I honestly tried to respond to your post. You obviously did not understand it but you claim to know what I think, know or don't know, better than I. Nevertheless, thanks for the links.

I agree with much of what you wrote and wish the problems were as straightforward as you paint them. Unfortunately, the world is more complicated than that, although you are right that there are Russian as well as American “oligarchs” riding the respective political systems, however very differently for different historical and cultural reasons.

Putin is not religious (neither was Constantine, who “legalised” Christianity, a Christian) but Christianity, albeit its Orthodox version, experienced under him a “resurrection” after 70+ years of Communist oppression. Some Western Christians appreciate this fact, some don’t.

Please let us leave it at that.

(By the way, the US and NATO are conducting military exercises in the Black Sea providing Putin with an after the fact “justification” for grabbing Crimea with Russia’s only military access to the Black Sea. How do you think America would react if China and Russia were to conduct military maneuvers in the Gulf of Mexico?)

The Gulf of Mexico is, for most of its extent, more or less American. The Black Sea is shared by many countries, and from memory of my old school atlas, Russia borders on it only slightly, and shares it with Turkey, Georgia (for the time being), Ukraine, Rumania, Moldova and Bulgaria.
