thing about Australia's future is that people who are actually Liberal party supporters (at least they think are) are saying that the party has to become more like Labor to retain government. Lunacy abounds in Australia.

Thank you for n ailing an other lie David.
It is a very old tactic used by quacks for centuries. Discover a non- existent disease and sell a cure for it.
It is similar to the non- refunding of excess franking credits.
If there is too much tax benefit received by self funded retirees why not just tax all pensions but give a rebate ( used to be 15% but 30% would be more reasonable) for pensions from complying Super Funds ?

Only one reason militates against this simple answer. It does not fund the unions.

Shorten expects people to move into union dominated funds as small private Funds will lose franking credits and bank operated funds have been shown by the Royal Commission to stink.

That means union dominated funds will get huge clout from expected capital inflow, enabling those funds to force union delegates onto company boards and directors' fees into the union movement to fund the Labor Party.

Let us hope the electorate has the intelligence to see through such duplicity.

Dear Alan,

«ensuring an equal start that just doesn't leave our best and brightest, left to clean toilets and drive cabs etc.»

What is wrong with cleaning toilets and driving cabs?

Rather, it is our best and brightest who shun unethical jobs, unwholesome technology and corrupt universities and therefore resort to cleaning toilets in order to pay their bills.

I have much more respect for toilet cleaners and cab drivers than for politicians, scientists, academics, managers and rich entrepreneurs. THEY ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING GOOD. Would you rather find your public toilet dirty and clogged with s*^t? Or would you like to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere with your car broken down and nobody to take you home?

«Equality has nothing whatsoever to do with how much hair you or I retain»

If you believe in equality, then those with hair should be paid more because they need to pay their barber/hairdresser's bills. On the other hand, those without need more sunscreen, well perhaps a hat is cheaper and more enduring.

In truth we ARE all equal - we are in fact one, we are God and the whole wealth of the universe is ours. It is only the human bodies with which we identify that are not equal, nor can they be and had they been equal, then we could not have experienced whatever we came down into the world to experience as presumably-separate human beings.

Alan B Quote "David: You don't normally come across as El Stupido."

Addressing anything to David Leyonhjelm is a waste of time.

I posted the following on Thursday, 13 December 2018 6:27:36 PM

It appears David Leyonhjelm is not very good at engaging the electorate or voters, I have looked at a number of articles he has posted here then went to the comments I could not find one he had replied too.

He has at a guess around 80 articles

http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/author.asp?id=6583

He or whoever is posting these articles in his name just don't reply.
His articles have now been relegated to the waste of time category.

But increasing economic inequality? That's just not true.
David Layojhelm,
I'm not so sure when I look at the situation with Pension asset testing in comparison to the generosity of Centrelink with those who literally pi$$ed their life against the wall & never worked & never paid income tax.
I'd say that is gross iequality at your doorstep. Discuss it with your Canberra mates & let us know what they think about it.

individual - Watch the number of freeloaders skyrocket if Labor gives them $75 extra.

They are also talking about cutting back the number of jobs they have to apply for from 20 to not sure yet, they have not said.

Philip S,
There simply is no economic sense amongst any of them, LNP nor ALP. Don't these imbeciles understand that in order to stimulate the economy you have to give people the ability to spend ?
Taxing the crap out of workers & prohibiting incentive is merely sending Country towns broke & places an ever increasing burden on those few who can still earn a decent wage.
I really thought our senior politicians would know that.

Dear Individual,

We would be really lucky if we had imbeciles in government - at least they would do no harm! Unfortunately one cannot be both shrewd and an imbecile.

«I really thought our senior politicians would know that.»

Most likely they do, but in case they didn't already, now they heard it from you and knowing how others suffer from their impositions only makes them rejoice.

Politicians are predators, they are there to serve themselves and themselves only, they enjoy the power and money that they gain from their position, sometimes the sex too.

Went to the local barber this morning & we had a group of older blokes discussing our politicians.
We had a 100% agreement that we all vote independent in the coming election because both Labor & the Coalition have lost the plot.
The money & benefits that they pay themselves are literally criminal.

Another great example of inequality is the fact that people who pi$$ed their life against the wall receive rent assistance whilst those who saved & bought their own place AND continuouesly pay rates, only get scrutiny from Centrelink i.e. the Govt.

The whole thing was planned.

Sydney women's rights group that helped a Saudi refugee escape 'filthy male kingdom' are 'heartbroken' that she snubbed Australia as she travels to Canada to start her new life

A Sydney women's rights group are said to be devastated that a Saudi refugee who they helped escape has decided to begin her new life in Canada.

Rahaf Mohammed al-Qunun, 18, feared her family would kill her after she renounced Islam, and allegedly enlisted the help of the covert network of Australian women to escape her native country.

The group believed she was bound for Australia up until last night, when it was confirmed that Canada had granted her asylum.

The teen took a flight to Seoul, South Korea, before boarding the flight to Toronto overnight, despite initial hints she was bound for Australia.

Her case was expedited after it garnered an unprecedented amount of media attention. For refugees seeking asylum in Australia, the general wait time is in excess of 15 months.

'Canada has been unequivocal that we'll stand up for human rights and women's rights around the world,' Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.

But the underground network of Australian women who allegedly helped the teen are devastated that she will not be joining them in Sydney.

The group, which includes other ex-Muslim women who have given up Islam, are said to be holed up in a Sydney safe house.

One of the group's members told The Australian 'everyone here is in tears,' after they learned of Ms al-Qunun's fate.

Another member of the group, known as Nourah, escaped from Saudi Arabia in October 2018, describing her former home as a 'filthy male kingdom'.

The group is comprised of women from many different backgrounds, some of which have escaped from Saudi and converted from Islam as well as other Australian women who are passionate about human rights.

In addition to Ms al-Qunun, the group are currently helping two other women who attempted to escape the region and have been stuck in Hong Kong en route to Australia.

runner,
I personally don't hate anyone or anything but I openly admit that I have a severe dislike of those who call themselves Australian but do everthing they can to destroy this Nation in the name of Democracy. From my perspective they're largely but not exclusively Leftist ALP & Green supporters & a handful of insipid LNP. If Only the charge of treason were introduced again.

One thing I am glad to hear from this topic, and that is a strong consensus against the major parties.
I have stated before that I have for some time, favoured independents, but mainly in the hope that we end up with a hung parliament, thereby arresting the creation of any more stupid laws, which incidentally seem to be created to our detriment.
The suggestion about inequality is another of the left, marxist, feminist movement's creations with a total lack of substance or merit.
It's just as Ben Shapiro said; the wealthy did not get rich by stealing from the poor. The poor are poor so they have no money to steal.
It is a product of the individuals and their mindset.
I recently had a verbal joust with someone who claimed that, as a country, we were guilty of abusing and leaving behind our less fortunate, namely our homeless.
I retorted, with prejudice, that there were few countries in the world that would match our social system of taking care of our less fortunate.
I explained that between the local, state and federal govt's we have the best support system for the homeless as good as if not better than other countries.
We have food vans who go to them and supply them with three hot meals a day.
Then we have just begun a mobile bathroom and laundry van, again goes to them.
Then there are the many other govt support schemes, so as far as trying to make those better off feel bad about the so called inequality and the poor homeless, sorry, you won't get a look in here.
The sooner the bleeding hearts get off their unrealistic, fanciful, immature buts and have a good reality check, they will find that just like un-employment, you can never achieve 100%.
Get used to it, grow up, stop dreaming and have good long look around you with your eyes and mind wide open.

In Australia the Unions have contributed to this inequality by fighting for equality for those who kept them in comfort in return. I have yet to hear of unions who fight for those who really need help. Unionism began by helping exploited workers but when the unions realised that there's more in it for themselves the game changed. Those who already get more than above average receive even more. Those who don't have a union representing them have to rely on the Smith family & the red Cross etc. Those on on immoral salaries should be made to contribute more.
Those who constantly demand that we give more should be made to give. Cut public Service salaries & benefits by 10% & Introduce a National Service in Australia & poverty will be a thing of the past.
Incentive is the driver that Govt has killed off. This year is handing us the silver platter of opportunity to get the two majors to wake up by voting more independent for some real balance.
