By Peter West, published 10/12/2015

Many discussions of masculinity, my own included, have pointed out that masculinity has its paradoxes.

Hi 579

I agree. There have been numerous (suppressed) video shots of Abbott's strange gait-walk, which may indicate early onset dementia.

And then there was Abbott's Man-Tough "S--t Happens" phrase of sympathy on hearing of an Australian soldier's death. Note how Abbott's head shakes in tension as an interviewer dares to ask Abbott what Abbott meant:

But we need to watch out. Abbott may return as PM again. Maybe the MSM will have the guts to load the odd gait up to Youtube!

Plantagenent I thought your comments were, and were meant to be offensive. TA did better than those fools Rudd/Gillard/Rudd.
I think we could see TA come back and I for one would welcome it!
Oh yes keep the insults and abuse coming boys and girls.

"Abbott's strange gait-walk"

Maybe it was those large cojones. The big brass ones that caused him to solve that boat problem that others believed was beyond fixing, after they had lifted the lid on Pandora's Box.

Tony's walk
Tense in public I always imagined. Affected his whole body.

INTJ in Myers Briggs typology. Strongly introverted, thinking and logical, an analyst. His ministers should have worked harder and relieved him of some engagements, instead of cruising and taking care of themselves.

Tony Abbott did well to overcome his natural aversion to public exposure (and his intolerance of fools), but the tension showed in his walk for instance. In interviews he would have struggled too, having a host of (analytical) possibilities but being restricted to a fews words. -Especially in reply to those dilemmas the 'gotcha' journos love instead of doing research.

Now, how to explain Gillard's face plants, attempted and achieved? For instance, kissing Indian soil while flogging them uranium? -She couldn't lie straight in their garden bed either.

Can anybody anywhere explain this difference to me please?

Bob Hawke as PM awards the highest honour in the Order of Australia to Prince Phillip. Reaction = nobody gives a stuff.

Tony Abbott as PM awards the highest honour in the Order of Australia to the very same Prince Phillip. Reaction = over-the-top ridicule, derision, judgement called into question, is he on the same planet with us type comments, etc.

Discuss.

With an eye to Abbott's amateur boxing past:

"Dementia pugilistica (DP) is a ...neurodegenerative disease with features of dementia. DP may affect amateur or professional boxers, wrestlers as well as athletes in other sports who suffer concussions. The condition is [also]...blows below the threshold of force necessary to cause concussion.

The condition...manifests as dementia, or declining mental ability, problems with memory, and Parkinsonism, or tremors and lack of coordination.

[Does the following ring bells?] "It can also cause speech problems and an unsteady gait. Patients with DP may be prone to inappropriate or explosive behavior and may display pathological jealousy or paranoia."
