Village Idiot,

Yes, the planet is getting hotter: by around 0.5 degree in 80 years, here in Adelaide ! In barely 500 years, it would have risen more than 3 degrees ! Since nothing will be done between now and then to mitigate temperatures, how will they cope ?!

And the sea-level has been rising ! Around 2 inches, 8 cm, in the last century alone ! In barely a thousand years, the overall sea-level rise will be almost half - half ! - as much as the twice-daily tides !

And since nothing will be done, it means that some coastal areas will be occasionally threatened with flooding !

The sky is falling ! The sky is falling !

Foul-Mouth,

I didn't ask what anyone would do about stopping the temperature from rising.

We all know that the temperature is rising and changing the climate adversely.

What I'm asking is what will people do to mitigate the effects of the increasing adverse weather patterns.

I assume people like you would do what Soot does: go for a holiday to Hawaii.

Village Moron,

No, for one thing, I would plant more trees, by the thousands, and - with others helping - millions of trees. Although I've already done my knees in, planting trees :)

All along our coasts, where there is potentially decent soil inland, small nuclear power stations (about the size of those currently in nuclear-powered submarines, i.e. pretty harmless) could be built in their hundreds, to power desalination plants.

As well, other small nuclear power plants to pump water inland, to irrigate forests and orchards on drippers, hundreds of thousands of square kilometres of them - at around forty million trees for every thousand square kilometres. With our four or five million square kilometres of 'empty' land, there's 160-200 trillion trees. That could suck a huge amount of CO2 out of the atmosphere.

And of course, carbon, ash, etc., ploughed back into the soil. And developing the most suitable forms of algae to soak up CO2 in the oceans. And building structures which minimise the need for artificial heating and cooling.

You could probably think of other means of reducing CO2 ? I wait with baited breathe.

Foul-Mouth,

I'm NOT asking you how to sequester atmospheric carbon or reduce carbon emissions.

I'm asking how you would mitigate the adverse weather patterns associated with climate change.

Mr Opinion,
I'm not even trying to change the climate but I'm doing my utmost to convince the not-so-bright to stop breeding like rabbits & be Leftists i.e. willing slaves to consumerism !
That's the only way to ease the pressure on the environment ! Everything else will fall into place.

I have to laugh.
I have been away with the fairies and not followed OLO, during this period.
But I am surprised to see that some of my traits have rubbed off on some commentors.
Especially the ones I would never have thought it possible.
Here's hoping that the horses arses who do the adjudicating, are beginning to learn about being Australian and the Australian vernacular.
I am quite buoyed to see that some of you are beginning to talk Australian, OR like an Australian, and moving away from this censored PC crap they are attempting to force upon us.
Glad, and relieved to see it.
There is hope yet, for the truth and the righteous.
And remember; "The Truth Shall Set You Free"!
