Some people are getting a pretty rotten deal from our reactions to Covid. A young lady [early 20s], living next door in their granny flat has lost her job as a nurse at a nearby vets, because she won't get the jab. She has found a job in Cairns, with vets who don't care about the jab.

She has a 12 year old 2WD drive Ford Ranger crew cab ute, & a horse float with all her worldly possessions in it & is about to set off driving the 1688 kilometers through the current flood conditions, as she has to start next Monday.

My son recently fitted a new thermo fan for her as the thing was overheating.

He also had to sort out her auto. At a stop the thing would not come out of reverse, when the change cable fell out of the gearbox, due to a broken plastic clip. I would not want to even try to drive it so far, & she does not have road side assist. Brave or foolhardy, I guess she doesn't have much choice.

I sincerely hope we don't hear of a young lady in trouble stranded in a flood with a broken ute. It is not right that such a brave & independent young lady should be forced into such an action. Sometimes I don't like this world.

She sounds like a foolish young lady, not concerned with the care and maintenance of the health of either herself or her vehicle.

She is a very foolish girl indeed risking her life
and those of others. Non vaccinated people are
nine times more likely to end up being hospitalized
and they put everyone else at risk who have to
come and try to rescue them.

My younger brother and his family is of the same
mentality as the young lady. And there's no convincing
them either. At least for now.

A plucky young lady, taking responsibility for herself, with the courage to stand up to the bullies and scaremongers. We need more of her sort in nanny state Australia. Three cheers for her new employers, as well. Hope you will be able to tell us how she gets on, Hasbeen

It’s hard to believe she is fessing up with the whole story. Has her previous employer been interviewed: maybe there is a deeper meaning here.

Covid-19 is a communicable disease. Special rules always apply.

Here is a spread on the history of anti Vader’s through the centuries.
Opposition looks pretty stupid in retrospect; especially the objection to the smallpox vaccination late nineteenth century. Plain dumb fits well.

Good on her.
She sounds like a fairdinkum Australian.

Diver Dan you make the same error as many in assuming that people who do not want to receive the "vaccines" on offer in Australia are antivaccination
Firstly they are not true vaccines in the old sense They were allowed to skip proper scientific scrutiny and their makers admitted they could not stop the virus but could only ameliorate its impact Many of us have been waiting for the safer and more carefully developed Covax 19 and Novovax vaccines but for some strange reason they are still not available in Australia
The Truth will out eventually over this whole sorry saga

What’s in a word? Anti vaxxer is a person refusing the vaccination re COVID-19.

As in the past, the media were a contributing cause of community opposition to vaccination, so too with the current Covid vaccines. Has anything changed?
Sadly not apparently.

What this stand indicates to me is a distinct lack of faith in medical science, if you wish to object, ( as you appear to), to current science.

The vaccines science rating is not at question. In your own admitted case, what you prefer to do is wait for better science to arrive.
I’m sure in the future this event will transpire, but currently what we have in the form of vaccines is what is publicly available.
The claim for the vaccine is to ameliorate the effects of the disease. That appears to be working.

But that doesn’t address the reluctance of a small group of the population to resist the mandate that appears to be in place, to put pressure on them to comply.

It appears the small component of objectors fall into three groups. Spiritual objection, political objection or philosophical objection. But from a view of public health, those who wish to abstain from vaccination are those with a pre-existing medical condition which could exacerbate the existing medical condition.

And as with any protest which goes against a public health mandate, there is a personal cost to pay for the opposition.
Should we have sympathy for objectors? I have sympathy for those that fall into the pre-existing medical condition, but I think this case cited above is melodramatic.

Let's hope the crazy old fart next door, didn't influence her not to get the vaxx. The time has come for all those who choose not to be vaccinated to be cut adrift, and take their chances with the virus.

Hearing of a rello of my wife's who unvaccinated, traveled from Sydney to Melbourne for the hols, Now in ICU in a hospital down there, in a bad way.

We went for the booster yesterday. Having had covid recently the booster is optional, we had it anyway.

That is very kind of Hasbeen and his son. What I see is the harm people will subject themselves to because of irrational beliefs. I don't believe in mandatory vaccination, but I think it moronic to increase your risk nearly tenfold. I disagree with foxy and Paul on many subjects. I agree with them on the benefits of covid vaccination. We will all be exposed to covid before long if we have not been already. I think it sad to see people subjecting themselves to risk because they choose to listen to internet crackpots and ignore the science based evidence for vaccination.

Hi JF,

The covid vaccines I have received have all been rigorously tested, and the evaluation is ongoing. I know a few antivaxers who have raised concerns about the evidence for the safety and efficacy of covid vaccines. Two claimed to have a sound basis for these views. One directed me to a site that claimed there were currently a trillion demons encircling the earth, some rubbish about Donald Trump the world saviour, then some crap about how 5000 celebrity illuminati were about to be arrested for paedophilia (at this point I lost interest in the site). The other gave me a link to a talk by a fundamentalist religious nutter. The site contained links to numerous other religious antivax sites, including one suggesting that you would go to hell if you were vaccinated.

The current stats from Queensland indicate a nine fold increase in the risk of hospitalisation for unvaccinated compared to fully vaccinated persons. I feel sorry for people who distrust information provided with the best intention by health authorities and instead choose to believe antivax nutjobs.

Well the poor kid didn't get far. She had only got to Nerang yesterday to pick up more of her gear, & the header tank of her radiator burst "with a bang". My son borrowed a tilt tray from a mate, & picked the thing up & brought it here this afternoon. Looks like he is going to have more work to do for her. He is getting sick of it, but she is a nice girl, who has had a lousy deal, so can't help himself.

He said the header tank is spilt wide open about 15cm along the top front. He thinks it may have been previously damaged, but the radiator cap must have not let pressure out. Evidentially the EGR valve on these can fail in a way that lets exhaust pressure into the cooling system, I doubt a head gasket could do it.

Luckily it happened before she had got too far, or she would have been on her own.

Hi Fester,

How could vaccine for Omicron be vigorously tested in the time frame since it was recently discovered?

Just like there is nonsense in blah blah among anti vaxers there is also nonsense among pro vaxers. For example there is no stay safe advice or government mandate about need to eat essential nutritious meals (almost daily) to strengthen natural immunity to fight disease. There is no sense in ignoring nature that has in fact been rigioursly tested.

Some of us who have already had covid symptoms conscientiously
prefer to rely on our own natural immune system instead of being squirted with a money making out of date coronavirus strain vaccine.

To not he allowed into a restaurant or a country with our own natural healthy immune system is absurd and preposterous.

Hasbeen,
I suggest putting a desert spoon of pepper in the radiator and leave the pressure cap off and dont drive too fast in hot weather. And keep checking the temp gauge and water level.
Good on your son for helping.

Hassy, I might not agree with the girls foolish behaviour, but thumbs up to your son for helping out.

I kept my fingers crossed for our niece, hubby and two little kids who made the trip from Sydney to Brisbane, and back in their old car at Xmas. Other than the oil dropping below the dipstick they made it ok. Topped up the oil with a thicker grade and back they went. Got home the oil was ok. They have done it tough economically with Covid, loss of income etc.

Hi JF,

I've heard about the natural immunity defence. I sent a recording of an exchange between a radio host and a natural immunity exponent to a non-vaxer. The host asked whether the fellow would have unprotected sex with someone infected with syphilis or gonorrhoea, then asked why he felt his natural immunity was enough to fight off covid. The non-vaxer felt the host was an idiot and the natural immunity exponent sensible, so I guess the point was lost on her.

I think the kindness of Hasbeen and son is commendable, but the premise is silly as the young lady is undertaking a long and hazardous journey in a vehicle unfit for the purpose for the sake of being nine times more likely to end up in hospital from a covid infection.

Hi Fester,

Yes, vax doesn't stop bones being broken either, nor does vax stop girls catching covid from an overheated radiator during daylight on a busy highway.
Use a condom for STD and drive a new car to control temperature.
And avoid Ch9 news to overcome covid phobia.
Above all be a true Australian and welcome Djoko to play his tennis.

Hi JF

Unless you want to change the entry rules and permit fraud and lying when making a visa application I would think it's a case of Novax Rackoffovic.

Vaccination is a means of harm reduction. I don't think it sensible to mandate. As with Novak getting a visa, that he has been dishonest and in breach of the entry rules is clear, but people will believe whatever they want to, and no amount of evidence will persuade some people otherwise.

Hi Foxy,

Since we're going to vote, who will be on the ballot paper; Goofy Charlie, Randy Andy, Harry Pothead, Buck Tooth Willie. Voting won't be compulsory, me hope not.

I was reading something the other day where a doggie got on the ballot paper for town mayor. The pooch got elected. Given the talent on offer, will animals be included, Skippy!

This talk on Bad Pharma is interesting...

http://www.ted.com/talks/ben_goldacre_battling_bad_science

Ben Goldacre (I believe currently at Oxford) talks about the issues with Tamiflu and the Billions perhaps Trillions that world governments have spent and the efforts of the Pharma to avoid responsibility and provide all the data to the Cochrane Group for mortality studies.

Paul1405 said "Out on parole?"

Answer- Well that seems more like a certainty as communists appear to "march through the public institutions". Everyone is at risk- we are all 'on parole'. There are those who fear to act- from being cancelled- the only thing to fear is fear itself.

Next time something bad happens consider if it is just random or was this predicted by nefarious insidious policy. Can you work together with others such as your extended family to do something to protect your family. Something bad might still happen- but at least over time it will help you manage the dangerous forces surrounding you.

Protect you children by teaching them about bad ideas and good ones- psychological self defense- can you trust the psychologists, the doctors, the teachers, the police in these dangerous times? You can't trust the teaching to the teachers especially for items of ethics- which should not be their purview.

Mao's four pillars strategy was schools, hospitals, police, army- from memory. Terrible what communist's do to children- wasn't it Lenin and Marx that said 'give me the children for 4 years'. A horrific thought... It's a parents right to say what happens to their children- sadly many have been stunned into silence- but I can't help but think- "but they are doing this to 'your' children- they are the future of 'you'- your life is caring for them- you must have courage- or shame- maybe both- what shame would you prefer to suffer over your children?".

There is no future but what you make!

For those following the saga, the division between the transmission cooler in the bottom of the radiator & the engine coolant in the girls ute failed, allowing 50PSI transmission pressure into the 14PSI engine coolant section of the radiator. The plastic header tank could not handle this & burst in a sort of explosion.

Richard fitted a new radiator, cleaned any water out of the auto transmission & pumped in fresh oil, & sent her on her way, with a cool ute, changing gears more nicely, but with a rumbling front wheel bearing, she needs to get replaced, somewhere other than here.

He thinks she has given up the idea of driving to Cairns, & definitely hopes so for her safety sake.

All this because she would not have the jab. As a qualified nurse she thinks they are dangerous. Obviously she & none of us can really know, we are not allowed access to the full facts, If they actually exist yet, but I admire her. She obviously has the courage of her convictions, & has paid for them in spades.

The Adelaide nurse and Crows AFLW player who refused to get vaccinated has now been joined by two police officers who are also exercising their rights not to be vaccinated in a court case. I don't know why they just don't get vaccinated and get on with their lives, but they certainly have more guts than most of us, and they are prepared to fight. It takes a lot to stand up to the bullies and the mob.
