Does anybody have experience with the seven year itch?

I've been married for 50 years. Being human, I had the itch a few times, but I never scratched it. I don't think that enough marriages last 7 years these days, so it probably doesn't apply any more.

I assume you're referring to the 'pon farr'. Don't worry, it only afflicts Vulcans. Also, it's fictional.

Actually Dan I think it is a disease suffered more by females, although they will never admit.

Their instincts tell them to get another set of genes or two, just in case her first pick was not much good for survival of hers in the offspring.

Hasbeen et al

*…Their instincts tell them to get another set of genes or two, just in case her first pick was not much good for survival of hers in the offspring…*

Interesting concept. Your right to a point. Life is all about reproduction and survival.
But there is a huge difference between the ability of sons and daughters to reproduce.
This is what Pinker says:

“…Although sons and daughters are expected to yield the same number of grandchildren on average, the “maximum” number that each sex can promise is different.
A super fit son, says Pinker, can outcompete other males, and impregnate any number of women, and thereby have any number of children: Whereas, a super fit daughter can have no more than the maximum she can bear and nurture in her reproductive career…”

So a woman's motive is to aim for quality in reproduction, whereas the focus of the male is to aim for quantity.

Societies influence in this natural phenomenon is to focus on stability of relationships, such as ttbn and his fifty years shacked up with the same chickybabe.

So now the seven year itch takes on a new meaning!

"So a woman's motive is to aim for quality in reproduction....".

For too many females, the aim is to be bosses and soldiers, and lord it over males, despite their inability to do either. It used to be that males got the itch, and left the nest; now the sisters are doing it with a vengeance. 'The future is female' as the T-shirts advertise. The future will be an awful mess.
