Hi Paul
"Falling Down" is one of my least favourate films. With main character William Foster descending into a violent thuggery - holding up a McDonalds and all. Its meant to be a black comedy, but its sick, displaying typically American, gun wielding, brutality. Posted by plantagenet, Friday, 22 January 2021 11:25:39 PM

Hi Pete,
I thought the movie had a deeper message, the ordinary guy Foster who thought he had done good in life, what was expected of him as a good loyal American. Through a serious of personal events in his life, losing his job at the defence plant, and the divorce from his wife and child, things he couldn't accept, put him over the edge without him realizing it. Then through a series of accidental encounters he spirals out of control. In the end before he dies, he asks the question; "I'm the bad guy?" Fosters downfall, puts Sergeant Prendergast (Robert Duvall) the copper, puts his life back on track. The movie is a counter the the fraudulent concept of the "American Dream". Hi again Pete,
I was going to ask, what are your favourite movies? I tend to like Aussie movies, and some British stuff, having few favourite 'Hollywood" style movies. I mentioned somewhere here recently the Robert Carlyle movie 'Priest', that's a good movie. "The Catholic Church in Ireland were very vocal about their views in having the film banned from theatrical distribution. The film censor disagreed and the film was released with an 18 certificate. This marked a major turning point in the relationship between the church and the Irish Film Censor board." Anything the Catholic Church wants banned, must be good. Heck! They wanted to ban 'The Life of Brian'! Funniest movie of all time. Posted by Paul1405, Saturday, 23 January 2021 6:24:41 AM

I have to admit I haven't watched "Falling Down" since its first release - so I rely on distant impressions rather than the concerted study you've made. On what are my favourite movies? would suggest we Aussies learn (Southern China's) Cantonese, then find out all the movers and shakers in China speak Beijing centric Mandarin.
