With an horrendous death toll from Covid-19, more than 100,000, plus mass unemployment, 40 million filing for benefits during the pandemic, giving a real jobless rate of over 23.9%. The American economy is heading into a period of deep recession. Now more than a dozen American cities are being subjected to violent rioting, because of another unjustified police killing of a man of colour, looting and burning is common place in many locations. Many say the Trump administration is the worse ever, branding it as totally inept and chaotic.

Given all these negatives, can the United States remain the worlds only super power, or will it continue to decline and be overtaken by China in the near future?

It’s certainly headed in that direction, Paul. China is slowly limping along that rugged old mountain track, full of potholes, catching up with the US which, sadly, has stumbled and put one knee to the ground – but, you never know, the US might come to its senses and be saved by the bell – set to ring on Tuesday, 3 November.

Hopefully, the old man in the starting blocks, waiting to take the relay, will be able to resist a little longer … provided, of course, his vision is better than that of his predecessor and doesn’t run in the wrong direction in the same erratic fashion.

But the idea that China will provide anything to aspire to, at least from a liberal rights perspective, is the stuff of dreamland.

The riots that have broken out all over the US highlight black racism, which is always lurking, waiting for an excuse to run amok and do a spot of looting. Had the victim of police brutality been white, there would have been none of the mayhem that is now occurring. White Americans do not behave in that way, as white people don't worldwide. Just one of the many differences between the races that renegade whites deny in their obsession with false racial equivalence.

The usual signs are being waved: 'black lives matter', 'coloured people shouldn't be murdered', 'stop killing us', and lots of other blah. All lives matter, nobody should be murdered, all killing should stop.

While the murderous cop who quite inhumanly put his boot on that man's neck deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail, as do his colleagues who stood by, there is no excuse for full scale riots, which could lead to more deaths, and looting and wrecking property.
