said in the past - I am not afraid to go out at
night. In fact I go out all the time. As for young
African refugees being a problem in Melbourne? Yes
there have been isolated incidents - just as there
have been in other cities but we do have crime under
control due to a very good government. We have more
police numbers patrolling the streets. We also have
more community involvement with young people. The
African community has become involved and is playing
a vital part towards solving problems of exclusion,
unemployment. Family involvement is crucial and very
helpful. Also sporting clubs are also options that
are working well - especially when they involve
mixed groups playing together.
Derogatory comments by politicians in the media do not
help. But perhaps with a state election being on the
horizon (November 24th) , some people have their own
political agendas to satisfy. However, Melbournian
voters are smarter than that. In fact voters everywhere
are smarter than that - as the Coalition will find out -
at the next federal election. The outmoded model of
attacking your opponents using fear-mongering, sloganeering,
and spin no longer works.
