By attending the opening of China's consulate in Adelaide, Premier Marsmallow told China that, no matter what they do to us, no matter what atrocities they commit, Australian politicians like him will suck up to them.

There are 10 staffers in this consulate in the residential suburb of Joslin - more than in most whole countries. Nothing to do with our multi-billion dollar defence and ship/submarine building, of course!

The locals and Adelaide's Uighur population are not happy. It is clear that SA's premier is the LNP equivalent of Victoria's China Dan.

It looks like we might be getting a missile plant in SA. Something else to keep the over-staffed Chinese consulate in Joslin interested. Marshmallow could give them a guided tour.

I feel that with Peter Dutton as defence minister
we'll have little to worry about regarding the
Chinese. Dutton will do an excellent job.

But, Dutton is still not the boss; and the boss is falling apart. There is no way the Liberals will have another leadership change any more than the opposition will. They think it makes them look bad. Personally, I think both current leaders make us look bad, and I trust neither of them to deal with the Chinese.

I think that Dutton is his own man. And, I think
that Morrison will happily leave the defence
problems to him. Just as Dutton was able to control
things in the best regarding our borders - I'm sure
he'll do just as well if not better this time around.
I think he's still got his eye on being PM.

Dear Foxy,

The viciousness with which Dutton has gone after whistle blowers and selected journalists should be very sobering for anybody who believes in freedom and accountable government. I think he is a very dangerous man and our country would be poorly served if he were ever to become PM.

Why are you people bad-mouthing Chinese all the time?

Stop it now! It's totally racist. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Now, write 'Ni hao' one thousand times and don't do it again.

Anyway, it's too late to be worrying about the Chinese. They're already inside the gate and can squash us like an ant.

Foxy,
Do we really still need a Defence Minister ? What would we be defending ? Greedy Australians who sell this Nation to the highest bidder ?

Hi Individual,

I think that we need a defence minister and Peter Dutton
is a good man for the job. We need someone strong who's
capable of standing up to the Chinese ( and anyone
else's) attempts at trying to manipulate us. Someone
who will maintain our sovereignty.

Chris Uhlmann had a good article in the SMH yesterday entitled 'An Australia at war with itself is ill prepared for these dangerous times'.

Pertinent to our defence and problems with China, I think.

Dear Foxy,

Only slightly less concerning than having him as the Minister for Home Affairs which is scant comfort.

He engaged in what I believe was patently corrupt behaviour multiple times in his previous role not just delivering au pairs for his mates.

There is enough of a stench around this bloke to give many people pause. But then again that could be said about a whole raft of the buggers in the LNP.

So Biden has been going harder on Taiwan than Trump ever did.

"The arrival of Hennessey-Niland marked the first visit to Taiwan by a U.S. ambassador in an official capacity since the severing of ties 42 years ago."

So much thus far for the naysayers.

On China. It was good to see Andrew Bolt giving New Zealand a lambasting for stabbing Australia in the back and sucking up to China. PNG selling out to China at one end, NZ probably ready to do the same on the other end.

The US is trying to escalate a situation with Putin over Nord Stream 2;
They're trying to stop the projects completion, and ramping up trouble in Ukraine again.

"He engaged in what I believe was patently corrupt behaviour multiple times in his previous role not just delivering au pairs for his mates."

Really, I don't even care about small infringements.
What's important is we have the person who's the best for the job.

If he IS the best person for the job, then so be it.
If he's NOT the best person for the job, then get me the person that is.

SR,

Once again you have posted baseless allegations without reading the article.

What we have is probably a low-level flunky in the public service who with only a cursory knowledge of the affair sees an opportunity to smear Dutton and runs to the far left whinge Guardian who happily prints this idiots' claims ensuring that the notification by the home office that this particular case never reached Dutton is only mentioned later in the hope that left whinge morons don't read the entire article and simply regurgitate the half-truths as fact.

Quod erat demonstrandum

SR,

So after Trump supplies $bns of modern weapons to Taiwan that can make invasion by China difficult, Biden outdoes him with a diplomatic visit?

If I was in Taiwan I know which one I would prefer.

shadowminister,

Obama vastly outstripped Trump in terms of missiles to Taiwan and over all spend. George W Bush out did the both of them. Trumps's efforts were certainly not extraordinary.

SR,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_US_arms_sales_to_Taiwan

Firstly I was talking about Biden's virtue signalling, and secondly, from Wiki, Trump's sales in 4 years roughly equalled Obama's in 8.

The positioning of Chinese Embassies does seem to point towards their aspirations. The Second Cold War is heating up. This is a test for Australia that perhaps sadly we will fail... it's surprising that such a strong independent self assured people after a few generations of spoiled children would come to such a fate.

While Communist China is definitely our enemy, and looking more like the Nazi Germany of the 1930s (only even more aggressive and belligerent) every day, whose fault is it that they are buying up or leasing our territory more and more? Easy: the Morrison government, which said it was going to look more closely at CCP "investments" in Australia but has done bugger-all; Australian businesses and agricultural companies and, last but not least, average Australians who are still buying Chinese rubbish because it is cheap.

The Chinese Communist Party, our mortal enemy, could not be doing what they are doing without the capitulation of AUSTRALIANS. And,let's not have anymore of this claptrap about worse things would be under a Labor government. All Australian politicians are the same, and stupid bloody Australians keep voting for them.

I get the impression that state labor leaders are ignoring the advise of ASIO. Yes the economic liberal free traders are complicit with China- cite Andrew (Twiggy) (doesn't care about the) Forest. But at least they don't support Chinese ideology. The money is just too much to ignore for the economic liberals.

Joke- how do you hypnotize an economic liberal? "show them the money".

To ttbn - Marshmallow's background is interesting- he doesn't seem to have the same background as other Liberals in SA- not to put too fine a point on it. So he's a bit of an outsider. I think that other Liberals need to bring him into the fold. SA has had a fairly good history of producing Premiers that serve the SA people well- in comparison to the travesty of other states.

Foxy On Dutton- I agree that Dutton is doing a great job in Home Affairs. I think he is from the Traditional wing of the Liberal party (as opposed to the dominant Economic Liberal Wing) and hence would serve British Australian people well as Prime Minister.
