It has always been humans since the days of old and it is human interpretations that bring us to today like a game of Chinese whispers where the story changes with the storyteller.

And it is our feeble mind-stuff that does impact the reality. I have no problems with Christians or any religious person or non-theists - the criterion for me is do no harm. But the Christian faith more than any other has so many interpretations it almost makes it meaningless other than a few core values that sit well on their own - 'do unto others' and respect for life etc.
