ttbn,
Regarding Australia's relationship with booze, I think we're far more similar to Sweden than Soviet Russia - though excessive alcohol consumption is still a major problem, it is a declining one.

BTW I don't need a crystal ball. As the slogan on my father's t-shirt says:
There are two kinds of people: those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

There are occupations now that have random drug and alcohol testing. My son is regularly subjected to such tests before starting a shift. State Transit have a zero tolerance policy, you fail you're out, no if's or but's. Once the son had a Trainee, they came up and tested him, failed, he had a very short career as a bus driver. A complaint from the union, seen the "Drug Squad" as they call them, come one morning and test staff other than drivers, including the Depot Manager, he passed but took it as an affront that HE should be tested in such a way.

Random breath testing in Parliament House would be a good idea, all staff including MP's should be subjected to a drug and alcohol ban. Poor old Barnyard Joy with his purple face, they'd pick him every time. "I'm not drunk, its my natural colour....PURPLE!"

What we do need for Federal Parliament is an ICAC, they would find a lot more than a bottle of booze in some MP's bottom draw.

"Winston Churchill believed Europeans liked leaders who could hold their liquor, so he did nothing to discourage rumors about his alcoholic excess. Churchill admitted he relied on alcohol. He always had a glass of whiskey by him, and he drank brandy and champagne both at lunchtime and dinner."

Josephus,

Again with the "It's not US, It's EVERYBODY."

Trying to spread the blame around won't get your LNP deviants off the hook.

No, they're all alone in this one. No one wants to touch them with a 10 foot pole.

Two LNP MPs walking through the corridors of Parliament.
First MP says "Want to buy some photos of your wife in sexy underwear from me?"
Second MP says "Only if you promise to buy some of your wife in sexy underwear from me as well."

I saw in the news yesterday that Soot dropped 16 points in women supporters.

Assuming parity with Labor's women supporters this will probably equate to a 58 / 42 party preferred in Labor's favour.

Goodbye Soot

It is not the number of women in parliament it’s the level
Of their contribution that the individual makes.

As we have seen to date very many men have been promoted
Over women that should not have been.

It should be experience, qualifications, popularity, and so much more
That matters not gender.
