I keep asking this question but no one seems to have an answer.

Q. What caused the last ice age, because man didn't?

I am the first to agree that our burning of fossil fuels must cause some harm, however, in the past twenty odd years we hear in Oz have moved mountains in the form of environmental awareness and changing our ways.

Our industries are much cleaner. Our waterways don't see half the pollution they used to, this is despite the increase in industry and population of this period.

We have seen cleaner burring cars on our roads, introduced laws controlling land clearing.

How have we been rewarded, a big fat TAX, much of which goes to the coffers of the likes of the UN to feather their nests no doubt, or to fund some bottomless pit, aimed at curing the incurable such as third world population explosions, in that they say food, water and shelter is the answer, whereas birth control is where the real answer lies.

Barnaby Joyce made a very accurate comment a couple of years ago while on Q&A, he said, and I quote, "you know if you keep paying people to do research they will keep researching, don't you" end quote.

Never a truer word spoken.

It is typical of this country to punish people even when they make an effort to do the right thing, from environmental issues, through to paying taxes.

You do the right thing, yet you still get punished.

It's time we rethought our ways I think.

Hi rehctub,

Like most people I would have no problem with the proposition that humans can, and even may already have impacted on the climate. This proposition always ends with, OK so now measure it.

This is where the alarmism has failed them, not the proposition but the measuring. The IPCC and their supporters have offered projections and forecasts, they failed to eventuate as did polar bears etc. They ended up doing more harm to their own cause.

It is worth watching only two domains. The first is the extremes the alarmists will go to in order to maintain their alarms. The AAE, as the subject of this thread, is an excellent and ongoing example of the contortions they are now putting themselves through.

The second it to watch the antics of those once committed to CAGW as they try to extricate themselves. The British PM recently issued 176 Fracking licenses, subject to EPA approvals. He then wrote to the EU to ask that no new anti-Fracking legislation would be imposed by the EU. Given the recent EU position on Fracking, the expectation was that they would tell Cameron to sod off! Instead they met his request? Cameron has already flagged the removal of “green taxes”. Now the EU has “ordered” the UK to end wind farm and solar subsidies.
The Daily Telegraph, 3 January 2014

The last bastion of CAGW is now Euro-centric. No Kyoto to sign up for binding targets, no emission trading markets and a bankrupt global “Renewable Energy Industry”.

The main reasons for these developments seems to be that the EU see’s the catastrophic CAGW response costs (800 bn Euros in eight years) as a threat to EU unity and is prepared to act contrary to even the UN’s wishes.

The UKIP has gained strong public support for the EU parliament an looks set to gain a majority. The POMS don’t want a UKIP in the UK but they sure as hell see a chance to “go upstairs” to the third umpire.

CAGW was begat by politics and this is where it will crumble

Sun 'flips upside down'
while reversing magnetic poles

Moscow (Voice of Russia) Jan 01, 2014

The sun has undergone a "complete field reversal," with its north and south poles changing places as it marks the midpoint of Solar Cycle 24.

"A reversal of the sun's magnetic field is, literally, a big event," NASA's Dr. Tony Phillips said in a statement issued on the space agency's website.

"The sun's polar magnetic fields weaken, go to zero and then emerge again with the opposite polarity. This is a regular part of the solar cycle," Stanford solar physicist Phil Scherrer explained.

While it may seem like the event could have catastrophic repercussions..

Both the aurora borealis and its southern counterpart - the australis - are set to become broader, more frequent, and more visible now that the event has reached its final stage.

The process has been slow and steady, with solar physicist Todd Hoeksama telling Metro: "It's kind of like a tide coming in or going out. Each little wave brings a little more water in, and eventually you get to the full reversal."

Scherrer explained earlier in December that "the sun's north pole has already changed sign, while the South Pole is racing to catch up."

The impact of the process has been extremely far-reaching.

NASA has released a visualization of how the switch occurs. Beginning in 1997 and ending in 2013, it shows the green (positive) polarity switching with the purple (negative) polarity.

Solar Cycle 24 has been viewed as quite unpredictable. First, it came late by about a year, with extremely low activity recorded throughout 2009. This prompted astronomers to shift a predicted 2012 peak to 2013. Scientists say the cycle is already among the weakest reported and if the trend continues, the Earth might see another Little Ice Age.

of course the greenies say..now..the earths poles shift
is caused by warming..

anyhow..earths pole too will shift shortly

from the greenie link
Computer simulations have suggested that as glaciers and ice sheets melt, the distribution of mass on the Earth’s surface changes, in turn cause the Earth’s axis to shift and the positions of the poles to shift.

This process is nothing new. However, scientists found that in 2005, the North Poles drift altered abruptly. The pole changed from its southwards course and began moving eastwards, by about 1.2 metres in the last eight years.

Researchers from the University of Texas used data collected by a specialised NASA satellite to discover that the redistribution of mass caused by changing sea levels, due to the melting of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, correlated perfectly with the pole’s change in course.

“Ice melting and sea level change can explain 90% of the [eastward shift]“, says Jianli Chen, senior research scientist at the University of Texas.

anyhow...till the ice melts..we have bought some more time
[thank you ana]

lol ice free could be decades away..[now]
