Does my heart good to know you have them worried. Just a simple question of everyone. How many people actually pay any attention to how to vote cards for the house. Of course the above the line system for the senate it totally immoral, designed to help only the majors, so the simple minded use it. Posted by Hasbeen, Saturday, 30 March 2019 2:26:25 PM

Tell me this is not true, one nation preferences helped Labor win seats in the recent by elections
One nation is weak in all but Queensland Tell me again this woman will somehow have an influence of Federal politics Then repeat all that the week after the election Left, a word warning the person using it is uninformed about politics Great news story, great insight in to the purely amature nature of one nation And a pointer to the truth, her followers are lost and in the end hurt Conservatives Posted by Belly, Saturday, 30 March 2019 3:18:51 PM

There's been so many controversies and outrages over
the past decades from - race-horse ring-ins to Rolf Harris's fall from grace, to the Fitzgerald Inquiry, Christopher Scase, Alan Bond, Rose vs Gina, Cash for Comment, Utegate, Children Overboard, Australian Wheat Board, Tony Abbott's secret "son", our prison system that locked up 10 year olds and placed children as young as 13 in solitary confinement, and more recently Barnaby's baby, and of course the Royal Commission into Banking, and also the Royal Commission into child sexual abuse, and then Cardinal Pell - and the list still goes on. we've got an inquiry into aged care, a dead-fish problem, there's also our problem with water, energy, the Murray-Darling, our rural areas and flooding, drought, and bushfires - politicians resigning in droves, and more ... But hey, the voters they tell us - get it right in the end? I guess we'll have to wait and see for that one. In the meantime - at least we now know what - One Nation really stands for - and it ain't honesty and integrity - Surprise, surprise? Or is it? Posted by Foxy, Saturday, 30 March 2019 3:43:58 PM

Liberal and Labor always come up with dirt on One Nation prior to elections: two left-wing parties against the right. I just hope that there are enough voters left who will ignore the Morrison/Shorten rabbiting on about preferences and put preferences where they, THE VOTERS, want to put them.
How stupid is Morrison! Wanting voters to put One Nation below Labor. Or, perhaps he us just further to the loony left than he appears to be: one of the small 'l' liberals calling themselves 'moderates', hoping to hide the fact that they really belong in the Labor party, but were rejected as Turnbull was. My strategy is still writing 'none if these' on the lower house paper, and voting in the senate for candidates who will restrain whichever crappy major party gains government. "In the meantime - at least we now know what - One
Nation really stands for - and it ain't honesty and integrity - Surprise, surprise? Or is it?" What we don't seem to care about is what Al Jazeera stands for. i found the two men from the one nation party very frighting and extreme, particularly the older man. the old man seems a bit crazy about guns and upset that the government took his guns off him. what would he do if he did control the government as he said he wanted to do.

Foxy,
Don't you have any concerns that Al Jazeera seems to have planned this at least three years ago and sprung it just before the Federal Election? Al Jazeera's operative tried to snare the SF&F party and also The Sporting Shooters' Assn but to no avail. Perhaps Al Jazeera can be excused, after all, Qatar is a "bastion of civil rights" and they haven't executed any homosexuals even though they have the death penalty for that offence, they have flogged a few though. Sharia law prevails. Posted by Is Mise, Saturday, 30 March 2019 6:18:33 PM

Wahine,
The old man, James Ashby, is a nut but not a nutter and it doesn't really matter how many guns he owns, he's not likely to run amuck. If you are concerned about guns then worry about all the criminals who have illegal firearms, one of them might be sitting next to you on a bus or train. The 'old man' is not James Ashby who is a young man. The old man, who only looks old to a child, goes by the name of Dickson, or something like that.

The younger one is James Ashby. Ashby should have been turfed long ago.
He is accident prone. They both said things that they knew could never be made to happen. They were just blowing bull dust up the Americans. They were stupid because the Americans would be straight onto their mates in Australia who would put them in the picture. What is intriguing is the use of an "ex ABC" journalist by AlJ in a three to four year project. I would love to be an auditor at the ABC. It has a smell about it Le Carre would be proud of. Would One Nation's policy on Islam be enough for Al Jazera to devote so much money to four years grooming plus all the expense of this trip to America, accommodation etc etc. Just to embarrass One Nation ? I bet you could spend all day on the street in Qwait asking people about One Nation and no one would know what you were talking about. You would find they have no interest in Austria ! After all this dies down don't be surprised if the snoop is back at the ABC. I also wonder if Getup is behind it. The Labour Party has that sort of money. Hmmmm Oh another conspiracy theory ? thank you belly for the welcome, i will try to be fair with any comments i make. the older man's name was steve dickson, i looked it up. he is very extreme with his gun talk, he was angry that the government took his guns off him, and he wanted them back. why did they want $20m from the americans? i think pauline hanson will get a lot of votes from people who think like steve dickson, but those who are concerned about guns, but were going to vote one nation will change their vote, because of what they seen on tv.
is mise we have to be concerned about the criminals having guns, but i dont want to see anyone killed by people with automatic guns like has happened in christchurch and before in tasmania. the mass killings happen in america all the time, why is that, they have so many guns but the mass killings continue, their laws must be wrong. Wahine,
The Americans have many more problems than we do, and the crime rate is going down in the US, just as it is here. Both Australia and the US are getting more guns into civilian hands, which proves that the more guns there are the less crime. People in Australia are a bit nervous though, look at the debacle in Melbourne when half the city rail network was shut down because someone thought that they saw a person with a gun in a bag, turns out it was a didgeridoo. http://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/city-loop-trains-disrupted-due-to-police-operation-20190328-p518ck.html Posted by Is Mise, Sunday, 31 March 2019 9:11:46 AM

hi is mise, you said more people in australia have guns. i dont know people with guns. are you saying people on the street have guns hidden on them? i hope this is not true, because people would shoot others when they have an argument or are drunk. people can get very upset over just a little thing and then one word leads to another, and they could shoot someone when angry, like in domestic violence.
do you think that man steve dickson will get voted in? i dont like him, he speaks like crazy talk, he said he was going to hold a gun to the governments head, he could be very dangerous doing that in the parliament, because they do argue a lot.he was very angry they took his guns off him, he wants them back. if he was in parliament could he take guns in there? You can attempt to shoot the messenger all you like but One Nation got caught with their pants down and are rightly getting spanked for both heir outrageous views and their idiocy. You feeble attempt at deflection is pretty pathetic. I suppose you won't agree with the head of the SFF party when he says; “Shooters, Fishers and Farmers leader Robert Borsak says his party has never had dealings with the National Rifle Association, as he slammed One Nation as "almost traitorous" for seeking millions of dollars in donations from the US gun lobby.” When other right wing parties are cutting them loose you know they have really gone feral. His syntax, punctuation & spelling appear to be calculated into luring us into believing he/she's a very naive, albeit innocent individual. One who merely doesn't understand the essential issues surrounding F/A's in toto, in this Country. You inferred WAHINE inter alia, IS MISE had stated, 'people were wandering about the streets with concealed F/A's in their possession'? I don't believe so? IS MISE is well versed with the Firearms legislation, as it applies in NSW. Moreover WAHINE, your entire first paragraph sounds very much like you're attempting to deceive us all, with you guileless even ingenuous assertions? With the sudden gush of bad publicity against One Nation I could not help but think that Pauline has the two major Party's so scared that they would collude to keep the Power just between themselves. Now we know for sure that they are. If you see this on Facebook, it's from me. NOW HEAR THIS. The How to Vote Card is only the party’s idea of how they want you to vote. There is no compulsion to follow their suggestion. How you vote, & in what order you place your Preferences, is in your hands & your hands only. No Party can tell you where to place your Preferences. That is for you & you only to decide. Tell the big Party’s where to shove their Voting Preference Cards. Follow you own head & Heart. VOTE & PREFERENCE WHO YOU WANT. NOT WHAT THEY WANT. Hi there BELLY Ol' Chap...
I note you gave WAHINE a brief account, concerning the amount of Guns we have in the community. Then you were kind enough to explain to him, the type of targets, shooters prefer. All manner of road signage apparently, even the cattle that grazed behind them (the road signs). You were also adamant that graziers had a legitimate need of F/A's, including a .410 Shotgun; ostensibly a necessary calibre for the eradication of reptiles? Further appraising us all, that City folk have all manner of F/A's, all of which are required by law, to be secured under lock & key. And in your closing sentence, you say '...maybe it's the one the police don't know about that should concern us...'? By and large BELLY you're right. However, I can advise you authoritatively; there are only a handful of 'boofheads' who vandalise road signage or recklessly shoot livestock as a consequence of vandalizing those signs. The penalties were/are severe for the wanton destruction of such road and traffic warnings for very obvious reasons, road safety. I've seen an accused persons receive up to 18 months gaol (on top), PLUS a prohibition; of possessing, carrying, or using, a F/A for a period of 15 years. Moreover, inquiries reveal many country Municipalities, resent repairing these bullet-ridden signs, as long as they are still readable, and not a severe traffic hazard. They usually defer fixing or replacing them, until their next financial year, purely on economic grounds. In conclusion, BELLY, most vandals apprehended for 'shooting-up' this signage, have local (country) addresses! Posted by o sung wu, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 12:21:12 PM

Loudmouth: Scared of that ditz who can't ever get her story straight ?
Admittedly Pauline isn't as polished at speaking as most Politicians. She does tend to tell it like it is though. Most politicians of the two major party's just plain straight lie & the Media go along with it. I see in yesterdays & to days papers pages & pages of concerted attack on Pauline & One Nation. Why is that if they (LNP & ALP) didn't think she was some sort of threat to their Capitalization of the Government. Strange that. Besides the LNP & SLP are going to Preference each other in the coming Election. If that doesn't tell you that they want to keep the Government Club just between themselves with just a few annoying outsiders to look like they are being Democratic, what would? I agree that some of the people that have hung their hats on One Nation aren't very savory. But, then again, some of the people that have hung their hats with the LNP & Labor aren't very savory either. Banks, Chinese, CEMFU to name a few. Posted by Jayb, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 4:38:46 PM

Belly: I had totally trusted with guns, shot his wife Accident but if he could do that.
Yes, I had a mate like that too, when we went shooting we would exclude him because he was bloody dangerous. Regarding the Port Arthur Massacre. When it happened I was sceptical that one person could have done so much damage in that amount of time. I had not long returned from Vietnam, so I was familiar with what could be done with a weapon of that type. Having been in numerous Contacts with the VC & NVA I had doubts. If we had had a Platoon of good as that, the rest of the Battalion could have gone home & we would have won the entire War in a month with just that Platoon. This is not to take away from the grief of the people involved in the Massacre. This is purely a Tactical Observation from an experienced Ex-Soldier. I would like to see a rerun of the PAM scenario using: a Queens Shoot Holder, A random Section of Infantry Soldiers from any Battalion & some random guy of the street that has used a rifle at some time. Set up the Buildings & Dummy's of all the people in the area at the time of the shooting & see if any of these people can replicate the same hits in the same amount of time as happened at the PAM. It could be easily set up at the Urban Warfare School at High Range near Townsville. Personally, I don't think it could be done. Remembering that he was not all that familiar with the weapons that were used or a particularly good shot, according to the Reports. Cont Posted by Jayb, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 4:42:29 PM

Now, I support the removal of weapons from the General public for the same reason Belly gave. There are people out there who are demanding Guns that I wouldn't allow to handle a plastic knife, fork & spoon. Apart from that, still having weapons generally available to all & sundry would be fraught with danger considering the introduction of Middle Eastern People into Australia recently. We are all worried about Terrorists now, think about them able to be legally armed to the teeth. Then Radical Right Wing Idiots retaliating. Then the Radical Left Wing Idiots supporting the Islamic Terrorists. Then the Rest of the Population taking sides. A Civil War in the making, right there. However those that did not die would have identified him ? Re moslems, here is an interesting opinion of the left supporters of the Islamic people. It makes interesting listening. http://tinyurl.com/y384g6nl There does appear to be a number of revisionist Islamic organisations. Most in the Middle East have been "eliminated". I support Borsak to the hilt, and what he says is spot on, except that what One Nation did was not an offence at law, at the time. Al Jazeera's setting up of One Nation should ring warning bells, who is next? When all the dust settles we may well find out that the ABC had a hand in the conspiracy from the start. Hi there JAYB...
One does wonder what an experienced rifleman with an AR-15 on full rock 'n roll could do, in a scenario similar to the Port Arthur massacre. However, it's my understanding if one wishes to obtain a F/A license they need to undertake an approved course of instruction. At least it's another hurdle the applicant needs to deal with before he's issued the permit. Is it sufficient, I don't know, though probably not. From purely a policeman's perspective, I don't think you'll ever be able to interdict these mass killings if the perpetrator has the will and the means. You'll note I say 'killings,' not shootings. You could remove every gun in 'Christendom', and some boof-head will find a way to kill dozens of innocent people, such is the deviousness of the human heart. Posted by o sung wu, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 7:07:34 PM
| |
Ok, I have just read the full report on the PAM. Just about everybody was shot inside 2 meters, mostly head shots. Anything outside that people were wounded & shot at close range later. So yes, I do believe he could have completed the task without much trouble. He uses an AR-10 & AR 15 Carbine from the hip or under the shoulder. The were Self Loading Rifles not automatics. 34 Killed & 19 Wounded inside an hour. 22 people in the first 10 minutes. Yes, it would be possible even with an IQ of 66.
I believe that any person who want to own a weapon of any description must sit a specific exam, show that they have sufficient training in Safety & weapon handling. & have at least an IQ of 120 or more. All weapons must be kept in a secure Armory under Police Supervision. Not Rent-a-cop. The weapon must be signed in & out stating for what & where the weapon is being used. If it for hunting it must be accompanied by a letter from the owner of the property giving the person permission to hunt on their property. Posted by Jayb, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 9:39:38 PM

jayb while I am often on your side a truth needs air here
Hundreds of thousands, of gun owners will never even think of shooting a human being Midnight trips to a paddock to shoot a downed and dying cow Killing wild dogs or Dingos mauling sheep, Foxes an introduced beast that is more harm that it was worth as Fox Hunters bought it here for Feral cats, the killers of millions of native birds every single year Yes lunatics murder with guns, knives too, increasingly so Do we outlaw knives, limit them What are we to do about home invasions? you can bet the offenders will be armed, is it wrong to kill in defense of your family? Guns should be controlled but must exist because we do, some of us, need them Posted by Belly, Wednesday, 3 April 2019 4:40:40 AM

Belly: Guns should be controlled but must exist because we do, some of us, need them.
I have no problem with that. Farmers & Stations, Away from Cities & Towns. Yep Fair enough. Guns locked in Gun Safes. No problem. In Cities & Towns, lock them in a Central Armory in a Police Facility. There is no need to have guns inside a City or Town limit. Security & Police excepted. My other problem with open gun ownership is the ease & availability to moslim terrorists. We already know about the moslim Terrorist Training Camps that have been discovered in Northern NSW & in North West Victoria. They have already said they want an Army to enforce their Great Southern Caliphate. There's plenty of Video & Media evidence for that. Yes I understand that it's only a Radical few, for now. When push comes to shove, ordinary (moderate) moslims will be obligated to join them, or face the consequences. Such is their Religious obligation. Restricting firearms will, hopefully, slow down the Terrorist agenda. Al Jazeera is part of, "making of the Islamic World ." So yes it was a set-up with the help of the ABC, GetUp, & the Left to get anyone who stands in the way of achieving their Aim of an Islamic World. By the way that Video, http://tinyurl.com/y384g6nl, explains it all perfectly. Posted by Jayb, Wednesday, 3 April 2019 8:51:09 AM

Jayb,
"Restricting firearms will, hopefully, slow down the Terrorist agenda" Then they'll make their own or import them. What're you going to do? Ban all lathes, drills and milling machines? Hacksaws and files? Muslims are the world leaders in making firearms at home. "A Khyber Pass copy is a firearm manufactured by cottage gunsmiths in the Khyber Pass region between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The area has long had a reputation for producing unlicensed copies of firearms using whatever materials are available; more often than not, railway rails, scrap motor vehicles, and other scrap metal with basic hand tools [1]. The quality of such firearms varies widely, ranging from as good as a factory-produced example to dangerously poor." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khyber_Pass_copy In my collection is a Mau-mau gun, made from a piece of seamless steel tube, it has no moving parts, as the firing mechanism was wood and Customs took it off as there were some worm holes in it, the spring was a rubber band and the means of ignition were children's cap gun caps. It is still fireable using a cigarette . The rere of the barrel was sealed by the simple expedient of heating the tube and bashing it closed where it was bent to form the stock. Terrorists don't need guns anyway, explosives are very effective, would you ban fertilizer coal and diesel? Petrol? Posted by Is Mise, Wednesday, 3 April 2019 9:37:18 AM

You call IS MISE, (a Korean War veteran, and an individual who's worked with guns for the Defence Dept) a 'clown'? Saying he's wrong when he asserts in part; '...Muslims are world leaders when it comes to fashioning weapons at home...'. I'm here to tell you Steele old friend, the Muslim's locked up in Sydney's Long Bay Gaol, turn out more illicit weaponry enough to start a veritable war, and put out of business, the SAF in Lithgow.! Dear o sung wu,
You ask; “Are you suggesting even for a minute, I'm a 'right wing' extremist, essentially because I support shooters rights?” I'm not sure how you have arrived to the point where you felt this was reasonable suggestion. I was clearly talking about the clowns geeing each other up about a perceived Muslim threat when the topic was about One Nation looking to solicit bribes from a foreign organisation to weaken laws protecting Australians from the type of tragedy which occurred in NZ. They should be expected to get called out on it and I did just that. If you felt the need to engage in fear-mongering about Muslims then yes I would have included you. But you hadn't. However if you feel you can illustrate why you thought this was about purely shooters rights you have the floor. Posted by SteeleRedux, Wednesday, 3 April 2019 11:39:21 AM

Hi there STEELEREDUX...
C'mon stop with all the semantics, I believe you meant anyone who supported the general availability of firearms, as a clown. Whenever the very mention of a gun is used, you immediately start berating others concerning shooters rights. As I said, I don't have a gun, but I do support the general shooting fraternity if that is a sport they wish to follow. Interestingly, most countries field a team in the Olympic games, in many of the shooting competitions, so it's not as if the sport is in any way diminishing. I do agree, we're completely off Topic here, so can we leave the gun debate where it is for a moment, and return to the Al Jazeera Conspiracy? Posted by o sung wu, Wednesday, 3 April 2019 4:43:11 PM

Dear o sung wu,
Here is what I actually said; “Mate you clowns just can't give the fearmongering a break can you. 50 people lay dead from a right-wing extremist inspired by the kind of language you two are rabbiting on with and here you are ratcheting it up again saying things like “Muslims are the world leaders in making firearms at home.”” And I gave you the chance to argue your case. You decided to come back with; “C'mon stop with all the semantics, I believe you meant anyone who supported the general availability of firearms, as a clown.” Now I get that as you have often stated you feel obliged to defend Is Mise. But I feel you could have extended yourself just a little bit rather than a rather insipid “I believe you meant” without offering any justification for holding the aforementioned view. If you feel the need to exchange a couple of jabs I'm up for it. But perhaps look for some solid footing first. I'm sure Is Mise won't mind, after all it is his topic. Steelie: I'm not sure how you have arrived to the point where you felt this was reasonable suggestion. I would suggest, that anyone you consider not to be Left Wing Socialist/Marxist, is a Right Wing Extremist. Isn't that right. Is Mise: Why except Security and Police, why do they need a gun? To shoot moslim Terrorists & armed Drugies. Steelie: "geeing each other up about a perceived Muslim threat. Are you saying that there is no moslim threat? There was no danger from moslims 25 years ago. There is now. Strange that. OSW: I do support the general shooting fraternity if that is a sport they wish to follow. As I. As Al Jazerra is a moslim owned & controlled Media that supports the conversion of the World to Islam, anyone who even looks like slowing up their agenda is attacked with the help of Left Wing Extremists friends, as shown by the http://tinyurl.com/y384g6nl Video. &, of course, the support of people like Steelie. Hi there BELLY...
It doesn't necessarily follow if someone's a TRUMP supporter, he's a devotee of guns and gun ownership? Neither one cancels out the other. It's possible for an individual to like TRUMP, but utterly abhor everything to do with Guns. Some women in our small group will attest to that, they like Donald TRUMP, several of them describing him as a breath of fresh air in the Whitehouse. Back to the Topic, however - there' is no doubt in my mind, we should not trust anything that comes from Al Jazeera, as they are considered nothing more than a media organ, for many Muslim fundamentalists. I certainly can't claim any specific knowledge of them, other than what I've heard from other leading electronic journalists, based here in Australia. If I'm wrong, then let it be proved? Belly,
"Such as AL Jazeera,s story What they uncovered not how it was done matters" There we differ, what they "uncovered" was what they manufactured and it amounts to very little and was legal. Anyone listening to the tapes can spot the resultant media lies as they went into a frenzy over a couple of self delusional twits. What Al Jazeera did and is, no doubt, doing is what matters. In a Court of Law, any Magistrate would consider Al Jazeera's evidence inadmissible because of the way it was collected. We can all argue about the way this was done
until the cows come home. However the facts are - this was not a "stich up"for One Nation. This particular investigation by Al Jazeera - was set up more than 3 years ago and it was aimed at the NRA not One Nation. One Nation was not the target. They got caught up at the tail-end of this. Also nobody forced them to fly to the US - to pay for their own tickets, et cetera. They were there after the money - and were prepared to promise anything to get it. It showed people what they were really prepared to do - to get what they wanted. They were caught out with their pants down - and are now trying to deny it all and blame others for their own actions. Unbelievable. They were caught on tape for all to see. Blaming anyone else for their own major stuff-up simply does not wash. You'd have to have a soft brain - to buy what they're selling. And anyone who buys what someone like Ashby says - Gaaaawd! Posted by Foxy, Thursday, 4 April 2019 9:39:10 AM

It would seem the majority of people on this thread crying foul over ON getting caught with their pants down would want Sam Dastyari reinstated to the front bench immediately.

Some seem to get the sequence of events mixed.
It was the Koch Bros representatives with whom they talked money. They even said that there were legal problems so why the hell were they even talking to them. I think from my memory of what was said that the AlJaz character offered to take them to the US to meet money & gun people. Anyone switched on in politics should have been enough awake to ask themselves; "Why do they want to do this ?". Anyone that dumb should not be in politics. Beware crocodiles. Hi there BELLY & a good afternoon to you too...
Donald TRUMP has never been a public speaker of note, ever since we saw his ascendency to power. He stumbles and hesitates over just about all of his speeches, even his formal Whitehouse addresses. It doesn't prove that his brain & his thinking isn't still sharp. Some people are gifted at public speaking, eg, Sir Robert MENZIES. While others have altogether different styles of public speaking; but nonetheless, both equally effective at getting their message across. Like Messrs Robert HAWKE & Paul KEATING. A good speaker doesn't necessarily make for a great leader. One, the population in toto, feels confident in their brand of leadership. You know, '...all talk and no action...'? I realise you have a somewhat jaundiced view of the media, and that's most understandable, as do I. But when it comes to this Muslim controlled outfit, Al Jazeera, I urge caution? Anything they might release purporting as being accurate newsworthy material, I'd 'triple' check, from other more credible sources, before relying on its integrity. Thanks, BELLY ol' mate. G'day there JAYB...
You're quite correct when you assert no member of the judiciary would have any truck whatsoever, with the material Al Jazeera allegedly claimed they gathered as evidence of conspiracy, impropriety, or plain old inebriated trash talk. Speaking of illegality that may've transpired in this matter - I'm of the view, Al Jazeera should have a strong glass placed over their own activities, ever since we've had these incidences, of Islamic fundamentalism taking place. What's it been now, forty-odd years since it became apparent? One might be surprised at how much 'stirring' by 'AJ' has occurred, in the intervening period? Evidence that's capable of being admitted in a Court of Law must follow a precise procedure, & gathered in a conventional structure and strategy, that the Court recognizes. There have been more bulky tomes written on the topic of 'Evidence,' ('Cross & others, to be more precise), than perhaps anything else, in our standard of jurisprudence. Dear o sung wu,
Interesting opinion and one I thought would be good to investigate. It appears outside of its occasional inflammatory editorials Al Jazeera is regarded as a pretty straight shooter. In one of the few times when the charge of bias was directed at them they were completely cleared. “In 2017, Al Jazeera aired an investigative report of Britain’s Israel lobby and following the airing, Ofcom (UK government-approved regulatory and competition authority) received complaints from a number of pro-Israeli British activists, that included one former Israeli embassy employee. They were accused of anti-Semitism, bias, unfair editing and infringement of privacy, which was later cleared by Ofcom, who said the piece was not anti-semitic and was in fact investigative journalism. Later, a US version of the documentary called “Lobby” was not aired, due to pressure from US Legislators pushing for Al Jazeera to register as a foreign entity, and therefore labeling its journalists as ‘spies’. Further, Saudi Arabia and three other Arab nations demanded Qatar to shut down Al-Jazeera.” http://mediabiasfactcheck.com/al-jazeera/ You will note that at the time three other Arab nations were calling for Al Jazeera to be shut down. I think the old adage that when you are pissing off both sides you must be doing something right applies. I would certainly put them above Fox News in the trustworthy stakes. Of course if you have evidence to the contrary I would be happy to see it. Posted by SteeleRedux, Thursday, 4 April 2019 1:19:14 PM

I've stated earlier - how credible is any news
channel? To some degree, governments and powerful lobbies can influence any news source and most likely do. I've watched AJ, BBC, CNN, FOX News, et al, extensively and can't really say that AJ is less credible than any of the others. Posted by Foxy, Thursday, 4 April 2019 1:51:15 PM

Belly: Efforts to take the spotlight away from one nations blunder is just that, an effort in hiding the truth.
Let's face it Belly. their discussion was just that, a discussion on where they might raise funds. The Al Jezerra Journalist led them into an ambush with suggestive talk of the NRA just might be supportive & they walked into it. It took three years of grooming. Setting up an ambush is slow & painstaking work, with lots of practice on how it would go down. Yes they walked into the Ambush. That was the whole idea of the setup. One Nations discussion of what "Might be" was not illegal. I should imagine your favourite Party has those discussions with the CEMFU all the time. Trying to find ways of disguising where their Funds were obtained. I have no doubt the LNP do exactly the same with Big Business. According to you, & a few others here, no-one else is allowed to do the same lest it lessens your favorite Party's chances in a coming Election. Any New Laws pertaining to Funds disclosure would be made riddled with Loop Holes & agreed to by the ALP & LNP to protect their own interests. Why is it OK for them but not for any other Party? Your Party Preference & Hate of any other Party, especially Minor Party's sticks out like a sore thumb. Socialists are like that. We have some great examples of how Socialists treat people once in Power, don't we. Cuba, Argentina, Venezuela just to name a few. Once in Power should the ALP with say a good Majority take all their dissenters for a plane ride out over the Ditch? Posted by Jayb, Thursday, 4 April 2019 3:09:19 PM

Hi (again) JAYB...
It would appear to me; Al Jazeera doesn't so much report the news; instead, they like to make or manufactory the news! G'day STEELEREDUX... There's an often used expression that these news 'hacks' very much like to employ? 'Investigative Journalism.' It's almost a badge of honour, a step closer to a 'Walkley Award' if you like. To wear the exalted mantel of an 'Investigative Journalist,' whatever that may be? I was a copper for over 32 years as well as a trained Detective. They (the Commissioner & his cohorts) do not confer upon you, the appellation of 'Detective or Investigator' Unless you've successfully passed all the necessary examinations associated with that designation. Much of the course (from memory) is establishing evidentiary matters & processes, in order, the evidence is acceptable to a Court. So careful must the police be after the Case Officer has assembled the final Brief of Evidence, it goes to the Criminal Brief Adjudication Branch to be carefully examined by an experienced police officer of at least sergeant rank. He ensures all the criminal 'Proof's' have been covered, and all Statements are in order. Thereafter, it goes to the DPP. We have these so-called, Investigative Journalists, asking us to take their account(s) seriously when often a Court wouldn't allow them even through the front door. Utterly amazing! Posted by o sung wu, Thursday, 4 April 2019 4:33:28 PM

Dear o sung wu,
I can only concur. However you seem to be missing a salient point, journos are not coppers, and their court is the one of public opinion. A Christian minister who is vehemently anti-gay at the pulpit can go off and secretly solicit young men in a night club and remain perfectly within the law. It would not be the job of the police to expose the hypocrisy but one might argue it is the role of the fourth estate. There are protections in place and they are called defamation laws. If One Nation or any of the individuals involved feel they have been egregiously misrepresented then they can start proceedings. No sign of that as yet so I suspect Al Jeezera were pretty well on the money. Posted by SteeleRedux, Thursday, 4 April 2019 5:14:19 PM

For me it is clearly in the public interest when
a publicly-funded Australian political party that knows what it is doing is dodgy is making connections to "change Australia" by gaining the balance of power in the parliament and "working hand in glove" with a despicable organisation in the US - the NRA. One Nation's behaviour could only be exposed through this kind of reportage. The public needs to know what One Nation was doing. No ifs or buts. James Ashby is captured repeatedly reminding others they need to be secretive in their dealing with the NRA. The Australian public has a clear right to know what One Nation is up to. Derryn Hinch has stated: "Pauline Hansons'One Nation's attempt to get $10 - 20 million from the despicable US NRA to help them water down our gun laws is obscene. Also the boast of the $'s could change the voting system and have the whole government by the balls. Please explain." Saying it was all a "stitch up" is simply just not good enough. Foxy: and "working hand in glove" with a despicable organisation in the US - the NRA.
That's exactly not right, & you know it. A bridge too far. Would you like for me to infer that you are a fully fledged Islamic Terrorist just because you show support for them at times. Foxy: Also the boast of the $'s could change the voting system and have the whole government by the balls. Please explain." To me that sounds like a great idea. Maybe, just maybe somethings might actually happen instead of just having rhetoric & promises. Now I think that would be great. I just love it when a Treasurer, any Treasurer, says, "& 20 Billion to xxxxx over the next 10 years." 2 Billion a year. That's 6 Budgets three & a bit Elections. What sound good are the words $20 Billion. It's all BS, Smoke & Mirrors by both the LNP & the ALP & they know it. The General Public are gullible enough to swallow that crap & the Political Party's know it. Posted by Jayb, Friday, 5 April 2019 12:55:56 PM

Hi there FOXY...
I was a bit surprised to hear your take on the journalistic abilities of Messrs Alan JONES, Andrew BOLT & ors. With respect, I would claim there's nothing pretentious about any of these right-wing commentators, other they're 'right wing,' as are Ms. SALES & Mr. CASSIDY, both of whom are in the employ of a very biased, left-wing ABC. An instance where the employee, must dance to the fiddler's tune. That aside, there's little doubt in my mind that Al Jazeera is the official organ for Islamic Fundamentalism, and anything they say or claim should be scrutinized, to establish it's integrity, before accepting it as being correct? The small group of folk that my Wife and I move in, none of them have ever claimed the ABC, as impartial, quite the contrary? Though most of us enjoy many of their presentations & doco's, their political 'stripes' are so overtly evident; it's almost comical. I realise, FOXY you're a devotee of the ABC, as am I. But not as far as sharing their political opinions. By the way, FOXY, this very Topic - 'Alleged Bias of the ABC,' or similar, brought me in touch for the 'first time' with our good friend STEELEREDUX. A distinct pleasure I've enjoyed ever since! Unless I misunderstood your last sentence JAYB; POIROT is a very well educated lady, who used to grace 'The Forum,' with her intelligent commentary & sharpish wit. Sadly we no longer hear from her now, which is a great pity in my view, and a tremendous loss too OLO. Whereas, we're lucky to still have you FOXY, who is more than equal to the task, as it were - both intellectually and with your formidably 'cutting wit,' if and when deserved! Belly: You are aware Labor gets more first preference votes than any other party.
All I can say is Thank God for Preferential Voting, where who ever you vote for, If your first preference is eliminated, then your second choice is counted. Which I think is fair enough. That's why I put this up on Facebook. Posted by Jayb, Saturday, 6 April 2019 11:22:26 AM

OSW: POIROT is a very well educated lady,
Oh, now I remember. My apologies Poirot for the Gender change. Although, I don't think you'd mind, remembering you stance on such matters. Still, remembering her Posts & support for Islam. Maybe she is in Syria in one of those containment Camps for ISIS & can't get home. Which I don't really have a problem with any Australian over there ever getting home. Hi (again) FOXY...
I hope I haven't offended you in some way. If I have, I had no intention to do so. Anyway, I apologize anyway, just in case. Posted by o sung wu, Saturday, 6 April 2019 11:44:52 AM

Dear o sung wu,
I am glad you have enjoyed our spirited exchanges, they have given me a welcome relief from replying to the increasingly monotonous one liners that often dribble out of the keyboards of some of the patrons here. But I will caution you against including Alan Jones in the ranks of our fourth estate. He has no qualifications that would enable him to be granted such inclusion. Bolt at least has a journalistic background although he now considers himself a blogger, commentator and entertainer. Sales has a degree in Journalism among other qualifications and Cassidy has a thorough journalistic pedigree working his way up from cadetship. Dear O Sung Wu,
No, you haven't offended me at all. I always read and enjoy your posts. I value and respect your opinions. You can be sure that I will continue to do so. You're a lovely man with a great big heart who on more than one occasion has made me re-think my views. So, Thank You. And may you keep on posting for a very long time. The forum needs people like you. Jayb., A small correction. Poirot (and myself), have never supported terrorists, extremists, fundamentalists of any description. We have always been strongly opposed to terrorism and violence in any form. Therefore your attempted slur of Poirot when she's not here to defend herself is cheap, lame, and beyond contempt. I expected more from you. Posted by Foxy, Saturday, 6 April 2019 1:04:08 PM

o sung wo I too miss that poster, she had class, did not always agree with me but that is how it should be
Found and lost again, a link to former investigative journalists uncovering one from my side, wonder if that would be branded bad journalism? All in all conservatives outside Queensland, should vote Liberal, not as in Queensland help my party by reducing the conservative vote Posted by Belly, Saturday, 6 April 2019 3:37:10 PM

Foxy: Therefore your attempted slur of Poirot when she's not here to defend herself is cheap, lame, and beyond contempt.
I just wondered why she hasn't put her two bits in as she is a full time defender of anything Islamic, like Aljazeera & we all know she dislikes Pauline & anything to do with her with even more passion than Belly. That's all. Steelie: Bolt at least has a journalistic background although he now considers himself a blogger, commentator and entertainer. What journalists write is just their opinion, but curried with-in the confines of the Organization for whom they work. Really, their opinion is no better or worse than yours or mine. Weather you agree with a particular Journalist depends of your own particular Belief. If he went to work for another Organization with the opposite flavour of Politics his opinion would change towards that Organizations Flavour of Belief. As regards Barry Jones. We don't get him on Brisbane Radio & I haven't listened to the Radio in 30 years. So I wouldn't know. I do know that like Darrin Hynch he does cause some controversy, but that's what he is paid to do & he's apparently good at it. Weather you agree or disagree with him depends on your own Point of View. Ay. By the way just because someone doesn't have a Degree from some crap University doesn't make their Opinion any less valid than yours or mine. It's his job to stir the Pot. That's why they are so highly paid. Posted by Jayb, Saturday, 6 April 2019 4:46:44 PM

Jayb.,
Why would you expect Poirot to write anything on the forum? She left the forum in late July 2016 and has not posted since. The assumptions you are making about her are wrong. I don't think that Pauline Hanson was ever of any interest to Poirot. As for journalists and the ABC? You can Google the qualifications that these people need to even earn a cadetship. There's no comparison between the journalistic staff of the ABC and personalities like Andrew Bolt, or Alan Jones. Comparing them is simply not fair. Posted by Foxy, Saturday, 6 April 2019 5:41:08 PM

I didn't Steelie did. I replied to her. Steelie: <But I will caution you against including Alan Jones in the ranks of our fourth estate. You can Google the qualifications that these people need to even earn. What they do in the Journalism Course at Uni. is to teach the person how to word their articles for the Organizations Market. As explained in the Pamphlet "Journalism for Beginners" by Hestia Quinn (77) Selecting a Market. Each Organization will chose it's own Style, but adapt it, or slant it to suit it's readers. Now-a-days the Courses are slanted towards Left Wing Political Reporting. If you were doing the Course now-a-days & put a Right Wing Slant on any article you would be failed & kicked off the Course. Ay. Posted by Jayb, Saturday, 6 April 2019 6:55:41 PM

Jayb.,
Steele is a male. As for what the ABC requires of its journalists you can Google for yourself - if you're interested. There's plenty on the web. Posted by Foxy, Saturday, 6 April 2019 7:23:55 PM

Jayb this is the forum, not the real world, your opinion or mine may not be mirrored in that real world
You drag a once poster, who very well may have left because of such things? out to enforce your views Tell me, yes I know Islamic fundamentalism is insane, do you think we can ever be Muslim free, by what method? Can this country ever return to a white Australia policy? how? Is there a chance we can continue to grow without migration/refugees at all Was a truth uncovered by AJ or must every thing you do not like be branded fake news Posted by Belly, Sunday, 7 April 2019 4:28:33 AM

Belly,
"Is there a chance we can continue to grow without migration/refugees at all[?]". Every chance, it's called breeding. You do remember how it's done? Posted by Is Mise, Sunday, 7 April 2019 10:11:39 AM

Is Mise,
Breeding won't solve the problem - only enhance it. This country needs a willingness for people to want to work. It needs workers. As well as talent and skills. Are there really enough locals with those traits? Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 7 April 2019 10:49:47 AM

Belly said;
Can this country ever return to a white Australia policy? how? Belly I am surprised that you are not aware of the latest "woke" ideas. The latest fad in the Unis is that blacks or others should have their own safe spaces in education and work and should not have to associate with, horror, white people. So as the woke people would like it we could have say Queensland for black people, WA for Asians, and perhaps we whites could have Victoria and NSW. Then we will all have our "safe spaces". Truley Belly the world has gone stark raving mad. Posted by Bazz, Sunday, 7 April 2019 11:43:47 AM

Bazz,
The latest "woke" phase is popular at the Universities in the US and the UK. Not in Australia. A recent incidence illustrates this when Univ students at the Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, NSW donned Ku KLux Klan and black-face outfits for a costume party. They ended up being forced to take courses on Indigenous History instead of being expelled. Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 7 April 2019 12:07:44 PM

Bazz no mate, the world has not gone stark raving mad, some people have
Consider this, could it be some power we do not even know about thinks we should be one world one people? Is there a chance we are an expresement, that in say two hundred years we will, because we have no other choice be just that And that by then it will work YES Integration was better than multiculturalism But who first said it must now be that, why Ever found a person from another race who you liked Would we be better if both sides gave a little ground and forgot the differences NZ stands head and shoulders above us in its great timeof need it stood proudly, wevmust too Posted by Belly, Sunday, 7 April 2019 12:18:33 PM

Hi there BELLY...
Indeed she was a very clever, articulate lady. Between FOXY & POIROT, they were both a formidable pair, intellectually, and tactically in many of their arguments. I really lament POIROT leaving The Forum, perhaps if she reads this small piece, she might consent to return, if we blokes can undertake to be on our best behaviour? Dear O Sung Wu,
Again Thanks for your kind words. However, lets not forget all of the other great lady posters. There's Cossomby, Big Nana, CHERFUL, Susie, and many others too numerous to list. They were great times. Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 7 April 2019 1:41:24 PM

Hi there JAYB...
I couldn't agree with you more, when you say, you don't have to possess a Degree from a University, to have a valid (& intelligent) opinion. Someone asserted 2GB's Alan Jones hadn't achieved a Journalist Degree. Does it matter? He does have a degree from Oxford, either a BA or B.Ed. If I'm not wrong? Whatever formal qualifications he has or not, Alan JONES is no one's fool. But you're right, we are all entitled to our own opinions, and whether we are endowed with a string of degrees, it means naught, without buckets of common-sense. For my penance, I spent several years in the police academy, as an Instructor. Bugger all overtime or penalty rates. We went through a recruiting phase, where the then Commissioner, wanted only graduates, especially those with a law, or accountancy degrees. You wouldn't believe how 'thick' some of these graduates were when attempting to construct a simple 'Brief of Evidence.' Many left out of their 'Brief's', such essential data that must be included in the vital 'Criminal Proofs,' that are utterly necessary to prosecute an accused successfully. Even some of the basic, 'Five Common Proofs,' were missed! Weren't these recruits supposed to be the 'cream of the crop,' with their law degrees, I certainly hoped not at the time, I can tell you? "Ever found a person from another race who you liked[?]". How about this; The Tasmanian Govt is to put to parliament a bill to make it legal for a man to have an abortion ! Is insanity a disqualification to be a member of parliament ? Posted by Bazz, Monday, 8 April 2019 10:37:36 PM

Bazz in another thread I TRY, not sure it is working, to say there is a center, a place both Liberals and Labor voters live in
Willing to bet that center shares your, and my, view the person putting that bill up is an idiot Feminism had my support Before it stopped being about equality and started to become total control May be a man who put it up hoping it was not one of my side, we do have our dills however Posted by Belly, Tuesday, 9 April 2019 7:05:30 AM

Does no one find it strangely coincidental that it trapped One Nation in time to influence preference deals for the forthcoming Federal Election?
