SteeleRedux,
One day I will visit the US and go to see great tourist sights like Disneyland, Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, and the Great Unfinished Wall of America along the Mexican border. And far more importantly, Trump has shown Americans that even a lowly billionaire like him can become the President of the United States of America. I'm not going to miss him, I will however lament the opportunity missed to rid the World of the poisonous Left !

These cryptic comments of yours have to stop. I don't know if Left is Right, Right is Left, or Wrong is not Left. Stop it! Please stop it! You're driving me crazy! Posted by Mr Opinion, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 4:57:30 PM

Dear Mr. Opinion,
«One day I will visit the US and go to see great tourist sights like Disneyland» Really? So you do not actually believe what you tell us daily here, that China will take over Australia - for then we will all be either dead or slaves. Or perhaps... you expect the CCP to grant you special privileges like a passport to see America, in reward for all the demoralisation you cause in this forum? Posted by Yuyutsu, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 5:45:05 PM
| |
Yuyutsu,
Bingo! You guessed it: We will all have Chinese Australia passports. Which means you will no longer have Taiwanese citizenship and will probably be working in a re-education camp somewhere on the upper reaches of the Huang He (Yellow) River. Posted by Mr Opinion, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 6:08:49 PM
| |
Dear Mr. Opinion,
Wrong guess: I will never be working in a re-education camp because I would kill myself first, perhaps if I don't have any weapons left, then by jumping over a Chinese soldier from the top of a building. But what about you? Well you already told us that you will be holidaying in America - shame one you, traitor! Posted by Yuyutsu, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 6:38:24 PM

Nobody not an American citizen and supporter of Donald Trump has any reason to miss him; nor will anyone on OLO miss the non-stop, childish crap written about the man by Steelerduxe and other small minded ratbags.

The Democrats' tactics could bring on a civil war !

The most probable scenario:
Trump is impeached. But never found guilty by the Senate. Trump decides to run for the next Presidential election. But the Republican ticket is split and they run with two candidates. Republicans get more votes than the Democrats. But Trump and the other Republican don't have the numbers to win in their own right. Democratic nominee wins Presidency. But Democrats lose control of Congress. That's how I think it will pan out at the next election in fours years time. So point I'm making: We haven't seen the last of Trump. Dear Is Mise,
Well that is rather obvious but what bout you personally, are you going to miss the man even a little bit. In a way it is probably being a little unethical of me to take the kind of freak show delight that I do, but that is the nature of the man. I mean there wouldn't be too many of us who would ask our children to consider him a role model of any kind but even though I believe much of it was concocted for his audience Trump's appeal to a working class base is real. Sure he managed to convince them that enormous tax cut to billionaires would somehow benefit that working class but in the end that didn't matter, he gave hem his attention in ways that both the Republicans and the Democrats had failed to do for decades. As to the BLM movement it is hard to imagine it happening under Obama. The massive reforms to policing currently underway in so many US police departments is staggering. It is obvious that having such a divisive figure like Trump to push against has enable quite a revolutionary movement to get traction and bring about change. I know Americans have voted for civility and normalcy this time and it needs to be respected but hell it has been a ride and it's not quite over yet. Steele.
In the main, I agree with you and would make the observation that the Democrats are fools if they don't tread lightly, ammunition sales have skyrocketed and many stores are sold out of popular calibres. http://www.news.com.au/world/north-america/us-politics/alarming-rise-in-gun-and-ammo-sales-ahead-of-us-election/news-story/366335145a6a80d520c5446858bfffa9 and that link was before the election. Nothing wrong with every red blooded American having an arsenal of automatic weapons in the Man Cave. After all, isn't it every American's right to take the law into their own hands? Posted by Mr Opinion, Thursday, 14 January 2021 8:32:01 AM

Dear Is Mise,
Agreement? Well that is a turn up for the books. Anyway I think you will find the spike in gun sales coincided with the worse period of COVID and its accompanying panic buying and over run hospitals. It seems to have been declining since. Mindful also that election years generally bring about a jump with people getting ahead of proposed or imagined gun restrictions. The same happened in 2016. “Gun sales hit a record high in 2016, according to FBI data on background checks released on Wednesday.” “The spike in gun sales came in a year dominated by rising fears of international terrorism and the potential for a Hillary Clinton presidency, which some feared would lead to tighter firearm regulations.” http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/312645-gun-sales-hit-record-high-in-2016 Posted by SteeleRedux, Thursday, 14 January 2021 8:51:11 AM

Is Mise,
That is so disgusting. I hate bugs! You know what people say about cockroaches: "Everyone has cockroaches in their home except me." Actually don't waste your money on pest exterminators, spray cans, traps, etc. to get rid of cockroaches. They come back every time. What to do: Seal off all the walls and openings into the living spaces because they come in from the drains and through cracks, holes, etc. in walls, floors, etc. Don't install cavity sliding doors in the house. Use swing doors. The spaces around the sliding door is one big gap in the wall that can't be sealed off. Anywhere you have an opening. And they come straight from the rat infested drains and into your living space. Yuck! Rat-sh!t coated cockroaches! So . . . . . . . . SEAL IT OFF. The only thing I liked about Trump was the greater attention he gave to the CCP, albeit he refers to it as China.
Great showman, but that is about all from my perspective. He will go down in history as a clown, but a hero to the minority that is the hard right. Some of the people that I thought were half-decent on the right appear to like Trump, which I cannot understand. Posted by Chris Lewis, Thursday, 14 January 2021 4:06:14 PM

Hi SR and Chris
Its a mark of the propaganda job Trump did on Republicans that he still has considerable support: "42% of Republicans said they would vote for Trump in the 2024 presidential primaries in a poll conducted Jan. 8-11, after the attack on the Capitol." See http://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurkee/2021/01/13/support-for-potential-trump-2024-run-plunges-after-capitol-riots-poll-finds/?sh=5294775f9b05 Here's hoping a string of court cases, on what Trump did Before/After being President, bar him from ever holding office again. All you have to do is look up the official results. 80 million (Biden) - 73 million (Trumpf) = 7 million in favour of Biden. As an avid follower of the history of science, I'd love it if there could be a chemical analysis performed on the peculiar pigment he uses to tint his skin such a delightful colour, possibly to be utilised by artists of the future looking for a particularly orange-y shade of orange.

loudmouth2,
So, if so overwhelming a result why then the vicious pursuit of the second impeachment ? If Trump hadn't been so incessantly hounded & sabotaged by the Left he probably could have done a lot of good, alas ! Posted by individual, Friday, 15 January 2021 6:45:59 PM

Dear individual,
You ask: "So, if so overwhelming a result why then the vicious pursuit of the second impeachment ?" Why on earth is it vicious. Why shouldn't Trump be investigated for what went on at Capitol Hill and if found guilty of inciting insurrection be properly dealt with? Or is it that as your current favourite authoritarian figure he shouldn't ever be accountable for his actions? Posted by SteeleRedux, Friday, 15 January 2021 8:18:33 PM

By not having a real investigation into the voting system they have
left a bad smell hanging around. It doesn't matter whether you believe it or not enough private citizens were firm enough in their belief to sign affidavits. If the democrats were convinced themselves they would have those witnesses charged with false evidence. BTW, one report I only heard on the radio was a good one in that the CIA setup an operation centre with the assistance of the Italian Security organisation in Italy and had complete voting system installed. It sort of ties up with an earlier report that a US Army establishment in Germany had several sets of mark sensing scanners and computers of the voting system. Now that would make a good Le Carre novel but it is the sort of thing that would be easy to check for a commission with enough power. In Nevada I think it was a graph showing the voting had a quiet night with not much difference but as soon as counting started the next morning there were 100,000 votes for Biden. That number from memory but the graph is very clear in my mind. Thats the sort of thing a Royal Commission would salivate for ! Posted by Bazz, Friday, 15 January 2021 9:44:39 PM

Anybody who saw Biden's speech on TV on Friday re the things he is going to put in place to get the society and economy back on track should read between the lines if they want to know what he intends to do with China.
My guess is that if China thinks they had problems with Trump then they are going to find that Biden will be a whole lot worse. I reckon Biden is going to make the Chinese pay a price for unleashing the pandemic on the world and particularly the USA. You have to take into account that Biden will also be trying to win over a lot of Republican supporters to his cause so I think he will give them a bit of what they want to see in their Xmas stocking. My gut feeling is that Biden will bring it all back to pre-Trump & the swamp will again start to fester !

individual,
There won't be enough loose change in the US to maintain a swamp. I have a funny feeling that Biden will do some things especially to China that will even make Trump smile. From the way Biden was speaking on Friday I got the impression he is aiming to pull American manufacturing back onto America's shores and restructure the class system for a more equitable distribution of wealth. Welcome back 1950s America. If he can do this Biden, not Trump, will go down in the history books as the one who made America great again. Posted by Mr Opinion, Sunday, 17 January 2021 10:15:47 AM

TOO EARLY TO "MISS" TRUMP. HE AS BEEN UN-MISSABLE FOR 42 YEARS AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE!
Hi again SR In less than 12 hours Trump will no longer be President but no one will miss Trump because he will be UNMISSABLY very much still in the Public Eye. It must be remembered Trump has very much been UNMISSABLE as a major Business and Media personality since the late 1970s. That is, Trump's major building projects influenced Politicians for 40 years Before he became President http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump#Business_career and his Media Profile http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump#Media_career will influence politicians for years After he is President. Trump was politically active 17 years Before he became President. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump#Political_career With Trump raising more than US$100 million (since the Election) that will finance a continued out of office Political career complete with Bribes to politicians and Trumpster Rousing Rallies/Riots. Many Trumpsters back Trump the Man not Trump the President. Also all the ex and current Politicians Trump has Pardoned over the last few days will reinforce Political support for Trump. And I will admit there has been some things he has done that I have applauded. For instance I have enjoyed seeing the right pivot on free trade. I have taken perverse enjoyment in seeing the corruption and nepotism of the elite flaunted with few of the usual filters in place. I have also enjoyed seeing the religious right in the US losing so much of the moral high ground by supporting him.
I have a very real sense of him being a cathartic figure, where some of the things that have deeply afflicted the US have been exposed and will have been reckoned with to a degree under his presidency.
I'm not comfortable with him losing his Twitter access but think those in Australia who ran the line that the Murdoch papers are privately owned therefore can spout whatever slanted point of view they want have a difficult time making the case that Twitter should be directed to reinstate it.
The hope for the Democrats will come down to how much influence the likes of Sanders has on the party.
But Trump managed to knock the scab off many things and what Americans have seen lying underneath has forced a rethink by many.
If done right this should allow a valuing and strengthening of its institutions.
