Henry,
Bigoted, biased, lying: that's the ABC for you. Fortunately, few of all those 'quiet Australians' listen to or watch it. Posted by ttbn, Monday, 12 August 2019 1:40:15 PM

I get fed up telling people to turn off the TVs, pick it up and throw the crap invention out into the back yard. And the radio. Stop supporting the bias main stream newspapers. There is no good one. They all of them, have vested interests, unsupportive of good citizens. But you'll keep on whining on about the ABC till dooms day no doubt. Dan. Just for some balance. Here's a few facts:
Jemima Burt is a news reporter in Rockhampton Queensland. She has also worked for ABC Rural and ABC News in regional South Australia. Here's a list of the articles covered: http://www.abc.net.au/news/rural/jimima-burt/8509512 And - Here's the actual article under discussion: http://abc.net.au/news/2019-08-11/how-big-a-problem-is-racism-in-regional-and-urban-australia/11373214 Posted by Foxy, Monday, 12 August 2019 2:17:14 PM

I think that the OP should read the link again, or for the first time.

"The second is about a waitress informing a customer that they kept Halal meat, in conversation about the menu."
Pioneers are often condemned, just as a prophet is not honoured in her own country (or century). Any time soon, that waitress may be feted for pioneering what has become compulsory for all restaurants. Joe Posted by Loudmouth, Monday, 12 August 2019 4:05:05 PM

Could the Doctor have behaved in a manner that made someone legitimately ask if she was a Prostitute ?
That Palestinian chap in Rockhampton was pushing an agenda. I listened to that story & the woman interviewing him was only too obliging. There was underlying attempt to claim racism but it was rather amateur-ish & it came across as very shallow. Posted by individual, Monday, 12 August 2019 4:45:17 PM

Around 75% of Australians have a solution the the ABC - they ignore it. We can't get rid of it, thanks to gutless politicians. But watching it or listening to it, complaining about it, but then continuing to watch and listen to it, is daft.

I rarely watch the ABC because of the political slant they put upon what should be unbiased reporting, however I’m going to make and exception next Monday as Jacinta Price will be taking on Noel Pearson and Pat the Hat.
At least with Jacinta you get an honest opinion and unbiased information. Posted by Big Nana, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 9:27:24 AM

Dear HenryL,
The first story was about an Asian woman being assumes to be a prostitute primarily because of her race. The second is about a Palestinian Australian only getting an appointment to inspect a property when he said his last name was Smith instead of Al-Natour, and the third one was a really positive story of a Bangladeshi family's experiences moving to Rockhampton. But you missed the whole bloody point of the story. It was to show that experiences of racism were not markedly different in the 'bush' than in the cities. Indeed the title in the link is; how-big-a-problem-is-racism-in-regional-and-urban-australia. Perhaps you were confused by the lack of a question mark. They are not used in urls as they are a command symbol. My reading of the article was that it is a positive piece not a negative one at all. I think it reflected well on the people of FNQ. The fact that you decided your response was going to be dismissive and insulting speaks far more about your jaundiced views than anything else. The liar in this instance is not the ABC. As individual said go read the thing for the first time. Posted by SteeleRedux, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 9:39:25 AM

SR,
You are the same bent as the journo and try to make a racism issue out of anything. There was not one iota of racism in the article and the author realized it was dull and decided to liven it up by adding the click bait of racism to the title. Posted by HenryL, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 10:51:53 AM

Dear HenryL.,
I got a totally different take on the link given. I found it to be a positive one - and was somewhat surprised why the ABC was being blamed. I thought it was good reporting - on people's experiences and encounters in rural areas. Do we have to politicise everything? Posted by Foxy, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 11:01:38 AM

Steele,
"As individual said go read the thing for the first time" That gem of wisdom was from me. I found the article to be quite reasonable when read in its entirety. Posted by Is Mise, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 11:19:26 AM

I'm listening to ABC radio lately because that's all there is to listen to where I am presently.
There is quite a bit of anti White interviews over the past few days. It apparently was for non-whites to have been ignorant generations ago when dealing with another race & culture but not for Whites. They did everything deliberately wrong. Not an ounce of benefit of doubt that Whites may have had to figure things out whilst under attack by some cranky tribe. Posted by individual, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 12:46:53 PM

The ABC has some brilliant programs as does SBS but we no longer watch SBS directly as their adds are a problem, so we record it and fast forward over the adds.

What gets to me with these two stations is that they're like a bull terrier hanging onto the faintest bit of a whiff to find what they like to see as racism & then blow it up all out of realistic proportion.

Dear Big Nana,
You had me until; "At least with Jacinta you get an honest opinion and unbiased information." At an important level she is just another rightwing bully and will no doubt act like it on Q&A. Of course like anything her aboriginality shouldn't preclude her from joining the ranks of rightwing bullies as that is her prerogative. But that also means she should be called out on it just like anyone else. Posted by SteeleRedux, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 4:05:49 PM

Dear Is Mise,
Sorry for incorrectly attributing your gem, and a very welcome gem it was. Dear individual, Are you serious more like it. Jacinta Price is a director at the Centre for Independent Studies for goodness sakes, one the the most rightwing think tanks in the country. What makes you think she isn't rightwing? Bugger the ABC. I watched Dogs Behaving Badly on 7 last night. One of dogs needing training was a French Bulldog who enjoyed eating his own poop. Much more entertaining than the poop on the ABC.

Steele redux, Is NZ Labor different to Aus Labor ? Are they perhaps still a real Labor Party seeing that you think they're right wing ? Posted by individual, Wednesday, 14 August 2019 7:46:46 PM

It doesn't really matter whether they are left wing or right wing because they play both sides off against the middle and it's pass the baton in a 2 party system.
All that matters is if they're Globalist or Nationalist. - And PM Dodo is a Globalist. Posted by Armchair Critic, Thursday, 15 August 2019 5:19:11 PM

Dear individual,
What? Your post doesn't make one jot of sense to me my friend. If you are a fellow at the CIS you are right wing full stop. Why should that be so hard to accept? Posted by SteeleRedux, Thursday, 15 August 2019 5:24:45 PM

SR,
As a middle-of-the-road kind of person, I'm interested more in what people have to say and their arguments and the reasons for them, than in who they associate with. I abhor Trump, for example, and don't have time for idiocies like Brexit, but also have little time for yet another 'Voice'. So I'm happy to be called a lefty fruit-cake by some, and an alt-right by others. Everything that I've heard or read Jacinta Price contribute makes complete sense to me. There are few Indigenous leaders with her courage and integrity and I wish her well in her up-coming speaking tour around Australia. She will be in Adelaide on August 26 at the Star Theatre in Hilton for anybody who is interested. Cheers, Joe Posted by Loudmouth, Thursday, 15 August 2019 6:00:15 PM

Just listening to ABC Radio right now I was appalled at the deliberate mis-quoting by their Breakfast host Hamish.
In the interview with a former pacific island PM he said that Australian deputy PM McCormack said Pacific islanders were welcome here to pick fruit, implying that if the need arose for them to vacate their islands due to sea level rise. McCormack did not infer THAT. Posted by individual, Monday, 19 August 2019 7:49:18 AM

This appeared this morning and apparently was written by one Jemima Burt, whom I assume is an ABC journalist, although google does not know of her.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-08-11/how-big-a-problem-is-racism-in-regional-and-urban-australia/11373214?WT.ac=localnews_brisbane
If you read the article you will quickly see it has nothing to do with racism. It has three stories, the first is about a woman being asked if she was a prostitute by staff of a motel.
The second is about a waitress informing a customer that they kept Halal meat, in conversation about the menu.
The third story is about some bloke not being able, in Queensland, to get the same variety of vegetables as in western Sydney.
My dictionary tells me that racism is when someone believes or states that a person of one race is superior or inferior to a person of a different race. It is obvious that some, like this journalist, try to make a racism argument out of every situation. These people show their ignorance of the words meaning.
The only way to stop this misinformation is to bring it out into the open as it appears and embarrass the author on each occasion.
I seem to recall the stories, so the title could be click bait.
