The U.S and Hungary are the only two Western countries to refuse to sign it (non-Western countries wouldn’t be asked), and while Immigration Minister Dutton told Alan Jones that Australia would not sign it “in its present form”, Australia was part of the cabal that came up with this compact that would give ultimate control of our borders to the United Nations.
This week’s Spectator editorial describes this compact as putting Australia on the threshold of “another great betrayal to mirror the Paris Accord”.
The Spectator muses that Dutton could be replaced by a Turnbull acolyte, or, a future ALP government would sign up saying that they were just ratifying a Turnbull-era policy.
The work done by Abbott, Morrison and Dutton could be swept away as “carelessly” as were cheap energy prices - all in the name of the “we signed up to it, so we stick to it” attitude that they used to excuse the Paris Accord betrayal.
