Moaning Millennials

Nicholas Brown, apparently a millennial himself because he says “We were told by our parents that we could be anything we want” , reckons that they have been “sold a lie”. (The Spectator online 17/5) They were told that they were special. Fifteen percent of millennials suffer major depression he says, while people who went through two world wars and the Great Depression manage to be “comparatively” positive, while millennials, who don't have to worry about any of that, need 'trigger warnings’, receive recognition just for turning up, and losers receive greater “adulation” than the winner.

Nicholas blames our education system (don't we all?) where it's all about an “ugly child-centred system” prioritising comfort and ignoring resilience. Teachers are not respected, and they have no ability to discipline their charges. Kids are taught to be frightened of other people, and physical contact is verboten. Boys are treated “like girls with an attitude problem".

Sheltering this unfortunate generation from the “roles and structures” that have helped their forebears ‘see it through’ has made it difficult for millennials to find their way, thinks Nichols Brown. I admire his insight, particularly if he is 'one of them’, and I believe that there can never be any forgiveness for the social engineers who made millennials what they are.

Don't be silly ttbn, the whole program has been a complete success for the Womens libbers who designed it.

We now have more girls going to university, even if they are studying useless humanities bulldust.

They have nearly got to the stage where you require a degree to work in a child care centre, minding pre-schoolers, & you do need one to empty bed pans in a hospital.

Pity everyone now requires a calculator to make change for a 2 dollar bus ticket, bit that's progress for you.

Nah, I reckon it's the parents: don't let your kids eat dirt, don't give them a smack when they've earnt it, don't let them play outside... just plonk them in front of the most convenient screen, that should keep them content.

I clearly remember when all this nonsense started. Social "experts' all academic of course, telling us not to discipline our kids, same for school teachers. National Service was gotten rid of & brought a huge swing of votes to the Left.
Those of us who could forsee the outcome were of course shot down with ridicule just as is done with PC now.
Enterpreneurs were favoured to manufacturers, image became everything & greed was good.
No-one gave a thought of millennials inheriting the mess.
The feminists & the gays, all collaborating with the Left to demonise the Right. I wonder what Academia is dreaming up next whilst integrity-devoid bureaucrats keep giving them our tax dollars hence them digging in their heels against tax reform..

And not forgetting government funded drug testing labs, for the testing of illegal recreational drugs at music festivals.

That'd take the cake for the " stupid " award of the year.

Diver Dan,
If you or I had a need for an Ambulance & we had no cover, how much would we need to have to fork out ?
On the other hand drug abusers get immediate attention & no effort is spared by medicos et al but we never hear of them having private health insurance/cover.

Any drug abuser shoul be required to have a tag or a small tatoo that identifies them as being covered so that the first people on the scene can call an abulance if they're covered or the Police if they're not.
Drug abusers are not normal people & therefore should not be afforded privileges for normal, tax-paying, responsible citizens. They know the risks yet still take drugs so, there's no help for them nor should there be.
The bureaucracy we're discussing here is a major cause for all this irresponsible dysfunction.
