The China virus is every would-be despots’ dream, according to Alastair Pope, writing in Quadrant Online 16/2/21. Many of us have thought something similar, but we don’t get to say so in a prestigious magazine widely read by a discerning and, yes, conservative audience that doesn’t see its views published in the main stream media.

The virus has everything they, the “would-be despots” could hope for. It turns people into “sheeple” who are relieved to be “in the care of such devoted shepherds” who “bleat their gratitude in unison”.


One of the guilty , Daniel Andrews, is even up for a leadership award.

The main stream media has helped the fear campaign along from the very beginning with scary reporting about the China being the worst thing ever - more dangerous than “An invasion by flesh-eating aliens ….”.

Pope gives his reasons for his beliefs in detail, and points to the apparent “remarkable curative properties” of the China virus against other diseases, including influenza, which have all experienced a statistical plunge. “Who knew”, he writes, “COVID could cure so many other blights on humanity”.

A lengthy article, but well worth the read as our would-be despots ‘fumble’ and ‘bumble’; or, are they not fumbling and bumbling but using this “unique opportunity” (Prince Charles) to get more control over us?

Not only a godsend for those of an authoritarian bent but also a guide. Its been quite amazing how meekly Australians surrendered to the so-called 'emergency measures'.

Terrified and lied to by governments and media and some of the medical fraternity, Australians became mere pawns in a game of brinkmanship. Lives were ripped apart, the life work of many destroyed and yet still we rolled over.

Initially told the lockdowns were just there to flatten the curve, this was conveniently and obediently forgotten at the bequest of the leadership. Initially told that masks had little efficacy, people obediently forgot that when the leadership changed their mind to the point where those who remembered it were vilified as anti-social.

If you think this is the last 'emergence' where 'emergency powers' will be invoked, you have little understanding of history or our current leadership class.

Freedoms hard won, and easily surrendered will not be retrieved any time soon.


As an aside, and commenting on the lockdowns...there was a survey done t'other day asking people what would happen if the public servants/politicians were required to take a 20% pay cut whenever a lockdown was enforced. 82% said that there'd never be a lockdown again. The depressing thing about that is that people realise its all smoke and mirrors, yet they submissively go along with it.

You on the hard right surrendered any relevance on erosion of rights when you allowed your fear of women in Burkas to wave through incredibly powerful and authoritarian security laws in this country.

How on earth does staying within 5 kms of your home for a week equate to allowing 10 year olds to be held without charge for 14 days?

Or having whistle blowers face secret trails to answer to trumped up charges, or having members of the press raided with impunity.

All of this you lot have given your blessing. But now, in step with 'it's only a flu' mentality, you are calling Andrews a dictator.

I would point out to SR that this country doesn't have any laws against the Burka. What he needs to worry about is us having laws against the Berk, because then he'd be in real trouble.
