Inequality : Comments

By David Leyonhjelm, published 10/1/2019

Echoing the rhetoric of Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn, Bill Shorten recently claimed in a speech that rising inequality was the single biggest threat to Australia's social cohesion and the economy.

For starters Electricity Bill is talking Bollocks. The GINI index of inequality has remained constant for roughly 3 decades.

That the liberalizing of the economy started by Keating and continued by Howard delivered the greatest increase in living standards of the bottom 25% over 2 decades ever recorded in Aus seems to be ignored by the economic ignoramuses in Labor.

Winding back these reforms may reduce the "inequality" but make everyone substantially less well off.

David: You don't normally come across as El Stupido. But Equality has nothing whatsoever to do with how much hair you or I retain or the size of the penis etc.

The sort of equality all the speakers you referred to was economic equality and opportunity. And ensuring an equal start that just doesn't leave our best and brightest, left to clean toilets and drive cabs etc.

That country kids are not similarly disadvantaged by economic conditions applicable only to them when they attend uni.

Equality is simply about fair and equal treatment as a civilized universal goal!

The same universal civilized goal and humanity that tried, without complete success, to outlaw child labour and slavery.

With numerous examples now emerging and marked by the sheer calloused indifference of folk of the far right, who like all their similarly dispositioned forerunners, lack the normal human empathy to know that these and quite deliberately contrived inequality! Is just plain wrong!

And if you would understand just how wrong, suggest you read, Schindler's list?

Not that that would change anything about you or your, I believe, current narcissistic fundamentally flawed (me, me) personality.

For evil to prosper, good men only need do nothing!

Of coarse, equality is one of those mantras much beloved of the left. Its one of those things that doesn't have to be explained or defended because, like motherhood, who can be opposed to equality.

And let's all pretend to not notice that the drive to equality always ends in tears. Ultimately it leads to everyone, or almost everyone, being equally disadvantaged.

How long did it take for the constitution of Manor Farm to change from "All animals are equal" to "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."?

T'was always thus.

The Green/Labor sort of 'equality' that we are threatened with next year is the sort that has everyone equally stuffed and dependent on the Commissars, who will be a good deal more equal than the rest of us. 'Equality' has been turned into a dirty word, and outstandingly smart people who could save us are going under the bulldozer in the socialists' mania for levelling.

Oh, and the really horrifying thing about Australia's future is that people who are actually Liberal party supporters (at least they think are) are saying that the party has to become more like Labor to retain government. Lunacy abounds in Australia.
