What journalists write is just their opinion, but curried with-in the confines of the Organization for whom they work. Really, their opinion is no better or worse than yours or mine. Weather you agree with a particular Journalist depends of your own particular Belief. If he went to work for another Organization with the opposite flavour of Politics his opinion would change towards that Organizations Flavour of Belief.

As regards Barry Jones. We don't get him on Brisbane Radio & I haven't listened to the Radio in 30 years. So I wouldn't know. I do know that like Darrin Hynch he does cause some controversy, but that's what he is paid to do & he's apparently good at it.

qualifications that these people need to even earn

What they do in the Journalism Course at Uni. is to teach the person how to word their articles for the Organizations Market.

As explained in the Pamphlet "Journalism for Beginners" by Hestia Quinn (77) Selecting a Market. Each Organization will chose it's own Style, but adapt it, or slant it to suit it's readers.

Now-a-days the Courses are slanted towards Left Wing Political Reporting. If you were doing the Course now-a-days & put a Right Wing Slant on any article you would be failed & kicked off the Course. Ay.
