AC,

As yet, you don't have to go to trial for disagreeing:). Australia doesn't have a bill of rights, and we do not need one. My point on so-called rights is that they don't protect anyone before an event. Anyone can violate our imagined rights at any time. I have mentioned the 'right to life’ fantasy. Another one is the 'right’ to walk about anywhere, at any time, wearing very little, drunk or sober, as proclaimed by the the shriekers when an unfortunate, or foolish, girl or woman is raped.

For those who think the ADF should be involved in sorting out ratbags - bunkum! Soldering is serious business, not a substitute for parents or school. Our services have enough trouble now with senior officers seemingly more interested in getting ineffective females to join their ranks, with sex-changes for those already in, and with removing symbols of 'aggression’, for heaven's sake!

Hey ttbn,
My question "Do I have the right to a fair trial" was a question, but it wasn't really a question; it was a response to when you asked "Name a right we have..." but I'm not sure you got it.

As for 'Bill of Rights' there's probably arguments for and against, and the other things you said I have no objections.

I comprehend all too well Individual, that you have no idea of what the defence force is & does today, & probably no i9nterest either.

Every member has to be willing & capable, after basic training, of a "pier head jump", to be sent to war, a peace keeping mission, or a humanitarian relief mission at an hours notice.

In all these areas people get killed. Our people have to be able to 100% trust in the attitude, training & ability of the person beside them. They most definitely don't want stuff up people protecting their flank. You don't have to be a jet pilot to have other peoples lives in your hands.

You obviously believe most defence force people are merely targets, & their ability doesn't matter, & today nothing is further from the truth.

AC,

OK. I’ll try again. The law says that you are entitled to a fair trial - at the moment, and as long as we remain a 'rule of law’ country. That could change, so calling it a 'right’ is optimistic to say the least, given that our political class is taking less and less notice of what the electorate thinks. A mere 226 politicians in Canberra decide what we can and cannot have. Rights don't come into it.

Hasbeen,

Most people don't know much about anything these days.

Side note: did you spot any blokes in the latest TV recruitment ad for the RAN?

Hasbeen, surely it has to be clear enough by now that I'm not on about taking millennials off the street & expect them to be soldiers. As an ex military man you'd would agree that the masses of non-soldier personnel are not of the calibre that out-in-the-field people are. They are the ones I'm talking about. Basic service jobs back in the home country. goods delivery, cleaning, learning trades in workshops, anything to get them into an environment, away from the front steps of Centrelink offices. It doesn't all need to be just in the Defence Forces, it can be on farms, roads ,railwyas, local councils etc. The main issue here is to gradually instil a mentality that there's more to being a "Rights" claiming Citizen than just hanging around Centrelink. There are whole industries which should be required to absorb young people for 18 months or two years to get them away from the Welfare mentality. It won't cost as much as much as permanent Welfare both finacially & socially.
There are billions of cane Toads to be decimated, noxious weeds to be decimated, the list is long.EPA aren't doing it so give young people the opportunity to go out & experience being in the Bush. You'd be surprised how many hands would show if only being asked. It's not always about what's financially viable, it's about saving this nation from imploding because of apathy of the working class caused by the greedy. Stop thinking about today & living in yesterday. The Millennials aren't all hopeless but too many appear to be. Why ? Because the Baby Boomers & Gen Y are worse than the Millennials because they ruined it all.
Image & money is great but just look what happens when the menial task workforce stays home for day.
It's about caring not just brilliant show-off careers that do nothing for the Nation.
The Millennials have what it takes, we're just keeping the platform to ourselves & look where it has got us to.

"There are billions of cane Toads to be decimated"
Now come on mate I resent that, it's racist.
The cane toads are a perfectly good example of how 'integration' benefits us all.
Honestly, it's totally insensitive in this day and age.
How do you think the cane toads might feel about your racism and hate speech.
I just don't know where this country's headed anymore.

"It won't cost as much as much as permanent Welfare both finacially & socially."
I agree, and it's along the lines of what I've been trying to say for sometime.
There has to be a better way.
