Why not make Friday a public holiday? Monday too?

Not all women are mothers
Not all men are fathers
Not all people can have kids.
And not everyone's Mums and Dads are around anymore.
Therefore, not everyone will see it as a celebration.

Why should you get a day off on Mothers day anyway Nathan?

I think we should just leave it how it is not being a public holiday, because it doesn't always apply to everyone
(though everyone had a mum at some point)
Maybe Mums and Dads themselves should be legally able to elect to take the day off work without pay to spend with their kids if they choose to...

And maybe people should also be able to elect to take the day off without pay on their birthdays as well, if they choose.
If you do go to work, the boss is expected to buy you a cake and shout you lunch.

Mother's Day is always on a Sunday in Australia when most people are already off work anyway...

I regard both family relations and religion as matters which should be no business of government. Holidays to do with family relations and religion should be the private business of those who choose to observe those holidays.

Mother's Day has always been celebrated on the
second Sunday in May as far as I can recall.
In Australia, we are indeed the Lucky Country.
We receive more public holidays than any one else.
We should count our blessings - and as David F.
pointed out - Mother's Day should be celebrated
privately. We don't need any more public holidays.

Doubtless a rainbow 'Two Dads' Day would be more in line with the 'Progressives' than a Mothers Day. -Mothers Day implying that mums are useful and necessary even for the healthy child. That is contested by the gay activists, and the ratbag radical feminists of course.

Heavens above, Mothers Day might even remind of the essential contributions of the family and the extended family that so many infants and young people miss out on. 'Progressives' sneer at what they despise and insult as 'traditional' family.

Hey, that family stuff is contrary to the ideology of the international socialists, whose idealism has the State raising children and not parents. Hence that Rainbow Sex Education in Victoria, where parents cannot be trusted to mold those young brains to accept the Marxist view as normal.

While I am not for all of those politically correct days that leftist 'Progressives' have foisted upon us, where public holidays are concerned it would be very hard indeed to mount a superior case for the outrageous political demonstration that is Labour Day, over giving the day instead in recognition of mothers and family.

The left are trying to associate the Labor Day march with ANZAC. However at the same time the leftists are bad-mouthing ANZAC. That requires considerable rewriting of history and heaps of leftist spin.

-The same sort of twisted ideology and Marxist spin that puts down motherhood and family, but tries to co-opt the gold stamp of marriage for those rainbow 'Two Dads'.
