individual,

The system is "broken" according to many. We might
well ask where are the recommendations that were
made by the Royal Commission into the Don Dale
Detentio0n Centre. What happened to those recommendations?
Why are ten year olds being jailed and separated from their
families? Why not raise the age limit to 14 as suggested
earlier. There's a whole litany of wrong-doings by the NT
government. And who cares? Where has the money assigned
earlier gone to? So many questions. So few answers.

Do we need another Royal Commission? Or simply sack these
parasites running the system? Not good enough!

Foxy, We need another stolen generation - remove them from the camps at birth and place them in settled homes.

Josephus,

It breaks one's heart that anyone's children
should have to be put through these sort of systems.
But you're right, something needs to be done. The
problems have gone on for far too long.

Where are the Indigenous leaders in all of this?
Why aren't any of them doing something?

Why not raise the age limit to 14 as suggested
Foxy,
Because it's too late by 14 ! Unless you've lived alongside households with such kids you can't possibly understand. Just read Paul1405's posts. He professes to be all knowledgeable about matters indigenous yet he hasn't a clue or, as it is possible to be the case, he's such an extreme racist opportunist that he's deliberately playing the ignorant type.
I have met many of his kind worming their way into the communities under the pretence of being on their side but at the first opportunity they hang tightly around the funding syphon.
That is why the communities can't make the progress many want because of the sabotage by their own & selfish bureaucrats.
Josephus's last post made sense but I'd like to see locals in charge under the guidance of outsiders with no family or clan pressure. This system worked when it was in place in Qld but the Goss Govt ended it because they thought the idea of Cape York being the indigenous State of Australia would appeal to the indigenous.

individual,

What a sad, sad , turn of events all this is.
I can't even begin to imagine how my own
grand-children would fare under similar
circumstances. But we must not give up hope
for the sake of these youngsters. They desperately
need the right role models to come and help them
broaden their outlooks and acquire the right skills
and motivations to try to seek and achieve something.
