And, when I see a smoker I usually remark, there's a sucker on the end of every one of those.
Some have worked out, if they could have saved the money they sent up in smoke, over say twenty years, with their dirty stinking habit, they could have bought a house!
A neighbor still living with his mum, well into his fifties, and became just another emphysema statistic, unable to walk to the front door with chest heaving, with short very labored, rapid painful breathing!
His house not only went up in smoke, but his life became a virtual living hell, courtesy of a product, more addictive than heroin!
If only we could send people like him, or a mother who had to be permanently connected to a life saving oxygen line, during the last three years of her life, to school to tell the kids just how they got that way, (honestly).
And how they had to be accompanied by a 24/7 carer, afraid to sleep, least he/she stop breathing!

I really meant to add in to my post that all self inflicted injury, such as; Illegal Drugs, abuse of Legal Drugs, Alcohol related illness, attempted Suicide, The persons themselves & the Company producing those products causing illness or injury must be made to pay for any treatment administered.

It is just so typical of all governments to stuff things up as they generally draw their talent from those who the corporate sector bypassed.

As an example, had the government back in 2010 or so said something like, from the year 2013, any wholesaler or retailer must posses a license to sell tabacco products and the license fee starts at $200,000 annually and increases as per the volume they sell.

This would have not infringed on the manufacturers rights, would not have caused the confusion plain packaging has caused in the retail sector and, as the fee would have most definitely been 'passed on' it would have curbed smoking. Of cause it would only have worked if they fixed the loople in the online GST fiasco.

What governments need to decide, is do they want to stop smoking, or don't they.

There are several angles they can choose that won't see them being sued.

They can ban smaokng from any public place, full stop.

They can ban smoking from all workplaces, full stop.

They can ban smoking from any clubs, full stop.

They can ban smoking from any moving vehicle, as dropping a lit smoke on ones lap would be far more distracting than using a mobile in hand while driving.

In fact, governments can ban smoking from anywhere other than a persons own private property so that the minute anyone steps out their gate with a lit cigarete they can be finned.

Of cause they won't, because they rely so heavily on the tax revenue.

As with many things now, it's a double edged sword.
