Oh, so China isn't a one-party state governed by the Communist Party of China? You know, mass murdering Mao's old party?

As for CJ Morgan's snide comments, he seems to have completely lost the plot on this one. These are serious matters for Australia's national security and should not be ignored at the behest of political correctness. CJ Morgan's clamorous accusations of "racists under the bed" are completely preposterous, but typical of the irrational nonsense spewed forth by an intellectual rustbucket.

It's interesting that CJ Morgan should mention Muslims and the Chinese. After all, Chinese oppression of Muslims in East Turkestan is quite well documented. But then again, China's oppression of religious freedoms in general is common knowledge in the West. Even in the face of egregious assaults on one of CJ's most cherished causes - minority rights - he turns squeamishly away when confronted with the uncivilised behaviour of the Chinese. Much easier to point the finger at the West and accuse his fellow countrymen of being intolerant.

Very tricky and unforgiving people the Chinese, but also very business savvey.

Doubt they are looking for war, ruins status and prosperity the cornerstones of thier culture. Why fight for it when you can buy it?

Thier population will go into reverse within 40 years, freeing up thier own vast land holdings.

Then again Chinese think in terms of centuries not decades the way we do, wonder what Chinese troops would do to our socialist scumbags at APEC meetings etc.
HMM thinking of CJ going under the tracks of a red army tank

I'm beginning to think that CJ Morgan was educated in the Maoist school of thought. His vehemently anti-Western, anti-Christian tune certainly sounds the same.

"Doubt they are looking for war, ruins status and prosperity the cornerstones of thier culture. Why fight for it when you can buy it?"

Perhaps I should have named this thread "Australia as a Chinese tributary state."

Samuel Huntington claimed in his influential book "The Clash of Civilzations" that Australia under Paul Keating had attempted to defect from the West in favour of closer ties with Asia. Huntington's claim was derided by our political elite, but it doesn't seem so outlandish these days.

As perhaps the most compliant and apathetic nation in the Western world, Australia seems content to allow itself to be dragged into the status of a Chinese satellite state - not only economically, but also politically and demographically. Canberra doesn't quite realise that Chinese cash comes at the price of our sovereignty in the long-term.

Ah yes, the Chinese are so "tricky". They've been at it for ages too. Do you know that in almost every Australian town of any size, and in many suburbs, there is a Chinese restaurant? Obviously these "red" cadres have been planted strategically by Beijing in order to provide a ready-made network of spies!

And as for that Kevin Rudd fellow, well obviously he's suspect because he speaks Mandarin. Probably a Red sleeper agent planted by Beijing as part of their plan for world domination, I reckon.

Seriously, I agree that the Chinese government has a reprehensible record, particularly with respect to human rights and environmental issues. However, I think that claims that they have designs on Australian territory or sovereignty are fanciful, to say the least. As somebody mentioned, they don't need to because by the beauty of capitalism - ironically - their burgeoning economy will be an increasing determinant of Australia's economic fortines in years to come.

Contrary to the fantasies of some, I'm not a Maoist, socialist, APEC demonstrator or ALP voter. One reason I vote for the Greens, however, is that they seem to be the only Australian political party with the guts to stand up to the Chinese government on human rights.

I'm certainly not anti-Western, but neither do I harbour the latter day Yellow Peril or Islamophobic fantasies that seem to bedevil some people. Australia has a richly complex society that is quite capable of adapting to a rapidly changing world, and one way in which it does this is by integrating diverse ethnicities, cultures and religions within itself.

Inevitably, given our geographical location, this will mean that our society will become less obviously 'Western'. Whether or not some people feel threatened by this is largely irrelevant, because the globalisation toothpaste's out of the tube.
