My deeeeeear worldwatcher,
".....this could be construed as just a virulent character assassination of a woman doing as good a job as a man could do in her position." So what? I'll own up to that...and I don't give a toss whether she's a woman or a man (so you can tuck your sexist angle back in your emergency debating pack)....I don't like "her" policies (straight from the LNP and the IPA) If you can't construe that she has Abbott and the entire cabinet by the short and curlies - so be it. Wherever Tones roams, she's there, in Parliament, at pressers. She doesn't leave his side for a moment. Even on official visits she's a few inches from him. Most leaders would at least bring their wives out for an airing once in a while, not Tones who has been accompanied every inch of this tour by Peta - his puppet master. http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/control-freak-peta-credlin--accused-of-pulling-coalition-strings-20131204-2yqte.html (So sorry for bringing the Treasurer into a political discussion - can't imagine what I was thinking.) Just a final word tonight, worldwatcher,
Your comment - "......how the heck did you manage to bring Joe Hockey into it as well?" Owing to the fact that you said this: "....Now Abbott has to try and balance the huge budget deficit this self serving pair left us, and is being castigated for trying to redress the deficit he inherited. This day of reckoning had to come, and of course we will feel the pain. After all it is our money they threw away, and somehow measures must be taken to try and bring us back into balance, and minimising the pain at the same time - a herculean task. Surely, anyone with any commonsense should realise we were given a very costly fool's paradise for too long." And then you wonder why I would include Hockey in my argument - he is the Treasurer and architect of the govt's forthcoming budget. Care to explain why this govt has bolstered the deficit by a whopping $68 billion since last September - nearly doubling Labor's average for a similar period. Seems a strange thing to do if the situation is as dire as Eleventy Joe would have you believe - do you consider him fiscally irresponsible under the circumstances Posted by Poirot, Friday, 11 April 2014 10:34:48 PM

‘morning Poirot,
You said << Australia has the dubious honor of having the fastest budget deterioration of 29 advanced economies tracked by the IMF, according to the AFR this morning. >> You forgot to mention that this IMF assessment is based on Wayne Swans last MYEFO delivered by Joe Hockey on Tuesday, December 7th, 2013. It may well be the case that Joe is leaving Wayne Swan’s forecast on the table to slam dunk the difference in the ALP and LNP budget when it is announced. But that’s just politics and it seems you have missed the significance of it. Perhaps if you cut back on the AFR, Crikey, ABC and The Guardian you might just get an inkling of what is actually going on because the AFR certainly hasn’t spotted it? I guess we will know on budget night just who allowed their political judgment to be clouded by their own vilification? There is a certain joy in not interrupting the enemy whilst they are making mistakes. Posted by spindoc, Saturday, 12 April 2014 8:48:42 AM

‘morning Producer,
My apologies for my omission and thanks for highlighting it. You said << I fully understand you would find abhorrent the concept of the great unwashed being granted their fair share of democratic rights >>. Your persecution complex relating to being “denied your democratic rights” is naturally distressing however, it is no excuse for being not washing. Perhaps if you stopped insisting that under arm deodorant is an optional extra, you might meet some nice people. Phew! Posted by spindoc, Saturday, 12 April 2014 9:04:36 AM

spindoc,
"You forgot to mention that this IMF assessment is based on Wayne Swans last MYEFO delivered by Joe Hockey on Tuesday, December 7th, 2013." Sorry to pop your bubble on that one, but MYEFO delivered by Hockey was an exercise in him cooking the books. http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-national/hockey-is-cooking-the-books-bowen-20140326-35h3a.html "Mr Bowen has now released analysis from the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO), which he says shows the governments inflated debt and deficit projections in its mid-year economic and fiscal outlook (MYEFO)." Here's the good bit: "The PBO forecast 2023/24 net debt to be $260 billion less than the $370 billion estimated in the MYEFO released by the government in November. The PBO also project the budget would be in surplus by $34 billion by 2023/24, compared to the $12 billion deficit forecast in the government's fiscal outlook." I understand that you believe Hockey is man of integrity and only writes fairy stories for a hobby....I think, however, that it won't be long before you realise his true potential for theatrical deception. (good luck with that) Meanwhile, while we're on the subject of leaders on the nose, could you righties stop that silly little man, Abbott, from grandstanding on MH370 - he's now making comments which subseqeuntly have to be corrected by Houston. http://www.theage.com.au/national/tony-abbott-very-confident-signals-are-from-mh370-black-boxes-20140411-36hi4.html And could you also get some comfort out there to all those pensioners who voted for Abbott without realising they were about to be taken to the cleaners. http://www.theage.com.au/national/tony-abbott-accused-of-breaking-promise-on-pension-age-20140411-36im7.html Posted by Poirot, Saturday, 12 April 2014 9:14:28 AM

Is this a group effort? Is this “On Line Spin”?
“Snot” I think not but “Pathogen” maybe. For some reason I seem to have got up your nose.
Worldwatcher – 45.55%, is 45.55%, is 45.55%, is a minority no matter how you spin it. You might like to do a hypothetical analysis on how low it would have been if voters had a credible alternative.
The reality is the Rabbott government is a minority government with majority power that disenfranchises a significant percentage of the Australian electorate.
We better be a bit careful as I think there is a risk of getting a BTT from OTB.
